I think you are used to working large canvases. As you adjust to smaller working areas you may find the number of colors and thickness of your cup layers change. Instead of repouring immediately, another suggestion might be to pour another canvas. After it's dry you might like it better. I always like my art better after a day or so. You can always pour over the dried canvas so there's nothing to lose.
I dont like silicone for a few reasons.. A) I can get cells without it, I dont need it. Cells come from technique. B) I don't want to have to clean it off with cornstarch, baby powder, blue dawn, etc.. or wash my paintings in the sink.. C) the archival properties of silicone have not yet been proven. How is it going to look in 10 years? If you use quality materials your work will last.. the jury is still out on silicone 🤷♀️ D) silicone residue can stay on your tools and next time you use them you've got silicone in your paint.. even if you didn't intend it. And traditionally oil and paint do not mix. You will have an oily film on the surface of the painting as it separates from the paint..no thank you.
We've definitely all gone to the birds. So for me please see penguins. Still yin yang... but The snow and ice of Antarctica has melted and this is the national flag! Question. Has anyone created an inexpensive professional ventilation system for your studio area? I already have a decent VOC air filter, but apparently it is not enough. Does anyone use a mask that filters out chemical fumes? If so, is it comfortable and easy to breathe? I have been having an elevated heart rate and I fear I may have to stop pouring if I can't find a solution. My heart is breaking. Pouring is my happy place.
I'm sorry to hear of your troubles... Can you paint outside? Maybe that would work for you... Mina uses water-based paints and they don't bother me like spray paints do. I use a heavy duty respirator, even when spraying outside, and that usually does it for me. The acrylics leave me be, I don't have any trouble with them, even inside her shed/studio... Maybe outside is the ticket, you could make friends with Gale, and the bugs, like Mina has, LOLOL ✌️😁🍀❤️
May I ask what brands you are using for Paint and Pouring Mediums!?! Hmm... something doesn't sound right about it creating fumes that would be that effective against you. I have noticed that there are a couple of Acrylic paints that put off fumes similar to house paint, but they are far and few. Most paints, and even pouring mediums, have low to no fumes at all, so my concern is that it is either branding, which can be easily switched up, or there may be something else going on!?! I would hate to see you give up something that you apparently very much enjoy, and it be a fixable issue... this why I asked. I would love to find a way to help you out. My husband and I both have issues with our lungs, and this has been something that hasn't effected either of us thankfully, outside of the couple time I used something stronger, such as a house paint or one of the paints that smells like that. Have you tried just your basic painters masks!?! You maybe could also check into the respirators that are used when Artists do resin work, or when spray painting... many artists have to wear those for hours at a time, so it should definitely be something doable if a must. Also, if you have any windows to open up while painting if necessary to help add to the circulation. HoA also made great suggestions above. Always remember, where there is a will, there is a way. Find a way to make sure you get to keep doing what you love and makes you happy. There is always that slight chance that the rise is heartrate could be something totally separate setting things off... talk to your doctors. It could be excitement or being on your feet to long, or an outside stressors that you have been trying to relieve the stress of thru your pourings. Totally think the whole scenario thru to help make sure what is going on. I truly hope and pray that you can figure this out!!! I wouldn't ever want to have to give up what I love. Nor do I want to see someone else have to do so either.
@@aandrews9141 Well said, terrific advice! Mina rarely uses house paint, and I haven't been exposed to it whilst shooting her artwork. In general, her art paints (Golden, DecoArt, Liquitex, Artist's Loft, Arteza, etc.) don't have much scent (VOCs?), but the Liquitex Gloss Medium does slightly, probably because it has a light gloss varnish in it. Rhonda, if you do need to try a respirator, Harbor Freight has some budget-friendly masks. The name brand stuff at the big box hardware stores can be rather expensive for proper fume masks. Like most of the gear from HF, they're a bit light duty, but I would think you only need the super high grade stuff for very fumey things like resin. These harbor freight masks for things like 3D printer resin which has very low odor, and then the harbor freight masks are easier to breathe through and I don't smell anything. If I'm spray painting inside, I will definitely use the high-grade stuff. Room-sized fume hoods/ventilators are very expensive, but with plenty of cross-flow fresh air, and perhaps a fume mask, you might not be bothered much. Depending upon where you are, working outside might also help a lot. The art therapy value is worth it! Cheers! ✌️😁🍀❤️
