Great job I really like how you explained why each head was placed in its position.
Nice install. Lots of thought went into the install.
4:50 wow great idea for placement of the head. Easy cleaning/filter changes. Nice work.
I would like to see a follow up review from this install and how efficient it has been for them
Nice clean install. If it was my job I would run those condensate lines down the wall to the gutter or it’s gonna stain the roof. Overall very nice job.
Beautiful install nice spot I'd tell them move the cat beds or play are it's by the evaporator
Neat... that must be very efficient.
Two questions, what type of insulation did you use for the copper? I live in Texas . Second, how much colling do you lose from it being in the attic?
Ductless systems save marriages and families. Not everyone is happy with their room temp, especially at night. So customizable temps helps a ton.
How were you able to stay under the maximum amount of pipe vertically
How does these systems work in bathrooms, mudroom? Keeping the doors open the only option are are there smaller indoor units for them? How much would a project typically cost for a 2 floor 2000sq ft house?
If you had the attic to play with, why didn’t you just run ducted for the upper floor off one air handler? Or even do heads with a branch box in the attic instead of individual lines?
I am right in the middle of figuring out a system like this for my house we are finishing. New construction. I am hesitant that using the ducted air handlers would move enough air. I’d love to speak with you or read some info on how well these work. I’m needing about 7 zones in a 4 bed / 2 bath house with a large living area also. Thank you!
They work great!! Best ducted system is still the Daikin VRVS with Daikin DZK Zoning....if you want all ducted.
Since the upstairs ducted unit it thermostatically controlled, does it just cycle on and off, or is is able to regulate with variable speeds like the wall units do? Second question, when the temperature has been satisfied (for any of the units), does the wall unit just keep running in low, or does it eventually shut off? I've read different things.. some shut off, some don't because the thermostat is in the wall unit and it needs air flow... In a humid climate I'm curious about how much water would evaporate back into the air if the fan has to keep blowing (imagine night time when the temp starts to get cooler and the compressor can't regulate down any further - the compressor has to shut off).
Thank you for your video! I found it very helpful. I live in SoCal and currently have central ac installed in our house. Based on feedback I received from 2 different central ac companies, it appears that ac ac was installed in a very contrived and inefficient way. I am reluctant to put a lot of money into re-ducting everything and paying too much. What are your thoughts on a multi-ductless ac unit? I don’t need to cool the entire house just the bedrooms and family room.
I think you just said it. Ductless. Way better value for your money.
Thanks for the great vid, from a conventional central unit(2) in norcal,
Looks good, would be great if you talk a bit about operating cost of this setup.
OP cost is hard. We install and I go back to film, but I rarely get that kind of year end feedback. Plus it depends on utility costs and building insulation, etc. The EPA has an excellent fuel cost estimator if you can find it. It's an excel spreadsheet.
Hey can you link the products used to sit your outdoor units on? Also did you use two systems due to the capacity needs?
Great video! I love hearing the rationale behind the installation for head placement and so on. I'm gathering information on installing a 4 zone system in my home, and I'll need something in the 42k btu range. I'm guessing you're using two 36k btu outdoor units....so two questions for you. Are those hyper heating units, and what was the model # for those?
No there not the hyprerheat units say it on the front but these are still heat pumps
I never even heard of hyper heat units. Is it that much better?
They can run in lower temperatures and the have heating eliminates in the outdoor unit to speed up defrost
Vic da G regular heat pumps can work at 100% efficiency down to -4F
Hyper heat units can run at 100% efficiency down to -14F this is what makes the units more suitable for climates zones 4, 5 and 6.
Could you identify the btu of each head unit ? The ducted concealed unit was 12k and is that in an attic ? My attic could fit one but it’s hot in summer cold in winter ( Cape Cod) do they survive in non heated/cooled environment? Thank you for this video!
How does it compare with your electric bill using the old system now with the new system?
if I had to install 2 condensing units I would choose one for main floor with 33 seers and other one for the rest of the house
Did you run that third lineset through the basement or inside the ceiling/floor between the basement and the first floor?
I have a Trane ductless with 5 zones. It does pretty good for an old house with basically no insulation.
N Holt where are you located ? Any model numbers or btu you are using ?
These are nice and all but I’d really like to know what it set them back To see if it’s even worth it putting something like this in my own home. Thank you for a good video.
Odds are that it was more expensive or the same price as a traditional ducted system. But it just depends on many factors
Nice job, what is the total price for units with job?
What about bathrooms and closets. Are the ungoldy hot?
That was very informative- I am especially interested in the concealed ducted system that you showed in the master bedroom-any idea of costs??
For cost you would have to be more specific.
That one on left probably has restricted airflow due to being so close to the side of the house not being as efficient/causing future breakdowns from high head pressure especially if/when the coils get clogged. Just saying love the concept I think all homes should be like this just have questions and remarks, thanks.
@Jaime Alonzo too late
Attic unit I’m confuse does it have pump drain connected on top and look like it pipe up hill lol
How much refidgirent is in just the line sets?
Can you share the project cost? Great video
jaime del salto something like this would cost 20k materials & labor in NJ
Hey Wes I bought an LG unit LMU360HHV and 5 wall mount air handlers. So I don't buy unnecessary accessories could you possibly help me with things each handler needs and the condenser? I know you don't review LG products but would appreciate your input. Home is a small 2 story 2 upstairs and downstairs bedroom pretty much on one side of the house with the kitchen and living room connected on the front side of the house (bottom deck of course). ecomfort of course gave me recommended things to buy but still not sure.
Sorry dude, I cant speak to LG.
And kind of a tech question but I see that you run the lineset through the attic to hit the other side of the house. Are you worried about creating oil traps and having oil trapped in any of the evap coils?
Minisplits operate at higher pressures which lowers the possibility for oil traps.
Can you use this on a motor home with a heat pump in it?
If one were to install a multi zone unit as shown in this video, and added an additional air handler to the multi zone compressor down the road, would connecting the new air handler line sets cause any loss of refrigerant? And how would one test the newly installed line sets for leaks, again without losing refrigerant? Please forgive if my question is absurd, as I am not an HVAC pro.
You add refrigerant
You would have to pump the system down ( get the refrigerant back in the outdoor unit) make connection and evacuate system
That's totally possible. I wouldn't recommend doing that though. It's best to install the system all at once rather then partially install it and wait.
Hi Great Video! Is it okay to use the 9k btu unit in a small bedroom? I have small bedrooms and wondered if it would be okay to use the Mitsubishi EF units in a multi-zone system. The smallest EF unit is 9k btu. Thanks!
Generally yes, but there is always a “depends” in there. Mitsu and Daikin tends to be okay…Chinese Brands and the Companies that use them it’s a hard NO.
Just wondering how the condensation leaves the pipes since there is an pipe going up (attic area from main unit) is there a pump? I thought all lines had to go in a downward position. I am considering a system with about 3 units with the air ducts as I have an open attic and basement.
They often can use a small pump, purchased as an accessory. They can be used to go up over an obstacle, then gravity can take over.
Why don't you want to put the living room on the same outdoor compressor as the master bedroom???
Hi, how much did it cost you to install all units?
What would you do or go with system wise for a 2000 sq ft new construction single story home?
maybe a daikin 4mxs with 4 zones?
What does the thermostat connect to? The outside unit? I want to do a mini split ducted but it seems a bit complex because of the vents and such. So instead of the inside wall unit, can I just put vents? And if so, what do I connect the thermostat to?
Yes you can do ducts. With mitsu thermostat is wireless, with daikin thermostat connects to fan coil in attic. A professional hvac design should be able to tell you what's possible.
Am i mistaken or does that unit up in the attic have a condensate line that goes UP? I have been trying to track down the answer to whether or not its possible for that condensate line to ever take a path that travels up?
Condensate lines can run up but they require a condensate pump. These pumps can either be internal (in the unit) or external. Some units come with a pump built in.
I would hate to do away with the gas heat, where I live it's way cheaper to heat with gas than electric. I do like the idea of ductless for AC though.
So they still make those air handlers? I like the design of them, but don’t see them lately.
Go to mylinkdrive.com for all Mitsu products list
Nice install! Just got an LG 3 zone put in myself. Wondering why the homeowner didnt go with a ceiling cassette in the one application that seems to run across the attic then out, down a foot then back in. Seems like alot of wasted line length. Seems like the whole project had massive line length usage involved!
He wanted a wall mount head.
I would think the condensers need more spacing off the house for proper airflow ?
Minimum distance from wall is 4inches as per Mitsubishi literature. That being said its definitely better to have a foot. But at the same time its better then what most people do and put bushes right up against it to hide the machine.
How come all the lines run on the outside of the house? You guys did a really tidy job, but it's still unsightly. Why not run them inside the walls? Is it just cost or is there an engineering reason?
Brant Louck good question! It’s just not that easy, plus sheet rock would have to be removed and they didn’t want that. So, no impossible, just harder and inconvenient to do it that way.
How did you address closed closets and rooms with the door closed?
Here’s an idea, open the doors 🤦♂️
how many units do i need for a 1800 sq ft home
How much is your monthly bill? and what SEER are the units???
SEER is in the 20s and Monthly is estimated at $100, but you might get lucky and have the homeowner chime in here.
What was the general cost of this specific setup / installation? Thanks!
About 30k
@@TheDiskinsDoEverything you gotta be kiddin
What is the noise level, in decibels,of the attic system? Is it less efficient because of the ducting?
Same as a indoor head, but trick is to mount it where vibration cant travel with the truss/joist to an undesired location. So, you might mount it away from the bedroom, but truss carries vibration to where you dont want it.
@@TheDiskinsDoEverything How do electric costs on a ductless system compare to a conventional heat pump?
@@Brookside975 that one is easier. Answer is half as much as a conventional.
Damn I just had a new unit put in two day’s ago and now I’m regretting not doing a system like this.
THE LOUIE BRAND what system did you do?
Barron Green Team Goodman 3.5 ton
Paint those speedy channels the same as the house
Butting the left vent side Immediately up next to the house wall was a careless rookie mistake. This blocks air flow by adding static.
@THE ORIGINAL PROFESSOR CHAOS LoL
It really doesn’t most of the air is sucked in from the back
Try the exhaust airtec grilles MVE, better air flow, how many people work for barrons? nice videos.
Nice suggestion, I love those, but customer didnt want the plastic look. 150ish. Thanks!
OF COURSE THE ALL IMPORTANT ELECTRIC BILL
HOW MUCH WAS THE ELECTRIC BILL?
Wont the cat sit on the ac filter?
That or the filter will clog a LOT faster from it's proximity to the cat tree
not if you put a dog on top of it
Does a system like this get less expensive if installed as new construction on a single level home? I ask this question because I see these systems online for 5-6k.
Yuri polkavich doesn’t get much cheaper.
The cost of the equipment isn’t why installs cost $$$.
The cost for the equipment would not change, but access would be much better on new construction, so labor cost would be less. Also would be able to route and conceal things so much better.
no warranty either if purchased online, there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes and the skill of the designer and install team is the different between reliability issues and a system that lasts for many many years with few issues with routine maintenance. Mitsubishi Builds for quality with their Hvac equipment.
what state because heat pumps are horrible .I replaced mine but sure wish I could have gone traditional heat and cooling .My electric bill can be over 300 dollars a month if it gets down to 30 degrees .Reserve heat comes on and this unit is a dual stage lennox heat pump and my walls are 2x6 and floors are insulated and I have a basement and live on the southside of VA
These units are more efficient heating down to around 0 degrees I believe.
The tech they use is the future. They cost more but they are better.
Great HVAC planning. Interior decorating, not so much.
Hush! I'm gonna buy that owl at 3:48 !
How much would it cost for this system in a 3 bedroom 2000sq ft home?
I wish they would answer questions.
so you used two 36000BTU ductless plus one ducted 12000BTU units, and need to maintain three systems and nine modules, compared with traditional two ducted systems and total four modules.
Yes. Customer gets what they want.
I'm seeing $6,000+ (installation not included) is that pretty close, or is it a lot more than that because there are two outside units?
This was 30k including install
What was the cost of this install?
good
i would have did an electric furnace for aux heat
If the house had existing ductwork which it should have if it had a furnace, this doesn't make much sense. Put in a good quailty furnace and heat pump or ac. I like minis but they aren't as comprehensive in their coverage as properly installed forced air.
I get what you are saying when compared to say a 2 zone ductless, but you are inaccurate when compared to a fully zoned house.
@@TheDiskinsDoEverything ducting runs to all spaces, including bathrooms. Thats important in cold climates. I just installed a mini with 2 heads in a house that has electric resistance heat. Will work great i hope. Retrofitting a ducted system would have been difficult in that situation.
@@Bob.W. yeah. up grade the units. clean out the ducts. maybe $8k?
SO you have 3 tons total for the house or 2 3 tons systems?
2 - 3 ton systems
what was the ballpark cost of this system? Thanks. Great vid.
I own a very old home and I dont have existing duck work. I would like zone my house but I don't want to break the bank. How much was this particular project?
A couple of comments above yours he replied stating it was about $30,000.
Luke H that was the price for this install
Have you thought about what your going to do when the electric company is not powering that stuff anymore?
Those heat pumps are pretty close to the wall
Can you cool one room while heating another?
Not with this series of equipment, Mitsubishi offers the R2 Series that allows you to do just that. It may be considered cost prohibitive in the average residential application.
Partially. There are 3 interior units tied to each exterior unit. You can heat on 3 units while cool on the other. The first unit in the series that turns on becomes the "master" and decides if heating or cooling takes place.
Micheal Patrick I don’t think it’s residential capable.
6ton plus.
It’s also 3 phase power only for R2 heat recovery.
They have the city multi S-series which is great and expensive. But it can not simultaneously beat and cool.
what signal wire is that... its shielded right
non shielded between air handlers and outdoor unit / branch boxes depending on the model. shielded is only needed for communication between od units and branch boxes (on systems which use the branch box)
What price range are these going for ?
30k
Ok, now this is cool (pun intended). The concealed ducted system addresses the flaws of the traditional mini-split (multi-split) system. Namely, you have many unconditioned spaces.
I'm gutting a 1927 built house, rewiring and including HVAC (currently the house uses window units). Can the pipes be run inside the walls?
Yes, but I would leave access to any flare connection. They tend to leak
We cut drywall open all the time... no big deal if you need to get at it again
@@MrAgatto2 - having to open and repair, texture, paint drywall would be a drag if all you're doing is troubleshooting a dysfunctional indoor head unit.
Do you have to leave all the doors open???
HunsValley No
If you were doing new construction would you recommend running the lines in the walls or stick with exterior as shown in this video?
Willie Martin in the walls
These heat-pump/split units are typically rated for a 10-15 yr life span, and rule #1 when replacing them is NOT to re-use the refrigerant line sets. So I would never bury the lines in the walls.
Concealed is quieter than wall type?
machines are identical in noise, but one is in the attic and other is on the wall.
@@TheDiskinsDoEverything Thank you so much.
How much did this end up costing? Like 40k?

do you use this to heat in the winter?
Yes
@@TheDiskinsDoEverything how effective are they at heating a space?
S. very good!
Whats your opinion on LG?
Jeremy Lang we quite installing due to 50% initial quality failure rate. Mitsubishi or Daikin.
Great if you live in a mild climate where it does not get down to less than say, 50F. I have never been in a home that had a heat pump that was comfortable in the winter time.
Steven Meyer
Only if you’re expecting 120F coming from the register. Set the thermostat and leave it be.
Then you have never had a well designed ductless heat pump system.
You haven't experienced an modern 15 SEER system or better. My house is very comfortable.
@@peterldean How cold does it get in the winter where you live, Peter? Can it maintain 72 degrees when it is, say 15 degrees outside?
@@Brookside975 Mitsubishi systems can heat at 100% capacity down to 5 degrees outside temperature without using electric heat. These are not your traditional heat pumps that lose capacity at 35-40 degrees like you are used to.
How much does a setup like this cost? Would it have been cheaper to use a double stack outdoor unit instead of two single stack units?
agreen6301 depends on a lot of stuff and part of country. in NW its about 25k-30k. No to that, we needed 6 zones and more btus. vrv was not an option.

U guys in America think ductless units are a miracle and it’s brand new technology when everyone else in the rest of the world has had these forever
lol. Why that is the case I will never know.
Right individual room control variable output low running cost, there perfect
They're crazy expensive here I don't know why
@@joepierson3859 I think there just priced normally here in au because Our ducted units are these too (they usally have the big twin fan outdoor)
A lot of dependence on doors being open to execute the “plan”; that’s a little optimistic.
Yeah I agree. That's what I don't like about these ductless systems. I'm considering getting one because I dont have a lot of room for ductwork but I'm still reluctant.
@@vflrockytop you could always put grates in doors and or above the doors and the unit will pull from the rooms... ive found them to be really nice and quiet
@@MrAgatto2 No it won't "pull" from other areas. There is no duct work so the fan simply blows across the coils hanging on the wall.

A house with that layout and the ability to use central air conditioning would’ve been so much better than the split duck units. There is nothing like the even comfort of central air I don’t find the split duck units can do that. I’ve been to a few homes with them and they don’t compare to central air.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO OWNER?
25k-20k
This type of setup is just not economical. They way to go In my eyes is with a central ducted system but use mini splits to help out in strategic areas like master suites. Sort of a hybrid approach that can be used to lower energy usage.
I love that kind of system, but remember the customer dictates what is economical and what is not
Putting heating or cooling in an attic?!! OMG - would never do that, especially with a drip pan.
Why not?
the worst thing about conventional HVAC units that have duct systems is that they are typically ran through the attic or crawlspace of a house, which to me is completely stupid in my opinion... Especially when you consider that in the summer an attic can get up to 150 degrees. When the system cycles on and off the ducts (that are in the attic) heat up, then when the air kicks back on it blows all of the HOT air out of the ducts into the house...Also I have owned many houses over the years and never had a duct system that was installed correctly (with no leaks). The other way is to run the ducts under the house through a crawl space (which is disgusting in most houses) not to mention rodents love to get into HVAC ducts. I'm about to build a new house this year and I am considering going ductless, the only thing I worry about is even temps throughout the house, such as closets, bathrooms, laundry rooms, etc...
all true. bathrooms and laundry do electric heated floor under the tile. closets...I dont know if that matters too much, that is up to you.
great videos, but your outside units are too close to the house, especially the left one on the left side. Airflow around the outside unit is very important.
Manual states 3-15/16" space on left side and 13-25/32" on right side.
I'm installing mine later today.
Just got a quote for 15k. Sure why not? Let's just add a flight to Tahiti on top of it,?
You should go on VACA, we all need it!

Ding. Ding. Ding. 30kish is correct. Depends on the house.
@@TheDiskinsDoEverything How much is annualized electric use?
I'm a tech in Florida, that job is easy 30k
I agree with you. We got a 24k dollar bid on a new system like this with only one 48k btu outdoor unit and 5 heads at 9k each. I did it myself, put one mitsubishi 15k on one side, a 12k on the other side, and redid the original system with a new 3.5 ton outdoor unit and kept the ducts and air handler in the attic. Now are at least options in the house to cool only certain areas, turn off big main unit and save, and also seperated to multiple units with seperate kitchens, making it more private and comfortable having your own thermostat for that section of the house. The entire job came in at under 3k because I purchased second hand ac systems from a bulk commercial replacement jobsite. Happy to say that was 3 years ago. Need a capacitor for my outdoor condensor on my 3.5 ton main unit. Fan was stuck and hot when I woke, ac not cooling, I turned the fan with a screw driver and started working again.
You talk $30k like it's nothing.
I have a 1939 home and it’s been on window units it’s whole life. Wanted to update it but 15k for a new hvac system is out of my range. It’s a 3/1 1,400swft single level wood frame. How much do you think a ductless system would run me roughly?
Michael Bacile this set up in the video is much more expensive than a basic ducted system.
