Which version are you learning from? I've worked from both the Bob Becker arrangement as well as the Randy Eyles. They're essentially the same except for differences in notation of things like rhythm. I did improvise a little bit with this piece. It's good to listen to recordings to get a feel of how to do it properly. I'm not sure that I did the best job of it but I'm still pretty proud of this performance. Thanks for commenting.
wow... thats insane. im gonna be playing that xylo solo for a percussion ensemble contest in a couple weeks, and im having trouble with it at HALF that speed. that guy makes it look very easy, but let assure you: it's not!
Well, I think what you should do is get recordings of some ragtime xylophone. Nexus has a great recording because it is of course Bob Becker. Other artists have some great recordings too. Most all of them have improvised elements. In my performance I improvised just a few small things in the A section, the entire repeated B section as well as an added B section, and I noodled in the repeat of the C section. There are a few different ways to improvise though.
Is this Nexus? If so, saw them here in Dallas in 1990. They were brilliant doing George Hamilton green and their composition the birds. World class Symphony Hall brand new the Morton H Meyerson. And even got a free ticket that night, what luck!
That was crazy fun, hard to find a good xylophone rag time song these days, amazing work ✨
This is great. So lucky to have Morris up there. The hall/recording sounds amazing. Keep it up!
bloody brilliant
This is really good-nice one lads
That was great. You are fortunate to study at a college that can offer you such excellent performing facilities and equipment.
Great improv section!

It just so happens that there are enough. Apparently there are enough people for Alaska to be a state as well.
