Love your video. I can totally relate…I’m going through decades of my mom’s paperwork😳 I’ve found stuff going back to the ‘70’s!!

Great job! I've been watching a lot of videos on home organization lately and I think your advice is very good and so practical, especially how you either take care of mail right away or leave it in place where you can't ignore it. 😂 I put my bills right on my lap or by my wallet too. I still struggle with a few paper areas though: kid stuff, recipes and clipped pages from magazines on home design. I'm getting there though! I like your idea about one file for each grade. Right now I'm saving it more like your mom did and my husband always teases me that they're just going to turn around and throw it away ...I always say I'm fine with that though since it's their stuff!! 😄

Thank you. very very useful information I found here. Especially the part you mentioned how you felt about the staff your mom kept for you, it gave me an idea of what to keep and what to let go. Really, thank you!

I'm pretty good at interior design and though it's off topic I have two quick tips for you. I hope that's okay. The brown floors with the brown door is too much. It's be preferable to replace the floor but easier to paint the door.... which leads to tip 2: adding a few pops of color (books, plants, pillows, a throw) would add a lot of life. You have a very, very nice room there- big with good quality elements! Thanks for the tips. I have piles to tackle so I needed your tips too. :)

It’s pretty much what I do even the color coded files. My important files are in red like car titles, birth certificates etc.
My mom keeps everything. Last year I had to help my dad get his disability. Social security office was missing my dad’s income from 1991. Luckily my mom had it so now I’m keeping that forever.
I keep my receipts in a plastic box that’s actually a picture frame. It sits on my desk as soon as we enter our house so we just drop them in there. My husband used to leave them every where but not anymore. There’s no filing receipts here. I used to file them but kept putting it off and they would end up of the floor.

I'm getting ready to purchase the recipe kit. Did you just use regular copy paper or did you use something thicker? I love the idea.

I would also encourage you for receipts or other files like tax returslns...scan them and store them ...back them up on thumb drive...in case those businesses get breached cyberattacked and lose your data. Great video.

I keep warranty Manuel's for instructions that may be different then what a similar item requires. I have used manufacters replacement due to malfunction. Had a total replacement for an instahot water system. Appliances sizes are changing. If you replace your kitchen, you'll need recipts and manuals.

I've found that even when I'm selling or giving away an item, I like to include the manual I've saved for it. It helps the person receiving the item. I can't seem to find manuals for anything online lol. I guess I'm more old-fashioned when it comes to wanting the paper booklet.

Thanks! I needed it. I am working on saving my electronic bank statements. Lots of save them to my computer. But I really have a big problem, those McDonald’s or fast food restaurant coupons and Costco. They are bulky and I try to keep a small purse . Those coupons don’t fit. Any suggestions? The front door table is a mess ,,, wet nap, mask, sanitizer.....keys....return items... These are all cluttered at the front foyer of entry table.... driving me nuts.....but don’t know how to tackle them. Tried , fail, tried failed. Bought a small entry table without door. Too exposed-- for this and that.....

I think most stores now have apps for your phone where you can scan the QR codes on coupons and save them to your app. I'm definitely of the mindset to only keep what you will actually use too. I think that always cuts down the clutter when we are realistic with ourselves. As far as the front door items, I would recommend corralling them together in a basket or drawer near your front door and only keep what you actually need to get out the house with in that location. Everything else can be purged or relocated! I hope this helps!

Thanks! And ur encouragement! I have a kid and an adult who love to escape a little during the pandemic. Since no going out, buying food supporting the local restaurants are our outlet, those McDonald’s , Harvey’s costco are always in booklets. They would worth $20 plus. Sometimes, I just wonder if I should give up those coupons.....I have a stack of unused refunded credit on cards. Kept forgetting to use them when cashing out. Feeling so bad to go thru the stack of cards at cash out while people are waiting behind too.
By the way, love ur barn door and those furnitures you guys built. I have not yet bought Our headboard yet........
