Discovering Cape Carvoeiro in Peniche in Portugal

The perimeter surrounding Cape Carvoeiro (Peniche) shows a landscape dominated by a succession of limestones and similar rocks. The exceptional exposure conditions of the outcrop allow for continuous and detailed observation of the sedimentary record, capable of reconstructing the geological history of that temporal compartment that occurred in Portugal. It is a place of great heritage value (geological and landscape), with a wide variety of heavily eroded limestone cliffs and lapiá fields.
To the west you can see the small Berlengas archipelago, integrated into a terrestrial and marine natural reserve.
In the nearby Gruta da Furninha, traces of human occupation dating back to prehistoric times were found.
