A good idea for potting plants, is to save your used dryer sheets to place in the bottom of the pot to keep the soil from leaking out. Also, when potting plants, I place about an inch or so of small stones on top of the dryer sheet to create good drainage. (You can purchase small bags of stones at the Dollar Tree that are perfect for this use.) Always use pots with drainage holes and place them on shallow saucers to collect the run-off water. Thank you Y Garden for your lovely and informative videos. kristi
Coleus have so many marvelous color combinations. Now I want to get some for the summer garden, and root them during winter for some very good entertainment, and preparing for NEXT summer! Thanks for showing us how this is done, and how simple it is.
Thank you for sharing!!! I have a Coleus that's like a cat: it has wilted and come back to life 9 times. But now I have time to give it the love it deserves so thank you for teaching with such clarity!
And btw...as beautiful as coleus truly are, all parts of them are toxic to pets. Maybe that is no problem for you and you have no pets, or the plants are outside and the pets are inside (like it is for me) I just thought I'd pass that information on to others. Happy growing Melissa! kristi
Really like the way you show close views and talk clearly and show the right way and the wrong way plan on planting lots of them around my lake thanks Arend
Yukia, your plant room looks amazing! I wish I had one like that! :) Thank you for making this video! This was the first year I was able to keep a coleus plant alive all winter and your tips couldn’t have come in a better time. I’m looking forward to propagating a lot of beautiful coleus pretty soon!
I just got my plant from my husband for my birthday June 26 I am so happy I can have it in the house thank you so much God bless you always have a beautiful day
I brought a full grown gorgeous coleus into the house I had in a pot outside during the summer. I had so many knats I had to throw it out and dealt with the knats for months! I never want to go thru that again!
@@deniseschultz8993 -Hi. I have been taking cutting from my Coleus plants every few days to prorogate them. I too have one outside, but unless I bake the soil to kill any critters, I'll just cut and prorogate most of it to avoid bringing anything inside. Is that an option for you?? Hope this was helpful.
I bought a young Kong coleus earlier this year, and it LOVES it under my grown light. I just noticed today it’s starting to grow a flower! I’m planning to save the seeds , and grow babies over the winter ❤️
I love your room! Your house even has a winter happy place🤗 I will definitely do this with my colors this year! I also love your outtakes, your hilarious! Hugs virtually🤗
Thanks. - learned something new (didn’t know about the light needs). Sadly I had an infestation in my coleus cuttings room, so starting again now. Nice timing.
Thanks for inspiring me to do this. I saw your video from last year and this reminder/update is great. Love your bloopers - there's more work to creating them than people realize.
That was a really helpful video! I wasn't sure where to take the cutting and took the all just above the leaf nodes! Now it makes more sense to take the below since that is where it will develop the roots. Thanks!
We sowed a lot of coleus seeds but only a few germinated. We now have half a dozen coleus, five of which are quite boring but one has some lovely colourful leaves and now, thanks to you, we know how to get more of the nicer one. Thank you.
Here in Sweden, everyone cut above the node 😅 in that way you don't get an ugly stem sticking out (and dying) and you have some stem om the cutting to grow root without taking off any leaves 😁 you don't need the node to grow roots!
I'm into begonia. But coleus attracts my attention too! Just ordered 8 different coleus cuttings from Shopee. Thanks dear for your easy-to-understand instructions. God bless! ♥
Hi that's a great video. Thank you. My coleus cuttings always root successfully, but... as soon as I plant the cuttings in pots... they die. Can you tell me what's going on here?
OK your videos so cute because you have these giant coleus all over around you like your Insta kind of tropical jungle lol But many of the videos lack the types of soil like what’s in the exact mix when I go to the store to get soil there are so many different kinds now so I would love to see more of a blend or even the exhumed an image of what’s in the soil that you use that’s best thank you.
Even the extra leaves when put in water for a week or 10 days start the root. I took 2 cuts from my friend and it made 2 basic plants and some 7-8 plants from the trimmed lower leaves. It was just amazing to get 10 plants free of cost. Amazing Mother Nature.
Hi I got given a coleus cutting which is lovely but when I took it out of packaging one lovely leaf fell off. It has a good stalk on it and I was wondering if I could save/use/propagate in any way or should I just throw it away and concentrate on the really good cutting that I have?? Would love your input. Well done on such a great video xx
Hi Yulia. Thx for the vid. Question for you: I follow a gardening channel out of Canada. He propagates and sells roses. He uses a rooting hormone. Do you have any experience with that and if so, when should you use it and when is it unnecessary? Thanks! Oh, and also, how often (if at all) will you fertilizer the coleus?
I took a pinch when leaving a restaurant lol I have had it in water since Tuesday and I left the first two sets of leaves. I now have on the lowest two leaves sore beginning to crinkle on the end. Any advice? Ty!! ❤️❤️❤️
3:39 from my experience, you can see impressive roots in a matter of days only. It's really amazing how strong those plants are. Real survivors!
It's almost 11pm as I watch this and have a sudden burst of energy to cut and propagate! Thank you, and the bloopers are wonderful!
Same! It’s 11:37 pm and I’m gonna propagate a bunch of plants
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that gets sudden late night energy and choose to spend it on things like propagating my plants, lol.
ADHD? Me too ❤
4 years ago already!
It's 1230am and I swear I thought the same thing 😮😊
Perfect video. The camera angle was perfect to show how and where to cut, and demonstrating the cuttings into water then into a pot is awesome
I've never seen that green one with the purple stems and veining. It is beautiful!!!

I like gathering a large bunch and make an arrangement out of them. I find them so pretty and I get them to grow at the same time.
That's what I'm doing now...... your coleus are gorgeous. It's amazing when you propagate in water you see the roots . Thank you
Thanks for the info! I just put my very 1st one in water in my kitchen window & wanted to see if I did it correctly. I did!
Thanks for this! I don't know why I was so nervous, but you've made everything seem simple and caring.

Great video. Thank you. Got one from my neighbour & its growing very quickly. Gorgeous plants 🙏🌍🌱

This video is so helpful. Our coleus is very stringy. It is definitely time to cut it back. This will be my first attempt at propagating. Exciting!

Nice! Coleus has so many different colors
@@ydoyougarden Yes. Much more easy to care of & to propagate also. May I ask what kind of fertilizer do best on coleus? Much thanks! ♥
Thank you so much for this. I have a couple of coleus I really want to try propagating. 😊
Great video. What variety of coleus are you potting at 5:00 (bright green leaves with dark purple stems, centers and leaf edges)?
Thank you for sharing very informative.
Great video! Can you place the cuttings under grow lights?
This was fantastic! Thank you so much!!!
Happy Easter , enjoyed this !
wonderful
Hi that's a great video. Thank you.
My coleus cuttings always root successfully, but... as soon as I plant the cuttings in pots... they die. Can you tell me what's going on here?
Really helpful thank you. I LOVE that coleus with green leaves and black markings (at time stamp 5')..do you know the variety?
I love the bloopers at the end 😅
Great video!

Is there any issue with planting the cuttings directly into the ground after rooting them in water? We are in Zone 6 in Kansas.
Good info Mam. Thanks

I had a coleus leaf that rooted however i planted it and for months it never grew an actual plant. What did you do to grow it?
Wow just leaves in star grew a root!
Thank you so much for this video❤… Godspeed

I stick my coleus cuttings right in the soil with some vermiculite in the planting hole and have a lot of luck that way too.
My Coleus stems are bending while they sit in the water. It's harder for them to fit in the glass now. They've been in there about a week.
Any chance you know the name of the green/purple rooted variation you potted in the video?
@ 4:25 is that the fishnet stocking coleus? thanks

After the water propagation, could you have planted it in the ground rather than the pot, assuming the weather was appropriate?
Thank you! 💐
Nice video on this topic. Any thoughts on other plants you could propagate from cuttings and use water to develop roots?
Lots of plants! Purple Heart, African violets, ficus, polka dot, spider plant...
So coleus can't survive in the cold or outside? Thank you!
Yes, but, a freeze takes them out..they will be black and dried up after.
Will you have to replant in a bigger container eventually? How do you how big the plant will get?
Need to get some Coleus plants. Wish you were my neighbor😌. T.Y. 💛
Judith Johnson, I wish she was my neighbor too.
Thank you! Also, the bloopers 😂😂😂
Glad you enjoyed!
.
Thank you my coleus was flowering and leggy
Can you put the cuttings in water outside if it’s summertime?
I took a pinch when leaving a restaurant lol I have had it in water since Tuesday and I left the first two sets of leaves. I now have on the lowest two leaves sore beginning to crinkle on the end. Any advice? Ty!! ❤️❤️❤️
take your cuttings, put them in water then.... where do you place the jar?????
Have you tried water propagating the leaves? I'm just a newbie in growing Coleus and I'm getting addicted to these colorful plants.
