Question from the crowd. Explain to me logically how Banbridge went from 33/1 yesterday to 14/1 today for the GC when all that happened was there was entries revealed. Banbridge is entered in the QM and Ryanair also. Antepost is dead 😡
Spot on Johnny with the initial comment on yards in and out of form. That first race in Naas had the Henry de B 2 x Mares first and second fav and the Willie M 3 x Mares next in the market. Willies 3 finish 1-2-3 and Henry's run stink. Make it make sense.
Johnny is so entertaining. Few weeks ago he told us that all Nichols' horses were rubbish. Now suddenly, he's got a potential superstar!! Also, the whole premise of this series is long-term ante post betting, but here we are approaching mid January and JD is still maintaining "it's too early. Wait until the DRF!!". Got to love the guy!!
Question from the crowd. Is the Cheltenham bumper the catalyst for turning the next comings into busted flushes. Other than Cue Card and maybe Envoi zAllen I can't think of any winners that have achieved . So many potential wonder horses who appear to have done too much. The O. Leary's rarely run their good horses as they seem to think that they get bottomed out.
@chimp0 Best Mate won a bumper at Cheltenham, but not the Champion Bumper. He used a bumper for what they are designed to do. Give a horse an education then crack on with their job of jumping. The Champion Bumper is the most pointless race in the calender. A complete waste of a season for the horses. Besides Florida Pearl, Cue Card and maybe Envoi Allen nothing has gone on from this race. Ok to mention people at home watching but how about trainers/owners travelling long distances and called off last minute? Cost of travel, time etc needs to be factored in. Without them there's nothing to watch.
Completely agree with JD regarding the commentary - even worse on RTE they drop the mic to a racing expert( i.e. an ex jockey who are by far the worst pundits-McCoy; Harvey; Fitzy ; Mcnamara -to name but a few) and they are talking with 2 fences to jump what horse is going the best- makes a mockery of the viewer - we can see exactly the same thing
Townend is not better than slevin put them on the same level of horse every day and see what happens. Say the same about Kennedy anytime he is on the same level of horse as Paul he has his pants down. 1. Kennedy 2. Slevin if you know what you’re actually looking at and 3. Townend . Entertaining show but DJ is a awful judge of horse racing for someone working in the industry time and time again he calls so many things wrong
I can commiserate with Johnny over Fact To File. He is going to be unlucky, but not as unlucky as myself. I thought the intermediate trip was his best option at the start of the season so on at much bigger than 15/2 for the Ryanair. That is so obviously where he should be going, but he won't. He is 6/4NRNB for the Ryanair which is reflective of his chance. He can't win a Gold Cup, but he can win a Ryanair. Think back to last year he was favourite for the Turners, and that is where he should have run, but they parachuted in the much inferior Iroko, at the last minute, stuffing up anyone who had been on for the shorter race. This year they will do similar with the inferior Spillane's Tower. His one entry was the nail in the coffin to this bet. I just read some Racing Post clown saying Fact To File would finish closer in a Gold Cup, but with no explanation. Why should he? Far more likely he is going to finish (much) further behind. He is no certainty to finish second, or even place. Mullins will no doubt be all bull about how he can 'tame' him, as he did with Galopin Des Champs, but they are two different horses. One is a strong stayer, the other just isn't. Mullins has already shown how clueless he can be regarding trips in respect of Ballyburn. Champion Hurdler? Very strange to me that Inothewayurthinkin wasn't given a Gold Cup entry. Ran in two Gold Cup trials and improved on his first run. A strong stayer, and could easily be a different proposition in the Spring.

Sick of the mares debate. The best mares DO go for the top races when it's a goer. Epatante, Honeysuckle, Annie Power, PutTheKettleOn all ran in and won championship races when they had a realistic chance. Honeysuckle had no chance against Con Hill and would have been forced to run there instead of having a memorable send off. Ridiculous argument
Honeysuckle ran in the mares hurdle as opposed to running against epatante in a champion hurdle. Annie power would not have run in the champion hurdle only for faugheen being injured. Put the kettle on had no mares chase to run in as it didn’t exist and epatante ran in the mares hurdle when she was no longer a force. You are talking rubbish
@jackdineen8983 The point I'm making is they ran in the championship races when they had realistic chances and in the lesser races when they didn't. Surely that's acceptable

I get what you mean about the realistic chance bit , but after saying that Lossiemouth had to have a great chance in last years champion hurdle and didn’t turn up. Quevega never once ran in proper championship race yet did so regularly at Punchestown ( with much success ) . Put the kettle on was an arkle winner so the automatic race for her quite rightly was the champion chase. Annie power would never have run in a champion hurdle only for faugheen being injured. Elite mares should contest the elite races in my book because they are not very plentiful and should line up in the big events. If they fail to win them so what , because ultimately they will gain more respect than the ones who could have faced the starter but won the egg and spoon race instead
