To announce the Rose Bowl show, a live broadcast was made on KROQ radio but it was also filmed to report on different television channels.
This I share is a footage of that day (apparently made by some channel), unedited for transmission, which includes the announcement made by Alan, a mini interview for the radio, questions from the media that were there and responses from the band and some clips that they filmed for MTV, all in "behind the scenes" format.
It is super interesting although it is cut at the end ... how much is missing I have no idea because I doubt that it has been broadcast as you see it here.
Depeche Mode in 1988 were:
Alan Wilder
Dave Gahan
Martin Gore
Andy Fletcher

Thank you so much for sharing this gem

No words
Alan is so eloquent. Always loved him in those pleated pants outfits ❤️😍… He elevated DM!!!
I was fortunate enough to attend this concert at the Rose Bowl. At that time, I thought that there is no way they will ever top this…then along came Violator and the World Violation Tour. Great piece of DM history here. Thanks. The Alan years were the best years for DM.
I feel like I wrote your comment ;) I was at the Rose Bowl too, and then when the Violator Tour came I saw them in NY (best concert of my life) and a second time on the Violator Tour with Nitzer Ebb!! 🖤🖤
Alan was just the coolest cat! He was the last missing piece of DM and we'll never forget it.
Get a load of 15:00 when Alan says, "He thinks we're joking." Oooh, biting. This is like behind the scenes of Behind the Scenes, such a treat. Can't stop staring at Alan. Thank you for uploading this footage.
Nice catch
Can't stop staring at Alan....... YES 😵❤️
Nice, I didn't get to see them play live for the first time until their Devotional tour, which was Amazing. Best concert I've ever seen.
alan was nervous! so cuteeeeeeeeeeeee
Alan❤️
Alan 😵❤️
the goth teletubbies of my life
😂😂😂
Alan Martín and Dave fletch were such a powerful light in music history really hope Alan get back for last song before is too late
Andrew Fletcher: Martin's the songwriter, Alan's the good musician, Dave's the vocalist... and I bum around.
Martin: I'm just standing here..
😂👍
14:48 Dave predicting the future of 1993/94 😂🤣
The good old days WITH ALAN.
Real Depeche Mode for me: Dave, Martin, Alan, Andy. The legend!
@@sylwiazablockatatara1237 Those were the golden years
They really didn't treat him well
@@stevechandler4607i have the same thoughts.... it's strange that some of them behave like he is excess 🤕🤕 but they're all still so talented though
@@stevechandler4607 Alan gave 100% and then some, to the band. In an interview, Martin called him a control freak. I no longer listen to any DM music post-Alan.
OMD were great on the whole tour .... really got the crowds warmed up. OMD are still going strong and superb live over 30 years later.
You're so right! I attending the 101 concert and just saw OMD in LA a week ago. They have not lost a step. They put on a superb show and the crowd was really enjoying it. The band really appreciated the reaction from the fans.
I saw this tour in Seattle in 88 as a young teenager. I had never heard of OMD and they were awesome. I remember many people excitedly in the line saying they came for OMD just as much as Depeche. Great times
Omg Daveeeeeee!!!! I died n im in heaven watching him💋💋💋💋😍😍😍😍😍😍😘😘😘
I was there with my best friend, 8th row center stage on the field. We stood in line at Ticketmaster for 2 days and paid a whopping $90 per ticket at Ticketmaster, which was a lot of money back then and for a 16 year old. It was worth evrything because it was a absolutely amazing show in every way. The supporting acts were so good, OMD, Wire, and Thomas Dolby and the energy of the 60,000 people there was amazing.
it's an amazing experience!!! wish i were there🤕
My God!!! Dave!! 😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you. I wish I could have been there. Would love to have David Gahan's jacket!
Fascinating to see the whole clip. It's obvious Alan was the one they all looked up to judging by him being the designated adult who would do the announcement and Martin's adoring expression every time Alan speaks. For me, this era was the last time when DM were DM. Next, it was the cheesy guitars and the flirting with being a blues rock band which felt a bit like a betrayal to me.
It’s no wonder these guys kept going for so long. They ran their band like it was a business and had great teamwork.
A time when music was alive
Andrew Fletcher ❤️
Oh my god!
I didn’t know Richard Blade was a huge car guy!!!
(Seriously. This is so badass.) thank you!
I love that Dave's daughter is now Stella
@Peruchipac it's funny coincidence how the presenter asked Dave to say hi to someone called Stella, and his Daughters name is now Stella too!
Stella ROSE 😂
Thanks so much for sharing this!
This is beautiful interview ❤ Depeche mode is the best group on the full world❤
Creo que en este video se observa claramente que alan no soportaba que no los tomaran en serio...en el momento de la entrevista oyó risas y se vé el enfado en su cara.
Thank you Depeche Mode. I really enjoyed this. I was Blessed enough to have been at this show. I laughed when you brought up Perkins Palace as well. What a lovely interview that brought up fond memories. Also mentioning Poor Man from KROQ made me laugh. I modelled with my friend Cheryl Berkoff for KROQ with Poorman on our laps and ping pong pattles. Cheers
History being made!
Never seen this full version before! Thank you for posting! VG :-)
wow! Awesome footage. Music history
I am crying, really. Please I need a time machine! Take me there! 😭
… we want our Depeche Mode back before a next member is gone forever ❤️❤️❤️🖤
Mi favorita banda DM .................. saludos de Perú...

Hard to believe up to this they were only playing arenas , that changed on the violator tour onwards to present -albeit their last great album was ultra

15:34 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you for providing this piece of history. Where the hell did you find it ?
There's a lot of gems in our forum. Link in description 😊
Dave gahan was really a look alike of Shia Labeouf at that time
20:13 I've heard about this, thank you 😊, I may have been too young to remember all this info but ... cool 🆒️ 😎 besides I think remember that version of Route 66 a lot 😀... that's all for now 😀.
Belle époque, j'adore, dommage qu'il n'y a pas le sous-titrage en Français !
Who is that guy with mustache who pushed Dave to the mic at 6:20 I couldn’t recognize him?
Cheers for this incredible upload. If I were to use this press conference for a college presentation on 80s music, how would I reference it, (i.e. broadcast date, network)? Thanks if you can help.
как давно это было..........
время летит беспощадно
14:53 he thinks you're joking
D.A. Pennebaker: “Depeche Mode seemed such an un - do - able film, [but] these four guys, they couldn’t have been nicer. They hadn’t an idea in the world between ‘em, but they’d figured out how to make a lot of money with a tape recorder off - stage. They had one guy, Alan, who’s not even with them anymore, who’s a really good musician. Then they had this incredible genius - from - outer - space, who could write these songs; then they had David! And the other guy. You had to love ‘em, but what kind of film would that make? So we cooked up this funny idea of getting these fans to get on a bus, and … it worked. We couldn’t believe it!”
Jonathan Miller. Stripped. I Depeche Mode
I don't remember the band member on the left. lol
17:14 😂
Depeche before Violator!!🤘🏿💛😋
Never knew the Shermanator was in the band
Эх молодость...куртку давно не одевал
✨✨😍😍😍😍😍😍🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏
got free tickets from poor man for donating canned foods.
I see Alan is close to Dave rather than with Martin and Andy.
That was then 😢
Дэйв как дурачок какой-то позади. Жвачка эта и хлопки.
Вот уж блин шапито..
Засчет него разряжается атмосфера. Трое - зажатые интеллектуалы, погруженные в себя.
