      there is no such thing. These are just marketing terms that are invented by scammy resellers in the US. And there is no standard or regulation. If you want real matcha buy from an actual JAPANESE company. End of story. If the company isn't a real Japanese company, in Japan, and the matcha isn't around $1 a gram or more, then it's most likely junk. Most of these companies have existed longer than the US has been a country.

      @@jovanleon7 No. "ceremonial grade" is a marketing term invented by resellers in the North American market. this is not something that exists in Japan, nor it is anything that's remotely regulated in the US. Anyone can put any bs in a bag or tin and call it "ceremonial grade." It doesn't mean anything. Grow up, grow some brain cells, learn how the world works. for your own good. If you want real actual quality matcha, you need to buy it from an actual Japanese tea company like ippodo. ippodo tea has been in business longer than the US has existed as a country. And it's not the only one, most of them are hundreds of years old but ippodo is easy to get in the US.

      @@jeffhicks8428 where's your proof? I live in Indonesia and we have the same grades here and it's exactly as the video says, the ceremonial grade here has the bright green color with the best taste, lesser grade is pale green even if it's 100% pure matcha from Japan from the same company.

    • @jeffhicks8428
      @jeffhicks8428 3 месяца назад +3

      @@jovanleon7 the point isnt that you can get good matcha it's that the so called classification is a marketing term and not in any way regulated. You can get good quality matcha or bad matcha that's labeled as "ceremonial grade." This is only a thing outside of Japan because like I said it's a marketing term that was created to differentiate matcha quality to consumers. But. it's not regulated. Anyone can sell anything and call it "ceremonial grade" because "ceremonial grade" isn't actually a real thing. that doesn't mean every company selling matcha outside Japan will be dishonest and do this.

      Matcha falls into two grades: culinary grade and ceremonial grade. Culinary grade is for use in baking because it tastes very strong and won’t lose its flavor even when mixed into other things. Ceremonial grade is meant for drinking on its own or as a latte and is generally more expensive.
      For cases like yours it’s actually recommended you go for the “lower quality” (but still ceremonial grade) teas, as higher quality matcha tends to be milder/more subtle and is meant to be enjoyed on its own. If it costs about $10 for 60-80g that’s the price point you want to look for. Alternatively anything marketed as “matcha for lattes” would probably also fit your needs

      It's actually supposed to smell like that, because the matcha process has a step that consists of covering the green tea leaves with dark clothes to avoid sunlight for a couple of weeks before picking them up from the tree, that makes it increase the chlorophyll and antioxidants, kind of like algae, that process is what makes matcha matcha and different from regular green tea that has less chlorophyll, so yes, expect your matcha to smell/taste a little bit like algae/seeweed.

      Nope. "Ceremonial" grade isn't a real thing. Rhe truth is that these grades don’t exist, at least not in any meaningful way. The companies assign these terms. They are more of a very light guideline.
      matcha is generally thought of in three rough tiers of increasing quality: keiko, usucha, and koicha. Keiko grade is used for practice and lessons, usucha is used for serving thin tea to guests, and koicha for serving thick tea. Confusingly, all three of these very different teas would likely fall under the umbrella of ‘ceremonial grade’ outside of Japan.
      These are what you should focus on. Not the vague grades that differ from company and site
