  • Nobody starts using drugs, alcohol, gambling, co-dependency, and other unhealthy patterns of behavior with the end-goal of becoming an addict (of any kind) and destroying our lives. In many - if not most - cases we are seeking answers and solutions to our own suffering through people, places, and things outside ourselves. Also known as 'external reach for inner peace'.
In recovery, it becomes possible to see our past patterns and behaviors as part of our journey, not a part of ourselves to be shunned. It is often heard in the recovery community that pain is a touchstone for spiritual growth. As we recover, some of our most painful moments can become gateways to cultivating and nurturing the ability to find peace, authenticity, and truth from within ourselves.

Thank you for expressing addiction in a most positive light. If we can understand that it is about wanting a sense of belonging gone terribly array
