  • Fox 13 Government Reporter Kayla Solomon reports on a Contaminated Community
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that Sterilization Services of Tennessee has been emitting harmful ethylene oxide (EtO) since at least 1979.
Now a 20-page class action lawsuit has been filed in circuit court against the facility. The lawsuit outlines how all 8 plaintiffs lived within 4 miles of the building and "due to exposure to the poisoned air, the named Plaintiffs have suffered severe injuries, including miscarriages, birth defects, brain cancer, blood cancer, stomach cancer, lymphoma, leukemia, and breast cancer - and one has died as a result.”
Partner Paul Napoli shared, "People become aware of the situation and put 2 and 2 together and realize that their cancer could be due to a man-made reason." He adds that he would not be surprised to hear from people who moved to other parts of the country from South Memphis but still, unfortunately, develop severe illnesses.
