The combine with no weapons remind me of the martial arts Black Ops assassins from Sven Coop 3.0 that ran at you with no weapons but kicked the hell out of you. Not to mention the upscaled textures of the combine are very neat. Props to the creator.
The HD work was likely AI upscaling or sometimes they can just find the source textures that are made at a higher resolution than the model itself, which is why Eli Vance's face on a ball looks so high resolution

Eh I would recommend Nemez Combine Soldier Pack. Over the HD combine pack. Not only does Nemez pack make the models HD and stay true to the original it adds additional skins.
Yeah credit where it's due to valve.. like a lot of their models have a lot of rough edges, and there were definitely corners cut where the corners were cut and it's clear.. but the overall hole surprisingly holds up incredibly well.. it's just you know if you pull things apart individually.. but I think a lot of that has to do with the physics and their havoc implementation.. pretty much all of the major games had havoc, from far cry to Doom 3 and while both far cry and Doom 3 had far more going on in the visual Fidelity tech.. and far cry just had more going on in general than both.. the physical worlds for Doom 3 and far cry just didn't react like they did in Half-Life 2.. which is a shame because the shooting was so much better LOL especially in far cry.. oh credit too far cry they tried.. doom 3 really didn't try.. and I'm not sure why because when you look at the distributions for the rag dolls.. like it's the same ik tech and whatnot.. and Doom 3 had way better animations in a lot of cases for everything but the character and the facials.. and maybe it's just you know where they spent their time, clearly valve spent a lot of time on the facial and are also very talented animators.. but the way they waited out the rag dolls and got the physics to work.. you just kind of sit there and you're like.. with Doom 3 it's like.. okay box moves havoc, rag doll moves havoc.. those rag dolls disappear real quick, if you got them to not disappear lol they skate across the floor like their paper the distribution is all screwed up.. same thing for the objects for what few actually did have motion... Still it's it's really impressive the smart choices that they made, actually all three games in the end hold up surprisingly well to a lot of their contemporaries and things that would happen later.. I think a lot of that has to do with all three teams having engine techs for their visual design whereas a lot of the seventh generation would end up being a translation layer between the engineers at epic and game designers.. which is the modern way which is problematic and very middleware heavy.. but source is a surprisingly good example of what proper middleware integration can look like with havoc, and it's weird too because there was more than a few examples of good havoc integration but.. it's amazing how many examples of bad havoc integration there are...
honestly, the ar2 reload for the player kind of fucking sucks, it makes no sense You're just loading a shell in as if you fired, Gordon should be loading in an entire magazine, AS YOU PICK UP the Mmod reload makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE they should've taken the cut reload from the rebels
the idle animations are kind of bs in my opinion it would fit civil protection to have new idle animations but brainwashed hivemind combine units that have nothing left human except their shape in them? they ARE brainwashed and they cant feel any emotions the previous animations made it seem like they actually were not human. thus giving combine soldiers "human-like" idle animations is bad.
Those are some fresh animations. This mod *Combined* with the soldier AI Enhancement would be the ultimate immersion.
