The "fine" elemental stones and such are only available from 2.0 onwards if I recall correctly. So I can't say, I did not play on private servers, neither am I actively playing on NA, I'm only in EU 😄
I honestly can't tell you what designs are good, because I personally only leveled alchemy. But I assume that accessories with fire resist would be selling okay, since you need it for Dark Poeta S-Rank. DP is fairly easy to get, depending on the dungeon you are running, you will max it out 2-3times in one run. However the best/quickest way would be farming guards in the Abyss.

Sadly no, these can only be bought by the crafting merchants.
