I just bought my 6 Sapphire almost two weeks ago on 1st June 2020 and I can't tell how amazed I am about it! It has lots and lots of options and with the Garmin Connect + Connect IQ there is tons of information and options! To mention the weight of the watch, I also don't find it too heavy (that was my concern before when I was checking out), but with weight of 82 grams doesn't disturb me at all, so I am very happy about it! Overall, I can only advise anyone to buy it! Since 2014 I was using the Garmin Triathlon model 910XT and ran about 8000km with it, biking, swimming and other stuff and it still works fine, so I can say that I consider Garmin as a very quality product! Thanks for a nice review and keep up the good work!
Finally, after weeks of looking around, I've got a good eBay offer for the Fenix 6 Sapphire at $480. Can't wait to get it. Thanks for all your videos, they really helped a lot
@@DesFit I really appreciate this too. I'm surprised/disappointed by the damage to the 5+ Ti casing, though, and notice you went with SS this time. Was that in part because of durability? (I'm looking at upgrading from a 5 SS; trying to decide btw 6 SS or 6 Ti)
If there was a way for Garmin to consider adding a touchscreen without sacrifice to the fully durable watch, that would be amazing imo. Being able to use the pushers is great... but implementing a touch screen definitely makes it faster. In the event where sweating may possibly be an issue on input people can always use the pushers for function.
Hey man; I’m putting together a short, informal huddle with my coworkers at REI about our fitness watches and your videos have been wonderfully informative. I’m definitely pointing any interested coworkers towards your channel. I appreciate what you’re doing. Keep fighting the good fight :)
If you look at the back of the Fenix 6 Sapphire box (like at 1:38), why does it show the case size as 46mm when the Garmin web site says the Fenix 6 Sapphire is 47mm? Which is accurate?
Awesome video, super informative! I'm sporting a Fenix 5S right now; I really hope Garmin will update the watch software so that Fenix 5 series will have the battery saving modes too.
I’ve got the Fēnix 5X plus right now, I’m looking at all of the reviews to see if it’s worth upgrading right now...but that larger screen is certainly tempting. Thanks for all your reviews.
@@adityarastogi5420 lol I since upgraded to the Fenix 6X solar shortly after I commented on this video. I like the features if the new 7X solar…although it’s sold out everywhere so it may be a bit before I can get my hands on one!

DesFit Thank you for this great video! Is there a noticeable speed increase when loading routes on the map compared to the Fenix 5 Plus? On my Fenix 5 X Plus it sometimes takes 5 minutes or even longer.
Its pretty frustrating how Garmin hold back software features just to make you pay more money. An example is this watch, an already very expensive watch, can only show 6 data fields in activities but the 6X Pro and 6X Pro Solar can show 8. Correct me if I'm wrong but the screen is the same size and it runs the same software. Is there any reason why this couldn't show 8 data fields? I bought the 6S base model because it was $400 NZD off at a local shop and I'm stoked with it but I find it kind of insulting that they only give you 2 pretty lame watch faces to chose from in a watch that normally retails at $1099 NZD. Don't get me wrong, I like the watch but I think its very expensive if you pay full price and considering the base model only has 3Mb of storage space, 2 pretty lackluster watch faces, no maps, no music storage etc. It seems like a bit of a price gouge. Can someone explain to me why Garmin watches are so expensive? An apple watch series 6 is $350 NZD cheaper and has 32gb of internal storage, a waaaaay more powerful CPU, can do hands free siri, has a much more attractive OLED display etc. The only downside is battery life and I suppose the Garmin watches are more accurate with GPS? Is that why they're so expensive? Honestly, if someone could enlighten me I would be appreciative.
The screen sizes aren't the same as you claim. The 6s models are 1.2", the 6x are 1.4", so I assume it's simply a scale decision why one can run 6 and the other 8.
Thanks, this was really helpful. It would be nice to have a quick overview of what the buttons do and which ones you are pressing - for newbies to Garmin / don't have one.
It's interesting that just yesterday the MARQ series get system update and have the same futures. (Of course no solar power appear ;D ) Still cool the system update come so soon after presenting Felix 6.

The fenix will have power meter support, more sport profiles, as well as more premium materials, but that’s not to say that the FR245 isn’t a capable watch, because it does have a lot for the money.

On these new top/bottom fields on the 6 screen layout where we can now see the heart rate zones, does it work for power zone as well?
Another reviewer found what i think it a huge game changer when choosing between pro and sapphire and I’m curious if others are able to replicate his findings? When using the backlight in a dark environment (night time) on the pro vs sapphire, the difference is almost as big as between LCD and Oled screens. The pro is totally washed out with the familiar blue hue from past fénix watches while he sapphire has has very deep, almost Oled quality blacks,.
Thanks for the video, could you confirm whether the Garmin apps properly sync to Apple Activity and Health apps. I’m looking to switch from iWatch but use iPhone. Research suggests they don’t interstate very well!
I went from a 5x sapphire to a 6x sapphire. The screen is much larger, and a big upgrade. Every smartwatch maker should really look at Garmin as the market leader. Their watches look like watches and the charging with GPS turned off is infrequent enough (4-6 weeks) that a Garmin watch really has no downsides/compromises vs. a traditional watch, and gives you notifications that make it worth wearing in today's smartphone era.
Great review on this product. Im seriously thinking of buying this watch. U mostly do cycling and hill walking. One thing I would like to know is can you link the Garmin speed and cadence sensors to the watch?
Yup, this watch actually can pair to pretty much any external sensor out there: HRM, speed/cadence, power meters, varia radar and lights, inReach devices, tempe sensors, etc... Thanks!
This was the best review on the Fenix 6 yet, I am definitely subscribing, thank you for the in depth View of all the applications it gave me an idea of how the Fenix 6 is different from the Fenix 5. Once again, thank you!
How could I use this watch cycling on “known” paved trails? Also, is there a way to get a cadence readout? I f I wanted to explore new areas, would this watch give me cycling specific maps, routes? Will it automatically know what my best heart rates should be depending on my cycling goals, i.e. weight loss, or, power improvement? Thank you in advance, this would be my first purchase of watch like this. I’m back into cycling head on after a five year hiatus. I need all the help I can get to get back in shape. Very nice review, I just need a little more in-depth information to convince myself that this might be a good tool to add.
Hey, Des, quick question for you, I have the 6x pro solar and had 5x plus before and like everybody else love to see all the stats like vo2 max and pulseox, now also respirations etc, but I’m contemplating getting Instinct tactical for work and deployments as a second watch as it’s more durable and I wouldn’t have to worry about scratching it. My only concern is the fact that it’s missing both things mentioned above, I feel like I’d miss them lol do you think vo2 max and pulseox are a huge impact on stats or what is your opinion on my situation? Thank you.
Hey, I've left a comment/question before and really appreciated the feedback! I'm a runner who's gotten back in better shape the past few months as well as started assistant coaching XC and Distance Track at my alma mater. Since getting back into the groove of everything, I've had the idea to start a run club/group in my city. So my questions(finally lol) are do you have any suggestions or ideas on how I should go about starting one? As well as if I do start getting numbers, what would be a nice, basic, affordable watch I could reccomend to some newer runners that would be the biggest help for them? Love the page and videos and would very much appreciate any feedback you could offer! :)
Which of the Firstbeat fitness features are actually useful? Which do you use regularly? I'm getting FOMO while considering having the vivoactive 4 over the fenix
As always, awesome “unboxing” review! Is the wrist heart rate monitor accurate “enough” or do you recommend to buy the chest monitor as well. I will be using it mainly for Hiking and HIIT. Thanks!
Thanks! A bit more than just an unboxing ;) Hiking would probably be fine but HIIT I would definitely recommend a chest HR. I’ve tested chest vs arm for HIIT/weight training and even external arm HR can be thrown off by the varying movements.
DesFit ...Thanks for the prompt reply! Sorry, I forgot to ask if I can use my “old” POLAR chest HR with the Garmin...or do I have to use the Garmin one?! Thanks
Awesome review! I always look for accurate-objective reviews before acquiring something. I hope you get more views in the future... sincerely, a fit geek!
@@ericmills1212 I went out and bought one today. Fenix 6X Pro Solar. I like it so far. We'll see how the glass pans out. Best Buy Geek Squad may earn it's keep. Lol
Hey Des I’m a big fan of the channel, thanks for all the great information you provide. I had a question, I’ve been considering a Fenix 6 Sapphire for a long time but am now considering maybe the 945 instead. I mainly run roads and a little trail running, and road bike. Occasionally hiking while camping. The Apple Watch isn’t quite getting the job done especially on camping trips. If you could only get one for all activity and all day wear(including business attire) which one would you recommend? Thanks
The Fenix 6 (no maps)/6 Pro/945 provide similar functionality and with that in mind I'd consider durability. I have scratched Gorilla Glass before on some bad crashes, but if you're a bit more careful than myself ;) Gorilla Glass would probably be just fine. I've had the 945 since before launch and it's nearly perfect. Thanks a bunch!
Any idea the scratch resistance of the sapphire vs gorilla glass that is in the solar versions? I'm thinking about getting a 6x plus solar titanium and was wondering about the scratch resistance of the gorilla glass. Also, any idea if a screen protector would interfere with the solar capabilities of the glass? Thanks in advance!
Can't wait to get it! But I just wanted to ask: Do you think it's safe to buy it as soon as they release it (it's not released in my country yet) or should I wait some time? I'm worried about some possible problems with it since it is brand new.
Tom you should be ok now mate. I think it is the best time to but. Price dropped after Christmas I managed to get 6 Pro for less than 500 I wish also recommended to try get second hand for much less. I have mine just for few days but I like it a lot. Just remember to update software. I initially done it via app but found out that you need to do it in the watch settings. Good luck
You think it’s worth upgrading from Fenix 5. I was interested in the addition of accident detection and a few other features mine currently does not have. I MTB and accident notifications are relevant. Thanks
Hi, just wondering about the Indoor Track mode if it can be used for condominium carpark running? I was using the regular Run Mode with gps and the map didn't look right. I guess no gps in carpark but just gonna try Indoor Track mode if it works ok.
Is there any way to go from one activity to the next without having to stop and start? E.g. when I go to the gym I use the rower for 5-10mins to warm up, then weights/strength training and then stretches. On my old Apple watch I could just hit the "+" button to go onto the next activity without stopping but I cant see an option to do that on this watch (I have the Fenix 6s). Any help would be appreciated.
Great video! Is the HR sensor updated? I would assume so as the one in Fenix 5 is pretty old now. Would love to hear your comments on the HR accuracy compared to the Fenix 5 😊
I talked with Garmin technical support and asked about 5x and 6x bands being able to work and they told me they will work. I'm pretty sure as long as the band says the same mm 5x and 6x are 26mm bands. Here's the phone number for Garmin support 800-800-1020 you can ask them to find out for sure.
Hi, I can tell your saphire glass is intact after crashes and whatnots along the way. I just bought the pro solar fenix 6 and I am wondering if the display, being that it is not saphire will withstand abuse like your fenix 5x or my fenix 3 saphire did. I know you´ve gotten a look at the 6 solar. Do you have any idea?
Got a question DesFit. I actually ordered the exact same watch that you unboxed. I’m thinking about changing the order to the 6X Solar watch. In your opinion is that a must have feature? Thanks in advance and you do remarkable job on your videos and reviews. Love viewing them.
Thanks! If you’re going to be doing multi day adventures without carrying a battery pack, sure, it could be nice but if you’re using it in normal GPS mode which nets you an extra 6 hours in ideal sunlight conditions and then up to 3 days if you’re not using GPS. But for me personally, battery life has never really been an issue with Garmin devices.
DesFit Thanks.... that definitely answers my question. I’ll skip the solar edition and stick with what I ordered. Battery should be a huge upgrade from the 645M I currently own. I really appreciate you getting back to me so quickly. I’ll look forward to your Fenix 6 full review.
Great video, very well presented. One guestion though. Does the heart rate monitor work as it should as I've seen a lot of complaints about it on Amazon? People say that the heart rate monitor doesn't work and most of the complaints are about that. This has been said about the Fenix 5 Plus and 6 Pro. Could you please let me know if you've noticed such things and what could cause the watch to possibly fail as it's quite a pricey item and I'm currently thinking of purchasing either the 5 Plus or 6 Pro? Thanks in advance
It all depends on the type of activity that you are doing. It does well for running, road biking, indoor cycling, and most steady state cardio, but has more challenges with stuff like weight training and HIIT. However, the same can be said for nearly all wrist based HR sensors. The Apple Watch Series 4 and 5 have the most accurate wrist HR sensors on the market and Garmin is close behind.
@@DesFit ok that makes sense actually. I feel more confident now, but still £560 is quite a lot for the 6X pro :D... which is probably the watch I'm gonna go for anyway so.. Thank you for the instant reply. I'm now binge-watching your videos as they are so informative, well presented and structured
Thanks for the review! I would like to ask you two questions. 1. Is the Fenix 6 PRO Sapphire's display more scratch resistant than the Fenix 6 Power Glass? If so is this a significant difference? 2. Is the sapphire display a bit darker compared to Power Glass or normal glass? Many thanks for your anwer. best, Juraj
I always enjoy your videos Des, very high quality! Do you think we will see also something new (successor to 9 Baro) from Suunto this year? Cheers from Switzerland
Thanks for the video! Help me a little bit but I'm still kind of confused on which watch I want to get. I've been looking at three Suunto watches, and two Garmins. I don't really know what to get. I was hoping this video with shed some light and give me feedback. I don't really need a watch for exercising and doing all that stuff I just need to watch for GPS when I'm in the backcountry. Between the Suunto traverse alpha, Suunto 9 baro, and their new Suunto 7... Then the Garmin Fenix watches. I have no idea what to get...
Ian Downes I was always drawn to the Suuntos a little more. Early 2000s military will do that. But the newer Suuntos are lacking one feature, as far as I can tell. The ability to create a new POI and navigate to it, while in the field (or backcountry). I believe you can only save your location in the field. If you want to create a random POI, you have to do it in movescount. This is one crucial area where the garmin crushes the suunto. You can add a new POI easily on the watch. No app required. I think that is a big reason why Tier 1 military, and military in general, have been leaning towards garmin the last 5 years. I had the same prob as you. Just wanted to help, if i can!
How is the HR accuracy compare to an apple watch 4 or 5? I am especially interested during a gym workout since the Apple Watch seems to be the only one that doesn't struggle at reading a HR. My Vivoactive 3 sucks at it.
The new UI interface enhancements are nice. Screen is also a noticeable difference with a smaller bezel. Feature-wise, although it does add some stuff like Training Load Focus and Heat/Altitude Acclimation, it’s not a drastic difference. Thanks!
I have only done 2 activities on it and as usual, I didn’t call this video a review because I just haven’t had enough time with it yet. I hope it works out for you.

Hey, thanks for this. What is the watchface on Fenix5plus watches at 2:42, please?
Thanks
What's that sunrise sunset widget is that exclusive to this watch or from the Iq app?
Awesome review! I always look for accurate-objective reviews before acquiring something. I hope you get more views in the future... sincerely, a fit geek!
Thanks a bunch!!
any word on how strong the solar screen is? I'm wanting the solar, but i'm afraid to give up my Saphire glass. what do you think?
@@ericmills1212 I went out and bought one today. Fenix 6X Pro Solar. I like it so far. We'll see how the glass pans out. Best Buy Geek Squad may earn it's keep. Lol
Thanks for video
Sure thing
Good Video
Will u review polar ignite addressing daily calorie burn overestimation?
Hey Des
I’m a big fan of the channel, thanks for all the great information you provide.
I have several sapphire glass watches, they don't scratch. No comparison, Gorilla glass is junk compared to sapphire, even mineral glass is tougher.
Does the watch show the distance from an indoor activity (cross trainer or indoor bike) when you manually enter it in the app after the activity?
THE FENIX 6X Sapphire when turn on the backlight does it have blue tint issue? And for kick boxing which setting workout i can use?
Is there any way to go from one activity to the next without having to stop and start? E.g. when I go to the gym I use the rower for 5-10mins to warm up, then weights/strength training and then stretches. On my old Apple watch I could just hit the "+" button to go onto the next activity without stopping but I cant see an option to do that on this watch (I have the Fenix 6s). Any help would be appreciated.
Great video! Is the HR sensor updated? I would assume so as the one in Fenix 5 is pretty old now. Would love to hear your comments on the HR accuracy compared to the Fenix 5 😊
The gen 3 HR sensor mainly adds the SPO2 sensor, but the actual HR accuracy is about the same.
hi Des, whats the name of the watch face on your 5 Plus
Can you show the updated golf color map. Is it similar to the s60?
Even though the battery should last at least a decade, can you get it replaced when it does eventually die?
Hi!
Does the same quick fit bands work for both watches?
Those new nylon bands look cool and wondering if they would fit the 5 plus.
Is the HR monitor accurately while swimming in the water?
Does training load work for indoor running/cycling? I think a F5 I had did not give me this data for indoor workouts.
Is this the same internals as the 6pro for the sapphire? Is sapphire worth it?
@@gregorypuryear387 also looks like solar doesn't come with sapphire glass
Hi . Could you make a review of the new garmin swim 2 ? Thanks
I actually already filmed the review but I messed up on the audio. Hoping to refilm it soon! Stay tuned!
@@DesFit ok . I am looking foward to it ...
Thanks
If they could incorporate solar panel too, that would be great!
I like the design of the fenix 6 more then the 7... If the 6 would have a touchscreen I would prefer it over the 7
Thanks for the review! I would like to ask you two questions.
1. Is the Fenix 6 PRO Sapphire's display more scratch resistant than the Fenix 6 Power Glass? If so is this a significant difference?
2. Is the sapphire display a bit darker compared to Power Glass or normal glass?
Many thanks for your anwer.
best,
Juraj
I always enjoy your videos Des, very high quality! Do you think we will see also something new (successor to 9 Baro) from Suunto this year? Cheers from Switzerland
Thanks! I’m not sure about Suunto.
Thumbs up 👍
Thanks!
The Apple Watch Series 4 or 5 will have a better HR sensor for gym workouts.
Would you suggest Fenix 6 sapphire in 2024? For a similar specs 2024 models is way overpriced imho.
Wish I could find one of those new Fenix 6 bands for my 5X
bands are 100% compatible with 5x and even fenix3
Hi Guys and proud owners :) May I ask where Garmin Fenix 6 are made? Thank You. Petr
Hey Des, great vid as always. Cut to the chase dude, I’ve got a Fenix 5 + is the 6 worth the upgrade? Thanks chief. Keep up the great work.
The new UI interface enhancements are nice. Screen is also a noticeable difference with a smaller bezel. Feature-wise, although it does add some stuff like Training Load Focus and Heat/Altitude Acclimation, it’s not a drastic difference. Thanks!
DesFit Ordered, pick up tomorrow. I’ll hold you responsible if its pants 😂😂
I have only done 2 activities on it and as usual, I didn’t call this video a review because I just haven’t had enough time with it yet. I hope it works out for you.
I’m sure it will. Keep up the great work
