Though he did not have a much more extended career in Hollywood like many character actors such as Mako and James Hong. The few roles here and there has cemented him as a legend. I can point out Hollywood’s xenophobia or unreluctant acceptance of a Asian Lead. But for the few roles he has had I am grateful.
As much as I wished he had larger roles in Hollywood, maybe his part in destiny was to be the lead in a Best Picture Oscar winning movie that's The Last Emperor. To me, he established his legacy there with a once in a generation film.
The sparkle in his eyes at 19 was amazing! At that time, I was wearing glasses, but now I have had cataract surgery and don't even need contact lenses, but when I saw him after a long time, he was wearing glasses! At the crossroads of his life, he chose Canada 🇨🇦, not the United States or Hong Kong. Was this the result of the worries he had before he became famous? Is he living a peaceful life now?😊❤❤❤❤🌻🌻🌻

Mr john has tough childhood. his life seem to change when he return to china for some acting projects. thereafter, he seem to be in isolation. what really happen to him in china is a mystery. he is one of the best looking asian man imo. I love his role and looks in the last emperor. EPIC!!
Nothing much happened but because of multiple unfortunate events he keeps getting into poorly made films which killed his credibility as an actor a bit. That’s about it

@@lq7312 of course I'm not saying east Asian people have yellow skin tone, it's ridiculous, but most white-american back then are rarely see asian in real life except in movies and sometimes racist media depiction, and while the interviewer skin also somewhat looks yellow but he's a white guy, so people back then would still categories him as white. It's also not only in America actually, I have seen some WW2 italian propaganda pamphlets depicting japanese as their allies but the japanese man's skin looks gold-ish.
