Good tips, but none are the "first things" I'd do with my phone. As soon as I get it I'll be testing the hardware for defects. Screen tests, camera tests, audio tests, etc. If that goes well I'll put a screen protector on it and slap a case on the back. Then I'll check for any firmware updates after logging into my google and samsung accounts, but I won't install the firmware until my old apps finish installing. After that, I'll go through an optimization pass: disable animations, stop wifi/bluetooth scanning, disable gesture features I won't use, etc. Then I'll customize my home screen. After that, I'll worry about the small things.
I'm actually going to be paying LESS money a month now than before with my s7e. I don't understand why people complain about the price.. who actually goes out and buys the phone outright? not a lot of people. most are on a 2 year plan.

It's still money leaving your pocket and going into a slab of metal and glass, money that you could have put towards time with your family, travel, making memories. $1,000 is a lot to invest in something that most people only waste their lives on. At least that's my perspective.

My note 8 is on the way. My note 5 for T-Mobile does NOT have the bootloader locked like Verizon or AT&T. Neither does my wife's Galaxy S7 I don't know about Sprint, but T-Mobile does not lock bootloaders.. If you are locked, see if safestrap by xda-developers.com member hashcode is available for the Note 8 on xda-developers.com. It allows you to hold up to 4 custom ROMs and works by waiting until the bootloader loads the standard ROM, safestrap then loads your custom ROM over it. Beats the bootloader. I'm not sure if hashcode is still updating safestrap, but it's worth checking.
The only thing I don't like about the International version of any phone is that they usually don't have 4G LTE. I got a S7 Edge, International version and it only has 4G.
The Gif feature is not as smooth as you think it is when you send it to people in a message, it moves like pictures, even for a 2 second screen grab :{

None that I know of, it's not really a big problem with me personally, I've had the Note 3 since it launched and the burn-in only grabs my attention when the screen is all white and even then it's not so bad. I'd obviously prefer it not be there, especially if I had spent $1,000 on it like the 8 costs, it's just the trade-off of having perfect blacks and sexy colors I guess.
I have an S7 just less than a year old and it got burn-in already. I already ordered the Note 8 since we have a company discount with free data. I love android and I prefer it over IOS but due to burn-in issue I'm having second thoughts.
Do you constantly have your screen brightness turned all the way up? I think keeping it below 80% most of the time really helps. I've heard iOS is going to OLED soon too so you may have to find a phone that still uses LCD if it's a big issue for you.

The Galaxy S8 U.S. variants can be rooted now that's why I got the S8 instead because I'm with T-Mobile and the Note 8 would come with a locked boot loader from T-Mobile to so we're lucky to have a root for the S8 from T-Mobile so I wouldn't get your hopes up for a root for the Note 8 for U.S. variants cause it took months to make one for the S8 on U.S variants.
I used to hate the fact that we couldn't root Samsung devices without tripping Knox but honestly.. the only reason to ever root again is adblocker (at least for me) I
The back of my Orchid Gray Note 8 most certainly does not look or feel like glass. Seriously, tapping on it sounds exactly like plastic. I don't think it's glass.
