its a quick arc in this solid saga like the past 3 minni arcs before the saint beasts were...that one more full arc got a bit dragged out didn't it cause of kuwabara and yusuke's 5 episode combined fights...jesus...could of cut that down to 4 for sure....the anime adds filler fighting and dialogue to extend the show...but its not much...they also cut down the early ghost yusuke stuff in the manga cause its boring
i suggest rewatching this episode without being so tense..its a blast..same for episode 22..when you know whats happening its easier to laugh and enjoy without being on edge like you guys seem sometimes...its a pretty straight story...dont waste brain cells trying to predict or overthink..just let it happen...
Kuwa did see yukina on the video actually....so he does know what she looks like...that's a fail on your part

@@moorspell I really wish it became twice a week somehow!! It’s so hard to wait weekly for an episode. Especially when the tournament gets into its stride the best is to watch a few at a time 😅
@@amberaizen I almost like that it's once a week better because it feels like watching after-school cartoons again. I think one of the reasons people tend to like older anime more is because they weren't able to binge it and forget it as a kid.

Every time I watch this episode, I realize how much of old anime would not survive in today's climate lol. Still one of my favorite shows, but some of that dialogue hits so different now.
@@timott3680 Oh, absolutely. I definitely view this anime as a product of its times, as with so many other shows from specific decades (50s, 60s, 70s, etc.) -- it is interesting to me to look at these shows and what did and didn't fly past censors and then compare to the dialogue and plots of current shows. It DEFINITELY has a different context now!
Yusuke was an advocate of true gender equality before even Kazuma

Kinda bummed out they skipped the hiei flash back. I thought it was a very interesting and touching moment that sheds light on Hiei's childhood.
the issue is we dont know much about his past sadly yet...and until the ovas in 2018 the anime skipped an important couple chapters of him meeting kurama....for some reason...its vital to me
@@razkable we know enough to get a good picture thanks to hiei's episodes. To be honest I dont think we need every little detail explained about him the flashbacks to characterize him perfectly.
Hiei is a isolated child who still hasn't grasped his attachments with people the flashback gives the first hint of that. In it we see a kid hiei spy on his sister out of curiosity and hide out of shyness which makes him extremely endearing.
@@maxwellwright6210 we learn more about hiei in the final arc...I just meant we don't know a lot yet I mean we find out in ep 25 that yukina has no idea who he is
@@maxwellwright6210 I think the chapters the anime skips where hiei meets kurama should of been part of the anime...they explain their dynamic better and trust and who kurama really is at his core early on before we find out and hiei too sorta before the final arc gives us all we needed to know

15:54 this, along with many other things, is why I love Yu Yu Hakusho. To me, the final arc is the only one that has pacing issues. It was rushed due to real world issues. I strongly recommend reading the last arc after you watch it. I understand why they did it but they left out some things that would have added even more depth to the story
There IS AN ABRIDGED but only the first season. Lanipator did it and its incredible.
Loving all their theories about how the fight is going to go next week; they're going to be SHOCKED.
Actually, the abridged went all the way up to the next episode.
@@mamluk The next episode is the season 1 finale. That's the furthest Lanipator got. He finished the Yukina arc.
The funniest thing about that is Lani got all this renown on how good his Yusuke impression was and he admits "that wasn't a Justin Cook impression, that's just my voice."
Small thing, but around 9:19, I love the sound Botan's Ore makes when she summons it.

i think episode 24 is what i love about early yyh..fun funny fast and interesting dynamics..we don't know about sakyo the toguros or why hiei is not there faster but we know that the boys have gotten stronger and smarter in combat dealing with psychic stuff...the plot is basic so you can focus on what is being said and happening rather then the lingering questions...its not trying to surprise you but it is trying to hide stuff from you
Gokoumonki was the weakest Triad member in the mange, and in the anime, he actually managed to hit Kuwabara good.
I love Yusuke's "Ooh a basement!"
If you guys like this I recommend the Slayers series. You might find that one fun too!

So, I'm not a patreon member, so I don't have access to the discord. So I'll just have to answer the question of 'Is there an abridged series' here. Yes. There are two abridged series of Yu Yu Hakusho. First, was Lanipator's abridged series. Which, ended at the at the next episode. Then there is Panic at the Hakusho, a two episode abridged. The first covers the Four Saint Beasts, and the second one covers this arc, up until the next episode.

Been waiting for them to get to this episode. One of the most memorable episodes in the whole show. And for reasons you don't see coming.
You might want to reverse the brotherhood of the toguros the muscle man is the younger one and the creepy guy on his shoulder is the older one
Whenever anyone points to one of those other 90's and early 2000's shonen animes with horrible pacing issues and tries to excuse it by saying something like "well that's just anime at this time" I want to point them at this show. It really does a great job of showing that no, good pacing in shonen is fully possible at this time, those other shows were just not done as well in that regard.

Pretty sure that’s not possible. They have to edit the videos to shorten it to fit in the 10 minute copyright limit. Otherwise they get in trouble. That takes a lot of time and they have their own lives and other shows to edit.

There was an abridge.... by one of the founders of TeamFourStar... but it has not aged well, besides his work on the film and the Rescue Yukina Arc.
Next episode will be the first fight of Young Toguro (the big one) and Yusuke.

The thing with Yusuke against the trans girl didnt age well today, but at the same time, we can see through other works from Togashi like Hunter x Hunter, that even if the language was not the best, he respects trans rights and wants to shed some light into the topic. I admire the intention

@@bruhmoment3595 It's not that he hits them, it's the comment about her being 0.5 man when they're clearly a trans girl. The whole "you need to go full to be a man" implication with that one line. Also Kuwabara implies it's a guy dressed as a girl. The whole "if you're going to be a man, do it all the way, not halfway" also kind of discredits people who haven't completed transition.

It's your problem for assuming that the main character has to be the the perfect guiding moral compass of the story or the author's mouthpiece. None of Togashi's MCs were ever that, not Gon and certainly not Yusuke.
I'm personally impressed you guys didn't make a comment about what Yuusuke said about a transgendered character but thankfully you two know better than Togashi did back then because holy shit this scene is always hard to watch as a Non-binary person

When I first saw this scene two other trans friends were visiting and I was so embarrassed I was like "the show is not usually like this, y'all. The show is from the nineties and Japan and I was not expecting that and I also dislike this. Thanks for hanging! ^^"
Don't worry a lot of the transphobic lines are exclusive too the anime English dub.

On the one hand, back in the 90s to even see someone who wasn't gender conforming was a huge step. If it hadn't been for these sorts of appearances I would have grown up thinking that the only people who had genitalia that didn't match the socially approved presentation were cross dressers (which is obviously a totally different thing). On the other hand, when exposed to these sorts of scenes I always thought people were being extremely mean and gross for going out of their way to treat someone for how their body was rather than how they want to be treated. Especially since the body parts in question are private parts that polite people shouldn't talk about, touch, or mock ever regardless of any circumstances.
I just saw this scene since I protest quite this show as a child on episode 2 due to the repeat use of sexual harassment as a joke. The whole "I don't care if you are a woman" thing and then the first thing he does is grope her is so gross. I half expected him to give one of those time typical "you stuff your bra and you are flat lol" jokes girls got. Of course it went in a different and arguably worse direction. It's all so gross and really brings down the show. I am glad times have changed so much.
Yu Yu Hakusho wouldn't have been able to get away with this episode in present day Lmao.
They probably could and wouldn't care what anyone says. But also, it wouldn't be same since Togashi's upped his game on that front.

I think there's a mistranslation in the dub. When Yusuke says "if you want to be a man, be a man, don't half-ass it", he's supposed to be saying "if you want to be a woman, be a woman, don't half-ass it". It's still not good, he's saying she doesn't "count" unless she fully transitions, but the mistranslation made it downright nonsensical.
I love yu yu hakusho and I know it was made in a different era in a different climate but the transphobia in that episode made me cringe so bad all I could do stare. However, I am happy how Togashi was able to learn from writing trans characters better like how he did with Alluka in HXH which truly shows how much he has evolved as an artist and writer.
100% agreed. I was definitely uncomfy rewatching this now that I know I'm trans (when I rewatch YYH I typically start at the dark tournament, so I haven't watched this part maybe since I first watched the anime). This level of trans rep is about as good as you could get in this era of anime, unfortunately, but he definitely made an effort, and the fact that he did so much better with Alluka really shows that he actually cares about doing a good job in that area.
I'm so glad Togashi evolved as both an artist and a person, it just sucks that this artifact of transphobia still feels like a stinging stain on an otherwise wholesome and great show.

@@OhThatRobin Miyuki was quite literally trying to kill him and preventing them from trying to save an innocent girl (who happens to be his friend's sister btw) from being possibly tortured. I dont think its anything phobic about the fight itself. Can you specify what part of the monologue was phobic? Because I thought the whole point of Yusuke's dialogue was that he doesn't care about gender and doesn't discriminate on that basis at all when it comes to fighting........ unless I am forgetting something in particular

@@OhThatRobin I don't think he was being transphobic so much as he was being technical. Even after finding out the truth he still referred to her as a woman, until Kuwabara made a big deal about it. And then he only yelled at her because she was trying to have it both ways "You won't fight me as an equal" then followed up with "You're only being so violent because you're disgusted by me". Those ideas don't work together. She either wants to fight as an equal, in which case Yusuke wouldn't hold back, or she doesn't. She literally sets herself up to be the victim no matter the situation. She's half-assed, in every part of her personality, she doesn't commit to anything if it doesn't suit her.
Seriously the only bad writing on her is she's too nuanced to be a side villain. She wasn't even the focus of an episode, let alone more than that.
oof forgot about this part, love this anime but as a trans guy I am very uncomfy, that "you think I'm a freak, don't you?" really hit hard
