Jorphdan kinda topical, I’m playing a weretiger Blood Hunter in a campaign I’m playing in. He was originally a hermit from Chult who worshiped the god of fate. He became cursed with lycanthropy and after a few months decided to try to find a way to either cure it or control it. He had a chance encounter in the port city of nyanzaru telling him of an order in the Sword Coast. He went on a long journey across the ocean to land in the city of Waterdeep where he then made his way to the mountains in the East. There, he was captured by drow and woke up in a prison cell in the underdark with none of his gear and a bunch of people he didn’t know. And that is how my second play through of Out of the Abyss started!
If a Gold (or any) Dragon was somehow (however unlikely) infected with Lycanthropy while in Humanoid form all it would need to do was transform back into it's true Dragon form since Lycanthropy can only affect Humanoids, or use it's legendary resistance . . . . it just would not happen.
Realistic it wouldn't happen. But it would be fun if it did and the effect was whenever the gold dragon polymorphed into a humanoid it was a were creature much to it's chagrin.
I have a friend who likes this channel and loves Werewolves. This is perfect for them. I, too, am happy to be here Ah, Sif from Dark Souls. My bestest fran
I like call these beings “Werefolks”, because Lycan in Lycanthrope specifically refers to wolves, but what I like to believe what happens to the person if that person is immune to the bite, instead of becoming a werefolk, you become an “Abomination”! While still able to transform, but instead of turning into the creature like the werefolk that bit you, you transform into something COMPLETELY different, for example, an abomination from a werewolf’s bite is some sort of lizard -Double D
well that's not right either. apparently "wer", is old english for "man". "lycos" means "wolf" and "anthropos" means "human" in greek. so choose what you like, it's almost the same
wow, so glad you wrote about the "people of the black blood". i read the novel Black Wolf last yer and it combined with the priest novel Mistress of Night are teh two top resoruces in FR novels for werecreatersi think
Jorphdan, could you make a video on cool magic items? I'm looking for some interesting ones for my low level party. A dungeon sampler video would also be really cool. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Having played a true Weretiger in 2e with all the advantages and disadvantages from Van Richten's Guide to Werebeasts, I can say it's a different rp style.
This is basically what happened to the Wolfkin (Homebrew race) Ranger I currently play as in DnD. However, he was bitten and transformed into a Werewolf by a Shadow Wolf Demon instead of an actual Werewolf, so that was really interesting. Granted, my DM and her boyfriend (who helps assist the DM and occasionally interacts with the party as different NPCs) suggested I take on Lycanthropy at some point given my DnD class prior to it actually happening. I took their advice (and picked the Werewolf form as, while it would still be a bit traumatic and frightening as is for my Ranger [he's 17, the average lifespan of a Wolfkin being about 300], it wouldn't physically be as bad as having to change into a completely alternate creature [plus, given we're currently in a place where Lycanthropy is illegal, he could more or less get away with not being seen as a Lycanthrope around others depending on how firm of a grasp he has on retaining his personality in his Werewolf form, full moon or otherwise as well as how many locals notice the key differences between his original form and his Lycanthrope one]), but told them that the teenaged Wolfkin isn't one to take on Lycanthropy willingly and will need to have something planned in which he's forcefully given the curse. I was really excited when it actually happened, and it was a lot of fun seeing almost the whole party's reactions to the change. Looking forward to delving into my Ranger's new Werewolf abilities as well as how it all will affect the campaign as a whole (both combat and roleplay-wise)!
A Wereman or Werewere hear me out. A human hunter cursed that any of his prey that fights back and survives and gets a bite taste of the hunters blood gets the cunning of a human and eventually the shape of a human. It uses these to attack the hunter or if unable or after the hunter is dead to attack other humans! And the ones that a bitten and survive become werecreatures. The cycle of violence continues. I think I just created the best origin story for all were creatures.
I don't really understand why werewolves in this universe are inherently evil, but other creatures such as werebears are good hearted guardians. An animal is an animal.
It might have to do with how people handle having these animal traits. The bear side of a werebear might want to be a fishing hermit in the woods, and be left alone by people, with no desire to eat them. Wolves are carnivorous and hunt in packs, so are more likely to hunt down humans as lycanthropes.
@@shanekayat3217 I'm pretty sure those traits can be exchanged, and it would still be plausible. Wolves are reclusive creatures that actively avoid human contact, while bears have been seen adventuring in cities, binging on trash. Animal behavior is still a foggy science, giving animals evil and good traits is an obsolete habit of the naturalists of old.
Check out *AJ Pickett* he's been doing lore longest & most thoroughly on RUclips. He talks about the origins of them in the main setting, The Forgotten Realms.

Typical lynanthropes are humanoids, even in hybrid form. They should be able to fall prey to even a paltry Charm Person spell. Rather pathetic, really. That anyone sees such inelegant feral savagery as strength is deeply confusing.
@@supersmily5811 of course they are strong i mean look at what they can do when in hybrid form. you misunderstand fellow mage i mean not to control them i mean to pacify, then kill them and raise up their corpses to serve me in undeath! after all a lich's tower is only as strong as the horrors that patrol it....

There are were-wyverns in the Moonshae Isles I believe. To my knowledge there are no (and should not in my opinion) were-creatures who transforms into an intelligent creature, such as a dragon. The purpose of a were creature is to turn into a mindless animal, hence the wolf, rat, bat, bear, tiger, boar, etc. mentioned in this video.
Kyle Graham though a majority of D&D’s Werecreatures are no where near mindless- the wereRat still forms theives guilds and speaks in common and theives cant, the wereTiger doesn’t even change alignment and just becomes territorial, and the wereBear becomes a kind protector of the forest- and they all can still use any weapons with proficiency in hybrid form they are still intelligent- just bloodlusted in wereWolf and wereBoar form specifically
True, but that's the intelligence of the humanoid that was infected coming through in the hybrid form. Affected creatures are picking up the instincts of the were-creature and combining their intelligence with them. Rats/wolves will form packs, with rats being sneakier when trying to get food; wolves may become more aggressive (according to werewolf lore anyway). Bears/tigers are less pack animals and prefer to be left alone; tigers being more aggressive in their tactics than bears. But dragons (true dragons anyway) are considered highly intelligent creatures (with the exception of white dragons). They are not creatures who rely on their instincts in order to survive. Their intelligence allows them to plot and plan. A were-dragon, would not be seen as a curse in my opinion as their intelligence would grow in addition to their other stats.
The only thing that annoys me about this is the name. It should be Therianthropy, not lycanthropy. Lycan means wolf, and lycanthropy is specifically for werewolves. But, that's just a grammar gripe. If you dont know which type of were beast is attacking, it would be better to call them therianthropes rather than lycanthropes so you dont get one thing in your mind only to be ambushed by something completely different.
