Sometimes the cause of bad breath can be related to an unhealthy stomach. Eat your leafy greens, cut down on sugars and keep hydrated with water as your main source of fluid. My confidence was at 0. Looking after my stomach changed all that. It's a simple case of encouraging healthy stomach bacteria, and there are many foods and drinks that can help.

I battled through a very bad breath problem from age 12 until late 20s. I developed great oral hygiene habits in my twenties but somehow nothing was working. Long story but eventually I got swabs of my mouth (tongue, palate, molars) sent to a lab, and I was found to have 5 bacteria infections in my throat and mouth. Several courses of antibiotics later, I'm able to manage it. Just normal morning breath but after brushing, smells normal. Xylotol gum also helps, along with smart mouth mouth wash. Of course you still have to keep up the regular hygiene (brushing, tongue scraping, flossing) to make sure those bacteria don't build up again above the normal threshold. Also, if you have a runny nose and feel it going back down your throat, that can contribute to bacteria build-up too so think about treating postnasal drip. Some also have tonsil stones, that tends to produce the worst of smells

Wearing masks and having to breath our own breath has made me realise my breath is quite normal and tolerable

something I would like to add that most of dental professional missed is Tonsilolith or Tonsil Stone. Not everyone has this, but when one does have it in their tonsil, the breath can be really bad. It won't go away even if you take out all your teeth and tongue.

I think that tonsil stones and food particles that enter the cavities of the tonsil can also cause bad breath.
