This book is evil, even as a 4 year old kid I was like "... So if you dare to get mad at someone who's so envious of your looks that they ask if they can have A RIPPED OFF PIECE OF YOUR SKIN you're a bad person who deserves to be shunned until you rip of all your skin and give it to people???" it's like 'harrison bergereon' for kids except if the author wanted you to sympathise with the government from that book instead of harrison???
actually within the world of this story you can give away your scales easily so they are more like material possessions. the rainbow fish is rich and made that his whole personality and didnt want to share so the book is cool i think

I was walking down the street when to my surprise, a small feeble child approached me and said with all of the power in its weak little lungs, “H- hello! I quite like the color of your hair.” In response to this brittle, malleable being, “Oh why thank you young one. Here you go, this should last you a few moments.” As I ripped out a lock of my hair from the back of my head and shoved it down the child’s throat, screams of what I could only guess was joy and excitement let out from its esophagus. Once I had directly reached into the wretched chap’s stomach, I placed my gift and backed away from the quivering beast. It seemed to have passed out from pure happiness due to my kindness. Thank you for inspiring me Mr. Cicle, I will continue to spread your beliefs and kind actions across the world. You are truly a saint.

As it's eyes peered out from the abyss into your very being, and it's body moved, or so, the eldritch mass undulating in the deep dark that one could only assume to be it's body, moved, all you could feel was the swift beating of your heart and the feeling of mind numbing fear. Through the crashing waves you can hear it's whisper, a deafening echo of indescribable wailes, yet so clear it's voice can be heard. To you it cries the demand "a pound of your flesh given to all you have wronged, that is the price of grace." Time passes as it's words echo in your head, your body unmoved whatsoever, frozen in fear. Eventually you regain your senses, you find yourself completely alone staring into the abyss, abyss is all you can see, although momentarily you feel the sense that something invisible to the eye moves defiantly in the shadows. The words continue to screech in your memory like a broken record "a pound of my flesh given to all I have wronged, but that...that's too much" you think to yourself. Finally, as you slowly pull your gaze away from the abyss and turn around you see him approaching towards you. The first person you had wronged that day.
Me: “I’m not gullible, I don’t know what your talking about-“ Charlie: “if you feel the scales they feel different” Me: *touches the screen to feel the scales*
