Thanks for watching and the message, appreciated.
I do like to grow a bit of a range but have stopped growing some of the crazy hot ones as they don’t perform as well when grown outside.
      Enjoy your growing too 🌶️🌶️

We just need the sunshine now Iain, did I hear you mention that you will be over wintering the pepper plants? Sam

      Hi Sam,
We definitely need some sun. So bored of it being cold and cloudy.
I always overwinter a few chilli plants but always sow seed too. Overwintered varieties produce crops quicker as they have hard wood to grow back from.

Thanks for confirming, I will be over wintering some pepper and aubergine plants as they still very small and hopefully have a better harvest next year, happy gardening 😎

Thanks for this. It’s very timely as the cold nights etc plus the abundance of molluscs puts me off planting any warm weather crops out in the conventional way. I’ve now got loads of plants being potted up continually, taking up space and time, so I’ll definitely take your suggestion and multi pot the sweet peppers at least.
Any advice along similar lines for aubergines and in particular for winter squash (30 plants!)? This was meant to be the year of the squash for us and it’s not looking too good already.
Come to think of it, the same could be said for the approx 90 Czar beans.
    Any help gratefully accepted. Cheers.

Hi. Thanks, as always, for watching.
I’ve always struggled with growing Aubergines from seed so haven’t bothered the last couple of years.
Last year I bought a grafted type which of Aubergine was was amazing, especially as I grew it outside in a container.
As far as squash go I have planted mine outside at the allotment as usual but have been scattering slug pellets to try to control pest numbers. That said, I have noticed that some of the plant stems have been eaten.
I get my squash to a decent size in a 13cm pot before planting out so they can fend for themselves a bit better.
I tried growing butternut squash in pots a few years ago but they didn’t do that well as I think they never had enough compost to retain enough moisture. They also took up a lot of patio space.
Good luck with your experimenting and growing 🌸🌼

trying out lemon drop, cayenne, and a thai\ birdchilly i belive, the thai are about 2cm long and full of seeds, the young plants have dark grenish\purple leafs with green vains, maybe you know it? 1 2cm chilly is good for one big pot, by my standards anyway, and i thake out the seeds:) i was curius if you have tried any capsicum pubescens? only heard about them some days ago, they can thake some lover temperatures, sweet type and not so hot, sounds god for my palet:) rocoto is also a name used

      Thanks for the message.
I do like a Thai chilli but can’t seem to find genuine seed stock.
I’m very interested by the sounds of Capsicum pubescens. Definitely going to do some research on that one.
What size pots do you grow in? Do you grow outdoors or under covers?
      Thanks again 🌶️

      Hi and thanks for watching.
I have quite a lot of flowers forming and some fruits but not many. Unfortunately with growing chilli peppers outside it’s all about the weather, in particular plenty of sun and warmth. Maybe at some point the sun will come out this year in the uk 🤞
Hope you manage to get some crops too 🌶️🌶️🫑

@@diyhomeandgardening thanks for replying man. I remember asking you this a few years ago, but back then you said it was your first year growing chillis so you didn't know 😂. I think I tried watering less and adding a bit of calmag helped mine back then, so I may try that again. Just wondered if you figured out anything new since then.
Back then I kept pruning all the suckers that grew and got a decent harvest in the end. This year I've left them on to see if it will make more fruit. Do you prune the suckers or leave them on??

      @@buffyplays2577
I was just going to message you more.
I don’t prune my plants as that actually seems to slow them down in terms of producing fruit. In hotter climates then pruning works okay as the plants are growing that much faster, and have a longer growing season, but U.K. pruning is counter productive with the plants really only being an annual plant.
I feed my plants fortunately using a liquid tomato feed and this year for the first time I also added some slow release fertiliser at the time of potting into the final pots.
Adding slow release fertiliser is something I have done before with my tomatoes and cucumbers but for some reason have never tried it with peppers.
I would say that the plants this year are much bigger than previous years so that maybe is a result of that extra ‘base’ slow release fertiliser that they have access too.
If you are on instagram I would be interested to see how you are doing things and what varieties you are growing.

@@diyhomeandgardening thanks for letting me know about the pruning, I just grow peppers to eat lol. Your slow release fertiliser definitely makes a huge difference. This is the first year I've not added any and I can see they are not as big as they should be. I previously used Wilko fish blood and bone powder.
I'll let you know if I get more fruit with non-pruning. With pruning suckers I got about 10 to 20 peppers per plant
