Did you know that Geoff always wanted to sound like Chris Cornell but lucky for all of us ended up sounding like Geoff Castellucci.

I am about the same age as this reactor. And appear to have a similar taste in music. My top singers of all-time: Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, and Geoff Castellucci. Geoff is that singer I heard in middle age, of which I didn't know I needed to discover.
Black hole sun was one of the prime examples of amazing grunge/alternative music in the 90s. Such a jam 😊💜💜

Oh man, you had me grooving right along with you. Such a performance from VoicePlay, and I loved how into it you were.
The look of bliss on your face towards the end of the song is perfect.
This is an amazingly complex cover and they somehow make it seem easy.
The project lead on this one is Eli, with assistance from Layne. He also was in charge of VoicePlay's covers of Eleanor Rigby and Creep. His approach to arranging is fascinating.

Although I do love this one, Sleeping in the Cold Below is still the earworm I keep going back to, even after learning all the lyrics and all the different parts. (That usually quiets the earworm). I think it’s the first time I ever said their new song is my second favorite. But I guess it had to happen sometime.

I came back because I've been thinking about what you said - that there are now 5 more possible interpretations in the world. That seems really profound to me. And perhaps, in much-loved songs like this one, the reaction depends, in part, on the individual embrace of what's new (vs looking for comfort in the familiar.) I weigh in heavily on the love of the new, and VoicePlay invigorates me like few others do. They make my ears so happy. And maybe that is, in part, because I'm always listening to catch up with each thread as it appears. I can never anticipate what's next. Layne, Geoff, Eli - all do genius arrangements. But maybe, just maybe, the space they give each voice to show us something new, that matters just as much.
I loved watching your smile grow as it started playing! That's what Voiceplay does! Makes us smile, laugh, cheer and THINK! 💙💙💙💙

One of my favorite versions of "Black Hole Sun" is the one from Norah Jones in the Detroit Fox Theatre May 23, 2017. It's the same theater Chris had played his last concert in just 5 days before. Moving tribute.
The enjoyment in your face and the exclamations are pure joy. The distortion was Geoffs voice modified as far as I can tell. This song pays tribute to the original but doesn’t need to mimic it. Nice one.

And you'd be surprised at how much these guys can distort their voices on their own, but yes, this was edited to add more distortion.

Coincidental that they released black Hole Sun when we had a solar eclipse (black hole sun). I find myself enjoying VPs version of old music I didn't care for the first time around. I like hearing the harmonies and the words not drown out by instrumentation. Great reaction. Thanks.

My father was fluent in Persian (and English, German, and Spanish). Your feed makes me want to learn Arab expressions. Not the full language but things you say. My list is English, Old Norse, Old English, French, German, and Italian. But it was not to speak or hear -- it was to read in the original language. I have also looked at expressions in Latin which I use upon occassion. What languages do you speak?

I still remember how my high school band mates worried that grunge would die along with Kurt Cobain, and mere months after losing him... THIS came out, like Chris Cornell went, "Nah man, the music is here to stay."
Just a FYI to newbies, this is an original Soundgarden song, and it kicked ass. AMR reacted assuming everyone knew this, as he is almost as much as a Cornell fanboi as me. That being said, he may have assumed you knew that this is a kick ass rock song from the 90's. This is an amazing HARD ROCK song, and the fact that these guys can pull this off acapella is amazing. That being said, the original song IS Soundgarden. It IS Chris Cornell, his amazing voice. Let's not forget this, yeah? Just listen:

VoicePlay don't require you to put a filter over their videos. They are independent of any recording company. I don't remember seeing you do it before. I think the guitar sounds are effects done in post.

I was wondering if that’s what he was describing too and had to laugh at the vision of Geoff standing there with a kazoo in his mouth. It’s one of those “instruments” that every parent hates because once the kids get their hands on it you’ve gotta find a way to break it. (One year for Christmas when I was really mad at my ex I sent my son to him with a whole set of noisy “instruments” including a kazoo, slide whistle and harmonica😂!!
