One thing during primordial follicles the protective cover that cover the oocytes is follicular cell not granular cell.. later on the growing stage under the infulence of (activin ) these follicular cell proliferated and become granular cell. Hope it helps . Over all animation and video is awesome. Thanks tho.

Awesome video, but a couple issues. Even if a woman ovulates for 35 years and loses 28 eggs per month, that only adds up to about 11,000 eggs. You’d have to lose around 950 eggs/month for 35 years to run out. A woman reaches menopause not because she doesn’t have enough eggs, but because of hormonal changes. Also, twins do not result from double ovulation, but rather polyspermy just before the final meiotic division of the oocyte. Other than that, great video!

Nice video! Just 2 things, women are born with 200.000 - 400.000 ovules; and the twins part, it can also happen with just one egg being ovulated. Still, it's a really good video to watch! ;)

Thanks for the video, but there is a problem with this explanation. At 2:44 you said, zona pellucida forms between primary oocyte egg and granulosa cells, but this's wrong. The zona pellucida does not begin to form from the primordial oocyte to primary oocyte stage. The zona pellucida begins to form during the preantral follicle stage, which is after the primary oocyte stage.

6:14 "So you can kind of imagine how you go for 2-4 million eggs when you were born to having zero after 35 years of ovulation. It's not just that one egg you lose at ovulation, you lose quite a few" umm, you mentioned a number of roughly 16 per month. 35 x 16 x 12 = 6720 which would account for roughly 0.1 to 0.3%. No, given your explanation, I can't "kind of imagine" it at all actually.

You failed to mention one of the most important concept is that this cycle occurs to a single follicle in the ovary and that inside of the ovary DOES NOT actually look like this. It is actually composed initially of 400,000 follicles that undergo ALL of these stages and not that oocytes develop at one follicle and magically jump to another and then finally is ovulated as an ovum.

yo... khan academy needs some specific khan my MCAT videos. I know they have their website with the MCAT section but only certain videos are available for certain topics (i.e. this one is essentially it for ovulation). I would rather have a video that gives the NEED to know stuff for MCAT prep. I will never in my life need to know the "cumulus oophorus" unless I am a practicing gynecologist. Rant over, thanks.

    Human creation in Quran
    وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن سُلَٰلَةٖ مِّن طِينٖ
We have created man from an extract of clay.
    (Surah Al-Mu'minun, verse 12)
    ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَٰهُ نُطۡفَةٗ فِي قَرَارٖ مَّكِينٖ
Then We made him a sperm-drop in a firm resting place.
    (Surah Al-Mu'minun, verse 13)
Then We turned the sperm-drop into a clot, then We turned the clot into a fetus-lump, then We turned the fetus-lump into bones and We clothed the bones with flesh; thereafter We developed it into another creature. So glorious is Allah, the Best of the creators.
    (Surah Al-Mu'minun, verse 14)
