Thank you to the donors and the craftsmen who restored this!! Another group of stop tabs comes to life! The silent movie events just became even better! Somehow, I wish that you could install a large scale gong but that would deviate from what was installed originally.
Very cool! I’ve been a fan of this organ since I was a little kid and we would listen to “Bach on the Biggest”. I hope to hear it in person before I die!
Carl hot-wiring all of the toys reminded me a bit of Down Periscope, where Toby Huss played an electrician's mate with unusual ideas about wiring. (It's a cheesy film but an occasional guilty pleasure.) How cool that the Phish community supported this restoration!
it’s been a little bit since an update im really excited to see how things are going an im just wondering if there is a estimated completion date for a 100 percent working an restored organ as such an amazing and unique instrument should be used at its full potential an it’s incredible all the amazing people who have donated to make the truly one of a kind organ sing once again i personally have wanted to do a visit an would love to take a tour of this amazing organ unfortunately i haven’t been able to make it happen yet but one day i will
I thought the cymbals were interesting. Zildjian's i and S lines aren't particularly fancy, they're more practical choices than I would expect from someone outside the percussion world.
That is correct, both of the cymbals are new. Both cymbals had cracks in them, so we made the decision to replace them with new cymbals. The original cymbals will be saved and kept in our archives.
What is the purpose of the toy counter on an organ that is not strictly a theatre organ unless it has a theatre organ division & where are the bass & snare drum which no toy counter is complete without? What are those hovercraft like devices on the back wall? Are these the regulators as i have never seen regulators like this before.
The Midmer-Losh, while technically not a "theater organ" does have a great many aspects one typically attributes to theater organs - entire divisions of heavily unified stops, tibias, post horns, kinuras, etc. There is actually a bass drum, snare drum, and another cymbal that have already been restored and are currently in the chamber and playing!

Thank you so much for this post. it was a needed and welcome detour from the to do list to imagining hearing them being played.

This is AMAZING
Very cool! I am surprised how little the Gong sustains.
Yeah, it certainly needs more (for the want of a better word) "BWAAAAANGGGGGG!"
The cymbal is incredibly loud if it can make that police siren in the background inaudible while playing
Maybe ask ACPD to donate a siren for use on the toy counter.
Looks like work is progressing there in AC. Wannamaker organ may have to give up the throne soon.

The dinks and clinks department

The cymbals are brand new, aren't they? If so, were the original ones damaged? Or, maybe these are just better?

Bass drum and snare are separate, and were rebuilt in 2018.
