Interesting.... this has been my "secret sauce" tuning since the late 1970s, although I never used any kind of pitch measuring device other than my own ears and the open "A" string on a tuned guitar as a reference pitch. I figured this out all on my own. It wasn't a tip I picked up from somewhere else. It was the result of my trying gazillions of different pitch combinations on top and bottom heads, and this was the one that sounded the best. Anyway, you got it, and I totally approve! I guess the secret's out now...
Another big worship drummer mentioned that you want the reso head of the snare to be TTT, Table top tight. I cannot wait to get my tunebot in and get this worship drum set tuned up to the best they have ever heard. The church I joined last year has never had a dedicated drummer for being as big as they are, and I have finally pulled out their maple Gretsch drumset they had sitting in storage. Ordered all new heads and the tunebot. Thank you for these vids!
Greetings, could you share the tuning frequencies with me? We have a 6-piece Ludwing evolution drum set. 10, 12 tom and flower tom, 14, 16, plus snare and 22”. What would be a good tuning for the ship? Could you send me the top and bottom head frequencies for each drum?
Yes I recommend turning the snare wires off, and then put a towel or something to dampen the batter head side and then you can hear the resonant side pitches more clearly
I’ve got another video where I tune a 6.5 14 snare That has all the setting in it too!! “Achieving the perfect balance: tuning Ludwig black beauty hand hammered snare drum 🎯 🎶”
Can someone help, I have the tunebot v2, every time I tap the reso head it gives me 120hz, 400hz, 54hz 119hz etc and I’m tapping in the same spot. I don’t know which one is right
Make sure the opposite head is not active. Lay it down on a pillow or something. Put a very small piece of moongell or lightly touch the center of your drum head. You’re hearing overtones. Sometimes helps to use a mallet instead of a stick.

Why do gospel drummer’s tune to a thud. If you didn’t have 30 or 40 strand wires it would sound like a tom. You’re almost an octave variation between heads. Then deaden it with a ring. PLEASE don’t think I’m criticizing just trying to know why?

Awesome video!! Can't wait to hear how you do the toms!
Thanks so much!!!
what about the snare beds? I tend to leave them in a lower pitch to avoid bending the rim into the beds
Great sound! Thank you for your videos🙏
Really like that, nice. Keep it up! Could you make a mixing tutorial? Sounds awsome.
Possibly!
You also have a really deep snare 14 x 8 so that contributes to the sound.
Totally agree, that’s why this tuning is designed for bigger shell drums like 14x8
What a great video ❤❤❤🎉🎉
Thank you! Glad that you like it
Dude sick! I need to get me a tune-bot
Yes you do!!! Best investment
Also, makes tuning way easier
bro you should do a mixing tutorial on how you achieved that mix tone.
Will do!
@@Theryanprim please
Just a quick question; when you did the bottom with snare, did you put the snares off?
Yes, when you tune the reso, throw the snares off. Put your stick under the wires from rim to rim to keep the snares wires off of your head.
Yes I recommend turning the snare wires off, and then put a towel or something to dampen the batter head side and then you can hear the resonant side pitches more clearly
I'm curious - would this work for a 14x5.5 snare?
Absolutely 💯
Awesome!!
Thanks for watching!
Great video my dude!
Hey Ryan. How do you get rid of those annoying overtones and extra resonance you don’t need on your snare drum?
I use a Remo Richie Ring or moonjels
@@Theryanprim cheers brother
Which should be for snare 14 x5.5?
Thanks

could you show us how you mix the drums?
For sure I’ll have to make one
What about the raw sound with this tunning
Give me a shout on Instagram and I’ll send you a raw video! @theryanprim
Wowww cool, but my question is the measurement on tune bot is for center head or the edges?
For the edges about 3 inches from each lug
@@Theryanprim thanks man, it really helpful😁

Does the head matter? I can't get this done with my existing head.
I would recommend a Remo coated P77 or a Remo Powerstroke 4 coated.
If you can’t find a Powerstroke 4 coated w/ the Dot, get a dot-less one and buy one of Aquarian’s DuraDOT stick-on dampeners for the center 👍🏻👍🏻
@@rickmatthewjones that's also a great idea!!

This is the modern sound for gospel style worship music that a lot of the drummers use.
You don’t need to move the tune bot while tuning
You’re absolutely right! You can tune it from the same spot no problem. I just like to double check. 🤘🏼
