Nice makes! I make a lot of DBP. I make la Bella Donna from Love Notion . It’s a simple dolman sleeve tshirt. It’s all done on the serger. I do use a coverstitch for the hem and binding. I found my Juki coverstitch hates DBP. It is ok when I use stretch needles in size 14. However my new Baby lock cover stitch sews it like a dream. Crazy how different machines react to different fabric thpes
That green looks great on you!! Glad you’re having such a lovely time on holiday! That pool video was hilarious!!! You know I’m totally on board for anything quilting related 😂😂
So good to hear that you are enjoying your vacation, spending time with family is so precious 😊. Congratulations on your new job position 👏👏. I am sure your daughter will love the pretty shirt you made for her. I am not a quilter (yet), just garment sewing for now 😉😉.
I sewed clothes many moons ago then quit. Then I started quilting about twelves years ago. Now I’m getting back into garments but will still work on quilts with my group. I just like stitching. Love your videos. Very practical and encouraging. Thanks so much.
Wow - your path with sewing is pretty identical to mine! You said it perfectly - we just like stitching! And I love being able to switch between garments, quilts and bags. Thank you so much for watching and for leaving such as sweet comment!
Hello Izzy I enjoy your videos, what have I been sewing this week? Well my eight year old granddaughter is on school holidays. We made a very large teddy bear 😅 I was able make one and showed her what to do for her own so that’s two, one for her little sister. Also we made your first quilt square in your tutorial. It was fun and she enjoyed doing it herself. I enjoy dressing making and quilting.
What fun for you & your granddaughter. The quilt blocks y'all can add to and when she leaves home she will have a wonderful quilt to remind her how much she is loved. I am going to try that idea for my grandson. Boys can sew too!😎
I have to make that exact adjustment. I didn't even think it had a name. I've been using the book, Pants for Real People by Palmer/Pletsch for fitting help. I was a quilter but then started sewing clothes again.
Hi Izzy. Your videos are very good and I enjoy them. I am a garment sewer only. I especially like to see what you sew for yourself and your family. I do like seeing your finished quilts as they are beautiful.
The color you’re wearing looks gorgeous on you, Izzy! 🤩 Marianne’s top is so lovely! I love the design and the fabric! Congrats on your new position at work! You deserve it! Looking forward to seeing your swimsuit and quilt! Love the family time in the pool! 💗
Love all 3 of your makes! I get excited when we have bad weather, it gives me time to sew without feeling guilty. Love the top for Marian. I feel the same about dabble brush Polly. It helps if you put toilet paper and sew through it. Have fun with the rest of your holidays! Good luck with the swim suit.
You’ve had such a fabulous week off 🤗 Congratulations on the new position! I feel the same way about animals and circuses (and “zoos” that do zero real conservation or rehabilitation). The video at the end was so sweet; Brady came running over when she heard the kids saying, “I NEED to see them!” I’m a quilter, but one that has been VERY distracted by only garments and bags over the past 6 months or so….. I’m excited to see how you quilt the Pulse quilt!
Awww Brady is so adorable!! I’ve also been VERY distracted with garment making but I’m really happy to get back to quilting a little bit more this year. I missed it. Also, it’s really nice to not have to worry about fitting anything. 🤣
I have a Style Arc Hope cut out all ready to go! Not a quilter, but could be persuaded to try! We’ve had tremendous storms here in Omaha, 90 mph winds in my part of town with electricity out and tree debris everywhere. A limb hit our garage but my husband says minimal damage. It’s flooding around here but I’m on high ground. It’s heartbreaking to see people’s farms, livestock and homes destroyed.
I really love the Hope Dress! A tree limb falling on your garage is scary!! It really is heartbreaking to see people’s livelyhood and homes destroyed by Mother Nature. 😢
I've recently returned to dressmaking after many years quilting. I wasn't very good at the actual quilting so had some professionally quilted and tied some and straight stitched others. I've only made a skirt this week which is a wearable toil ,which I'm happy with. I am planning to cut out another paterna blouse and a pair of trousers this weekend. (fingers crossed) x
Sounds like you have a similar path to mine in terms of sewing. When I returned to garment making a few years back, I was so pleased to see all the indie pattern designers (I could never get Big 4 patterns to fit me properly) and all the online help and communities. It’s just lovely!! Good luck with your blouse and trousers this week!
So many people are saying they also have that! I did a little investigating this morning and it looks like the adjustment is really easy. Just take a little bit of length off in the front only tapering to nothing at the side seams. I think I’m going to try that with some shorts I’m planning for July.
Hi Izzy. I've been off the air for a while so it was so nice to catch up with what's going on in your sewing room and life. I haven't ever sewn with double brushed poly and you've made me think I should continue to avoid it, but Marianne's top looks lovely. I've been trying to perfect trousers for years and still haven't got it exactly right. I also need a shorter front rise than back rise and usually cut a horizontal line across the front pattern piece, overlap the amount to shorten at Centre Front but keep the side seam as is (if that makes sense). Good luck with your new role.
It makes perfect sense and I read something very similar to that yesterday. I’m definitely going to give this a try with a pair of shorts very soon. Very nice to « see » you Fiona! 😊
Cute top for your daughter. Sorry you had problems with stitching it though it sounds like you did all the things. My waist is lower in front so i curve the front piece. Then try it on to see how it hangs, adjust pleats and see that the sides hang perpendicular then finish. I quilt but also alter clothing and like to watch all you new sewists( on utube) to stay updated on tips. Your channel opened a whole new door of pattern companies id never heard of ! Tyfs💓and enjoy the rest of your vacation. 😊
Thank you so much! I'm hoping that once I have a pair of pants that fit me really well, I'll be able to use that to make adjustments to all similar styles. So many things to consider and think about with pants fitting!
I should be a quilter by now - I have fabric I've been accumulating, magazines, books, rulers, etc., and even an Accu-Quilt purchased over two years ago that I haven't taken out of the box! Too many other things in the way. I do make small projects with quilting fabric and batting such as placemats, coasters and potholders, so I'm gearing up for bigger things, right 😄? In fact, I just mailed our nephew a box of mug mats and microwave bowl cozies and am so glad to have finished that project - now I can start something else - I was very happy to make them for him and his family, but it did take longer than I thought it would...great video - the fence by the pool is so cute!
I love making small quilted things like placemats and coasters. When I first started quilting, I jumped right in and made a bed sized quilt with nothing but scissors and my sewing machine. It was the ugliest quilt, but I was so proud. I learned about things like rotary cutters and mats, etc later. All that to say, everyone’s journey will be different! Make a bigger quilt when you’re ready and have the time!
I am a newbie garment sewer however, I have made on beginner friendly quilt. My plans are to make a quilt out of the scrap cotton I use from my garmets.
Hi Izzy, congrats on your promotion. Marianne's t-shirt looks lovely. Glad you've had a lovely week off. This week I am making a TATB Lyra dress (1st one). I am mostly a dressmaker and bag maker. I have almost made one quilt (small) and am following your sample block QAYG. I was a bit behind so have done the blocks but not the quilting yet will try and start that this week. (I am retired should have loads of time)😅
I love the Lyra dress. Unfortunately, the TATB block doesn't seem to fit me at all so I've given up on them. Everyone I speak to who is retired seems to be busier than I am! LOL
Hi Izzy, you inspired me to try the Avenir jumpsuit, so I'm halfway through that at the moment. I make garments (some of them are even successful) and also quilts and quilted things. I have started your quiltalong which is challenging me to quilt in different ways as I only did straight lines before! Congratulations on your promotion and good luck on your first day! 🙂
Thank you so much! You’ll have to let me know how the Avenir turns out. I love my two! I quilted in straight lines for a long time and then decided to try free-motion. After a few years of practice, I now prefer FMQ.
So glad you have had such a good and productive week. Huge congrats on your expanded role- I am sure you will be amazing!! As you know, I am clothes obsessed so not a quilter. I will complete your quiltalong series ( not soon😂😂😂😂) and make a few bits and pieces at my sewing social but quilting is not really for me. Currently in the middle of the Sew House Seven Wildwood Wrap dress as well as alterations on some things I made last year. With you all the way on the circus stuff. Wonderful footage of the family- mine is so far away now and I miss them so much. Anyway, I hope you Enjoy your birthday lunch, time with Marianne and island weekend😊. Lynne
I'm still a newbie at sewing, and my intentions were to get into garment sewing. I'm just gearing up to make my first garment. I hadn't really given much thought to making quilts, but I saw your quilt along, and that it was good for beginners. I haven't started it yet, but I'm going to make that. My MIL gave me some pretty fat eighths for Christmas last year, and as soon as I saw your quilt along, I knew that was the perfect way to use them. I have most of what I need for it, just need to get a couple more, and I'll hopefully be starting the quilt in July, though as slow as I've been going, it might be August.
Hi Izzie, I am delighted to hear of your promotion at work - congratulations 🎉🎉. You look so lovely in that shade of green. I have almost finished sewing up a Sinclair Chloe cowl neck blouse in double brushed poly and I must confess I am not a big fan of the fabric. It was a bit tricky to sew and unfortunately clings to my lumps and bumps. I sewed that very same pattern up in another silky poly fabric (it’s Winter here so poly is not too hot) and that hangs beautifully, just skims skims over the body and looks elegant. I think this cowl neck pattern would look lovely on you. I have the same problem as you with trousers in that I also have a front tilting waist. I will be most interested to see what the solution is. Good luck for your first day in your new position on Tuesday. 🌸
I had a look at the Chloe top and it’s lovely. Yeah, DBP clings to everything 🤣 I made one top with it for myself in the past, and it’s a very swingy so doesn’t cling, but I would not attempt anything too fitted with it. Thank you for the well wishes for Tuesday! 😊
Hi Izzy. I was wondering, have you ever had the situation where you are stuck ON the island because of the weather? Fingers crossed you can go there this weekend and spent the last of your vacation relaxing away from home. I love those linen trousers (and the colour). Some designs of trousers are lower slung on the front, I remember the Hudson pants were, that could be the issue. Now I love DBP and have never had an issue with it so that is a conundrum.... sounds more needle issue doesn't it yet you did all that! The top is gorgeous anyway ❤ Congrats on your promotion! 🍾🎉. Xxx😘
We’ve never gotten stuck on the island, but we have had to come home in pouring rain which is NOT fun! 🤣 I made it to the island and I’m here relaxing now which is awesome. Also had a fantastic lunch with my mom earlier. I definitely think I need to try different types of needles and use tissue paper like a couple of people suggested for sewing with DBP. I do love to wear it and wish I had more of it in my stash. Xx 💞
Thank you - I do feel rested! I did not try the walking foot. I really should have though. DBP is pretty nice in the Winter here and in the super cold office 😂 xx 💞
Lovely makes Izzy. The top is fab. Btw have you tried super stretch needles? I use them with DBP and with very flimsy fabrics. I am sure your new position will be great. Take it easy on sewing front. :) I am planning to get the LN new pattern. I love your quilts. Do you use your regular machine for quilting ? I love quilting videos. Alice and I love watching Donna from Jordan Fabrics and Angela Walters. There is something soothing and magical in quilting 😊
Thank you Agata! I’ve never heard of super stretch needles. I might have to look into those. I use a straight-stitch semi-industrial machine (a Juki) for my quilting. I’ve had it for about 10 years and it’s an amazing machine. I am a huge fan of Angela Walters! I took all her classes on Craftsy. 💞
What a great time off and congrats on the job shuffle. I’m sure you will be amazing! I’m sorry you pants didn’t turn out quite right. There is absolutely such thing as a tilted waist. I will see if I can find anything on it without giving away info from my fitting classes. I’m excited about the LN swimsuit release. Marianne’s blouse is adorable. I have that pattern but haven’t tried it yet. I’m sorry your machines didn’t like the fabric. I don’t usually have any issues with DBP. So glad you had such a wonderful week to refresh and spend time with family. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Happy Sewing❤. I have my be mine pattern cut out. I’m hoping to get my wearable toile done this weekend. I have a 4-H modeling workshop tomorrow to help with. Almost fair time. I almost forgot. I am a quilter converted to garment maker. I have like 4-5 quilt tops that need quilted . 😊
Thank you Angie! I think I found the adjustment I need (thank you Google 🤣) and I’m going to try that on a pair of shorts I’m making very soon. I really want to make another Be Mine top. I have beautiful viscose fabrics that would be perfect for it. But I also want to make more Remy Raglan tops… too many plans!! 🤣
@@dizzyquiltsandsews 😂🤣 me too! I find that there are so many y things I want to make that have a hard time deciding what to do next, then just don’t get anything accomplished because I am too overwhelmed. I do love your Remy Raglan top too and have looked at that pattern.
Thinking of Front and Back rise, my front is 11, my back is 16... I was thinking it was kind of normal, because my best fitting RTW pants of old, were exactly that. But it is very difficult to find, which is why I am now trying to match the fit 🙃 Hmm
You know - in RTW pants, I never noticed that my front was lower than my back (and to be honest, I’m not sure it was). But I’m now noticing that many of the patterns I make are like that. I wish I had a pair of RTW pants that fit me properly, but even in stores, I have a hard time finding pants I like that also fit me well.
Good morning Izzy. I wonder if page 88-91 of Nancy Zieman's Fitting With Confidence book would give you some help in fitting your slacks. I am currently working on PJ shorts and am using that information. Have not done much in the sewing/quilting dept as here in Southwest Wisconsin we have had rain, rain and more rain and the weeds are growing out of control in the veggie garden. Had a few days of no rain so have been pulling weeds. Looking forward to your quilting video, I do have a Coronet Babylock long-arm machine on a 5ft frame. My Coronet is a free motion machine and I always am looking for different patterns to try, and no I am not very good at free motion but it is only for me and that is all that matters. Glad you are having a great vacation. I am a retired nurse, and thought I would have all this extra time for sewing/quilting, but seems the days are getting shorter and it couldn't be that I am getting slower --ha ha!
I’ll definitely look at the book for my next pants project. My dream is to own a long-arm on a frame! One day… Everyone I know who is retired is busier than I am! 🤣
Hi Izzy, You DID have a great week☺ The pants look like they will be very usable with a lot of things. All my back waistbands are higher, I thought that was normal 🙃 One of my normal adjustments before trying any pants pattern now is reducing the front rise by removing some of the inseam on the front leg pieces. It reduces the amount of extra fabric at the front nicely. Usually 1/4" or 3/8". I love the new knit top! I wonder if that knit had a lot of spandex? Microtex needles help with that; I was skeptical about using a needle that wasn't a knit specific needle, but it usually works. I've got the Summer Basics pattern right in front of me here to do more tracing.... I've had it over two years 🤔. Is there going to be a new one? 🤩 My sister had major surgery, so not much sewing here atm. Sorry I take up so much room. And this is severely edited 😆 I'm glad you had a good week, and you'll get to the island soon I'm sure!
Maybe it is normal? But I find that when I position my waist lower so where it’s comfortable for me, the pants tilt toward the back and that makes the whole front of the thigh too tight. I googled tilted waist adjustment and it looks like all I need to do is take a wedge out of the front rise (make a hinge at the side seam). I’m going to try that next. I didn’t even think to try the Microtext needle!! The new pattern is called Clearwater but Tami referred to it as the Summer Essentials bundle (or something like that). As far as I know, it’s not out yet but soon!! I hope your sister is doing well and on the road to recovery! Sending you some positive vibes xx
@@dizzyquiltsandsews I had gotten the summer basics, I think, to replace some of my summer PJs/nighties, but I need some knit tanks, too. I'll look forward to the new one 😉👍 Thank you, she was much more herself yesterday. ☺
I love the top you made for Marianne. I haven't needed to do this but have heard tissue paper under the fabric during sewing can help. I haven't been sewing this week. I have been purging my wardrobe after my MMM closet analysis. Not quite done yet. My 'free' time is spent in my gardens for now but I am itching to start my next sewing project.
I’m definitely going to try the tissue paper trick next time! I wish I had a vegetable garden here. No room in the city and too many birds and small creatures at the island 🤣 Enjoy the gardening!
Hi Izzy, I fully understand your frustration with pants!! I've been working on getting the fit right for over a year and I think I'm almost there. I have a tilled waist short front and longer back I've have the front fixed but the back is my problem. Jen from J Stern Designs has some great help 😊😊 I'm sure you will get it figured out. Ball point or stretch needles might help with dbp fabric.
It really is crazy! And annoying 🤣
That green looks great on you!! Glad you’re having such a lovely time on holiday! That pool video was hilarious!!!

Xx 💞
You look rested. Love the green on you. Did you use a walking foot on Marianne’s top? I do not like DBP - mainly because it is so hot to wear.
I am planning to get the LN new pattern.
@@dizzyquiltsandsews I often try on 40 pairs before I find a pair of jeans 🤥
I have tried to sew this same type of fabric. Same problem! I could only serve it
Very frustrating!! But happy to hear I’m not the only one. 🤣
I was a sewist first then a quilter.
Oh cool! I made garments when my kids were very small, then discovered quilting and now, many, many years later, I’m back to sewing garments.
Hi, izzy! I'm first! I'm up cooking my husband some breakfast.
Lucky hubby!!
Hi Izzy, I fully understand your frustration with pants!! I've been working on getting the fit right for over a year and I think I'm almost there. I have a tilled waist short front and longer back I've have the front fixed but the back is my problem. Jen from J Stern Designs has some great help
😊😊 I'm sure you will get it figured out. Ball point or stretch needles might help with dbp fabric.
J Stern Designs is how I learned how to fix the back of my pants. She’s amazing!!
Hi Izzy, definitely not a quilter 😊
😂 It’s definitely not for everyone!
Hi, izzy, you have to use my hashtag and share what's on your sewing table.

Bye, bye wedgie!
Yes! 🤣
