Honda does NOT have you completely covered... 1) Remove your seat belt.. 2) put the car in reverse and backup.. 3) Watch the tranny slam itself into Park when you open the drivers door, like mine does... I did this once while backing up my travel trailer to watch a tree stump out of camera view and Honda engineers felt it was safer to slam the Parking pin into position and jam the transmission... Thanks Honda... Keep your seatbelt on if you open the door and this will not happen... Lesson learned!!!!
Or my favorite. You forget to turn your brake mitigation off and you attempt an acceleration pass menuver but the car thinks your gonna rear end the guy your behind and instead and slams the brake. Sending my arms into the steering wheel.
hey thanks for the tip yes I had the same experience when backing up and the transmission slamming in the park. I'm sure that's great for my gears! but good to know if I leave my seat belt on it won't happen again!
That's dumb so if my dog is being bad and climbing all over and accidentally hits park, it just shifts into neutral? It should just stay in drive and lockout the others.
So if you are driving done the road at 65 mile per hour in bumper to bumper traffic , then accidently put this is reverse. it will shift to neutral causing your car to decelerate and possibility causing an accident . Seem like the worst idea in the world to me to put this button down where you can bump it , spill coffee on it
Thanks for this clarification demonstration video and it has answered some common curiosity questions. We have a 2021 Honda Passport and the Pushbutton Shifter is similar. So, through either program logic (CPU) or by digital electronic circuits, the implemented effective checks and disallowable functions are effectively proven.
I've been driving my dad's pilot for a month, and I have to look down to find the right button for Drive and Park --- absolutely unacceptable. Complete lack of common sense consideration for driver experience. Shift levers are far more practical because they sit higher up and are easy to grab hold of and simply push into the gear you want, especially important when performing multi point reverse / parking maneuvers. This consumeristic gimmicky attempt at reinventing the shifter needs to stop.
Tbh you’re incredibly dumb to hit the wrong button while driving on the highway. It’s not a concern that’ll ever happen. If it does, then you shouldn’t be driving and pulling over and stopping to hand over your keys to someone else is appropriate. Honda wins again
@@calebharris4127 The buttons are in a spot that can be accidentally hit. Its not about "being dumb" its a piss poor design, Honda fanboy. Cry more please.
I have a honda pilot 23, first honda ever, this button crap is the worst. Im surprised/ but i understand why no one has created an after market shifter to tap the buttons when shifting. But im going to have to engineer one and 3d print one and make it so that it has a botton pin to hit N and drive, a side pin to press with pressure releease reverse, and push release for parking. Yeah is dangerous because if it fails your a sitting duck and this will require compartment removal to add this custom shifter but also has to be develop to eject out of the way incase emergency happens and u need to remove it. I need a gear shifter.
This is a horrible move by Honda. What is so wrong with having a standard shifter?! The button thing is lame because you have to constantly be looking down and I can see how easy it would be to hit the wrong button. Is this truly the best that auto engineers could come up trying g to be creative and innovative? Please, give me a break. Smh.

nothings wrong with the car, just a driver who thinks every car is the same. Bottomline is, know what youre buying before you complain.

This is to stop your vehicle from driving away, should you ever forget to place it in park before leaving the vehicle while it's running.
RTFM.
Yes, to Mark and the RV trailering problem. Need to occasionally open drivers door while backing ! !

Ok, second question; what happens when you are driving along and accidentally push the Start button?
Still feel like button shifters are lame
S on S/D bottom doesn’t stand for sport mode, it subsequent drive

Its a dumb system because you cant go back in to drive until the vehicle stops and your foot is on the brake. Seems very dangerous on the highway.

more like dumb driver
You can go back into drive from neutral on the highway
It's one of the dumbest designs I've seen.
What about if u driving n hit the Nutri
Thank so much lol. I was really curious about this

How about the ignition button at those speeds??
What happens when you’re in neutral rolling? Can you put it in drive?
Thank you sooo much
I don’t see the gear lever only push button.. what Honda is this?
thanks for the video
I hate the whole idea of push button shifting. I would rather have a stick shifter any day.
Thank that was simple
Thanks for you...and thanks for honda 👍😀
