I think everyone should start on a dirt bike or dual sport. I started riding and racing dirt bikes at 11 then riding street at 15 but the dirt bike riding, especially on trails teaches you a lot of balance and handling habits that will carry over to street. Now at 55 I enjoy my small dual sport more than any bike I’ve owned

I couldn’t agree with you more. I started riding dirt bikes around 10 or 11, then started riding on the streets at 19. Can’t express how much I’ve learned from just good bike handling that crossed over. Thanks for the comment and thanks for sharing.

I have a building ramp that I do the practice of being stopped on a hill with, it’s outdoor so there isn’t as much oil from cars

Great vid, and I''m always looking forward to the next one.
I practice a few moments of slow speed, U turns, and emergency stops near the beginning of almost every ride as a warm up. For emergency braking, it's also extremely important to train yourself to squeeze the front brake smoothly (though strongly) during practice panic stops. It gives the front forks an extra split second to compress and load the weight of the bike onto the front tire to give the best stopping performance while greatly reducing the risk of locking up the front tire, which I've heard is bad.

Yes good idea to warm up in practice. Honestly after making this video, I’ve told myself I’d want to practice this once in a while just to refresh my brain. Also every bike is different handling and it’s good to get used to how the bike you ride handles. I just haven’t done any of these drills on the bike in the video, so it was a good learning process for me. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Here in Europe the biggest skill you can learn is how to find and empty parking lot to then start practicing anything 😅 I have the same bike 🔥
