I have literally just come across you and i am so happy i have. My story i need to be honest with myself to be honest with others. Im a 39yr old male who has done nothing with their life for 22 yrs as from the age of 17 i started smoking cannabis on a bong as i dont smoke cigarettes never have, the last 10 years really heavy they say people cant get addicted but im 1 of those 10% with cannabis addiction. nothing else has ever got me hooked i can nip in an out of drink porn gambling etc they dont bother me at all, but in time that will all stop once i can control the way i think.. Iv made my start from stopping altogether as my life was a mess am a rubbish role model i have no money no house i cant drive i struggle to show love to loved ones but get told im a decent person how so?. My life for 22 0:01 yrs has been solely about cannibis i stopped seeing my friends show no love to family all i cared about was that next hit. I am 4 days into the process of giving up my addiction its tough but its what i want to do im doing it by myself iv not asked for help as i know i can do it ony own, iv took up breathing techniques stretching and im reading about changing the way my brain works how to get my self esteem good. its challenging as i killed alot of brain cells i would think as i struggle to remember some stuff, struggle to understand certain things that come natural to most im on my path to be a better person once i start loving myself and accept this is who i am then il be on the right path, people say am a good person i have good manners im easy going i will help anyone if i can from the smallest thing like opening the door for someone i try an treat everyone with respect as i dont know whats going on in there life. I want to be better for me to be better for my family. Its a long hard and painful process i know but that is my goal to a better life my objective 100%. This was my addiction and im fighting it with all my heart. Good luck to anyone out there trying to kick an addiction i know your pain, but remember always theres a way out. Its never to late to enhance your future as i am trying to. Your brain is a poweful tool its just about finding it and using it correctly. Thank you anyone who has read this far its much appreciated❤. to help me with my goal. And please no grammer police please im trying.

@@yourinnerchildmatters thank you for you're reply you don't understand how much the support means to me. I know there are alot of people out there with more problems than myself. I want them people to know they are stronger than what they believe don't let people put you down saying your not good enough your the strongest person in your own life, I think we forget that when life gets on top of us, there's always a way for change you just really need to want too. This isn't my first time to cure my addiction I've tried multiple times ending in failure. it's the first time my brain is in the right place I'm accepting what was wrong not hiding away from the fear I had to confront it and to conquer it, and move forward a better person. We can all do it we have to really want it ,I came to realise nobody is alone don't think you are like I have for 10 yrs there is always a way out on the otherside and support helps alot. I will keep you updated on my progress and hopefully in 1 years time I'm becoming the man I was meant to become.

How do you know who you are not? If you don't want to be selfish remember to look in the mirror if you've got no one like you and you'll get spooked every time. You have to be with anyone else there has to be two humans for you to know your own value and have something to compare it to because a mirror doesn't do it and then when you see that you need someone to get to know so that you can actually think about who and what you are then well you're no longer selfish same thing with this. How do you know if you're authentic or not? Okay so I'll put it like this anytime I have ever thought that there was something that seemed to be fake about myself. It always seems to me that that must then mean that I believe something about myself. Believing means that there's still at least one thing about whatever it is and it's not right or you don't have the full picture yet. Do you believe even a single word that comes out of your mouth? As a run of example and exercise I bet you do and I'm not trying to belittle you but what I'm saying right now is that I don't believe a single thing that I'm saying because I don't have to I have faith because faith is letting Go not holding on. Imagine something the size of a mustard seed and how that moves a mountain okay. What I just said is an example of how faith and about the size of a mustard seed is used by me to do one dish at a time instead of getting blown away looking at a huge stack of dirty dishes and getting scared off by that. Oh by the way this guy's brainwashing his s*** doesn't work and you can tell because it's not changing anything for you and you have to keep coming back and listening to him if you want to do something like that go find Alan Watts at least he has a pleasant voice and he laughs it a lot of things this guy's really using words to try and cast spells on you I mean if you think about it everything he's using has a way to be spelled kind of like what I'm doing right now. It's called the English language and it uses spelling to influence communications and actions literally adding the weight of words to the intention of using them is the grammar of this all you know a gram is a thing of weight and the second half of grammar as a word I guess kind of means something like to hand over to someone else. think about that. If I write you a note that says please pass the table salt and you read it and you pass the table salt I may have just cast a spell on you and I'm not being cute

I don't know if I am being my authentic self. For the most part, I do what I want to do, I live the way I want to live. But I lack connection with other people; it's very very rare that I 1) come across people that I am interested in, 2) come across people who are interested in me, and 3) form relationships that last long enough to create connection (ie most people want to establish relationships on a superficial/small-talk level, they don't want to go any deeper than that). I also lack joy, meaning, fulfilling activities, community, stable relationships (I have no family). So because my life is lacking so much that I find meaningful, I guess I have to say that I am not living an authentic life. But I can't force those meetings>conversations>relationships>connections. So this is the way life is. I am working on shifting my focus towards accepting life the way it is instead of continually wishing life were different. This is the way life is. I need to accept it and be content with it.

Remember that you're not alone, and there are people out there who will appreciate and value you for who you are. It's great that you're reflecting on your authenticity and being true to yourself. Building connections and finding meaningful relationships can take time, but don't lose hope. Keep being yourself, and the right people will come into your life.

We hardly seldom pay attention to ourselves; instead, we focus on things like work, relationships, etc. For so many of us, trying to please people or acting in a way that we think is necessary to obtain their love, respect, or acceptance is an ongoing struggle. The true question that we should all be asking is how to reconnect with ourselves.
If you haven't discovered out how to connect with yourself, living is a difficult and frustrating game. Because contentment is not a function of what we get or how people see us. It shapes our identity, manner of life, and moral character. Others may take away all of your "things," but they cannot take away who you are. You must develop self-love if you want to live a happy life.

After hearing dr.maté on this channel, I finally said no to something I didn’t wanted to do. Today only. It was a small thing, but all the caregivers out there will understand how our daily lives are full of small things for others. It felt odd at first and I felt tensed, trying to justify my no in my own mind. But I tried to focus on the good doctor’s words and his voice and image, and very slowly the tension receded. Then I helped the person I said no to earlier in another way that was okay to me. My whole life in a flashback became clearer to me. Don’t know how to thank dr.maté. And this channel.

I lost part of myself. I will never be who I was. Unfortunately in this modern society you either sacrifice everything to survive. If you do not, you will perish. My personal battle is that I cannot be genuine because I tend to be ostracized because many do not see thinks for what they truly are. The pandemic has also revealed much of society's true nature and It has made seek more solitude.

Your comment has really touched me, and I can sense the depth of emotions you're expressing. It's clear that you've been through a difficult journey, and I want you to know that you're not alone in dealing with these difficulties. The modern world may put great stress on us, frequently forcing us to compromise who we are in order to fit in or live. Many people can connect to your openness about feeling rejected for being genuine.
The pandemic has been an eye-opening experience for so many of us, revealing both the strengths and weaknesses of society. It's reasonable that this has taken you to seek greater isolation; taking a break from the noise can sometimes bring much-needed clarity and an opportunity to reconnect with yourself.Remember that your journey is different yet valid. While it may feel like you've lost a piece of yourself, growth often involves removing old layers to make place for new ones. It's fine to change and adapt, but it's also important to find places and people that value your authenticity. Continue to seek out connections that appreciate you for who you are, and you may eventually discover a method to bridge the gap between keeping true to yourself and navigating the expectations of the world.
Stay strong and continue to follow your heart. Your story may inspire others who are on a similar path of self-discovery and figuring out how to function in this confusing society.🙏✨💖

Fully agree, though unfortunately for those with adverse childhood experiences it is more likely for them to continue the toxic patterns and cycles through adulthood, where healthy attachment styles tend to see red flags much faster and move away from toxic relationships be it friends or partners. Do those people still get ill, have car accidents, deal with family dying etc therefore experiencing trauma? Absolutely, but they also have a better emotional foundation to move through those things in a far more positive and healthy way.

God bless you for explaining addiction and addicts..the judgement and callousness of friends and family keep the vicious cycle on going…no compassion for the why the person chooses to numb or escape is a cry for help…it’s a disease…the harsh judgement makes you feel unloved unworthy and perpetually keeps an addict stuck. If you’re truly concerned for the addict know this be of service have compassion. Thank you again Dr. Mate ❤❤❤

You are stating what I has been clarified in my meditations over and over the last few months which have nearly led me to suicide. I had sought out professional help many years before. I chose authenticity, I chose me, at a very young age. For some reason, I have always been incredibly sensitive, aware, conscious of me, of everyone and everything. It has cost me dearly. It has cost me many relationships, including family members, friends, jobs... I have felt very lonely for a the longest time, alien, weird... and yet, at almost 50 years of age, I am glad I chose me, and proud of myself.

I find all of his talks very interesting bc i can relate to most that he says. Im told you can blame your parents for your problems even if they did things messed up and caused you trauma. I then took the same trauma that wasnt delt with and has my first child at 20 and my second at 22. I was forced to get married at 17. I didnt realize it then but my children picked up alot of things i wish they hadnt but once i started to work on myself, learn, heal, etc. I can see it more clearly and i carry guilt bc of it. Im trying to do things different and better with my two younger children so they dont struggle in the same ways. I wasnt taught emotional regulation, accountability, or many things bc i was abandoned at 15. Its hard to find therapy with my ins if your not coming out of the phyc ward or they always want me to see the phyciatrist to put me on meds. Thats what caused so many problems to begin with. I was 16 and on 9 different medications taking 22 pills a day. I was completely over medicated to the point where i lost memory, would pee the bed, and was like a zombie. I learnt to take a pill and you wont feel, deal, or heal. I didnt kill myself but i got so lost and never dealt with anything. So fast forward 10-15 yrs and i realize i have no healthy positive coping skills. I went off of all the medication at like age 19 but i developed an addiction to other drugs. Im grateful to be 6 and a half yrs clean. I still struggle but im fully aware of whats going on and im in control of my body to where as before i wasnt. Im rambeling but best of luck to anyone sick or suffering. I pray you get the help you need and dont give up. Things have gotten so much better.

Thank you for sharing your very personal and deep story with us. Your bravery in sharing your experiences is truly inspiring, and it makes me happy that you relate with the content that I share. It's clear that you've been through a lot in your life, and I would like to compliment you on your bravery and determination in addressing these obstacles head on. Your commitment to healing and progress is nothing short of noteworthy. It's normal to feel feelings of guilt and regret from the past, especially when we consider the impact it may have had on our loved ones. Please keep in mind, however, that your faults or circumstances do not define you. What counts most is the progress you've made and the positive improvements you're making in your life right now.
Your commitment to break the cycle and provide a different, healthier environment for your younger children shows your love and commitment. Emotional regulation and accountability are valuable abilities, and it's admirable that you're working hard to nurture them. I'm happy that you're on a path of recovery and have been sober for more than six years. Your story serves as a light of hope for those who may be going through similar challenges. Even on the most difficult days, keep believing in yourself and your achievements. I understand how difficult it is to find therapy. Unfortunately, mental health care is not always easily accessible. I hope you continue to look into solutions that work best for you, and that one day you'll find the appropriate therapist who can provide the direction and support you need without relying solely on medicine. Your message of hope and resilience is important. Your path reflects the human spirit's ability to heal and grow, and I appreciate you sharing it with us.
Wishing you continuous strength, healing, and success on your journey. You've already come a long way, and I have no doubt that you'll continue to grow.💫💕🙏✨

My addiction counsellor guided me to Gabor only yesterday, five solid weeks I am tortured by body pain due to trauma held within…..20 years of holding my breath and staying silence and I’m manifesting my trauma in my body ……unable to heal and be authentic is the most pain I’ve ever felt ,
my body is hard as a diamond….and I’m not treating it with compassion!
I listened to Gabor for a tiny little 3 hours last night and my first ability to drop my shoulders finally hit the right part of my brain 🧠
I’m finally travelling “home” to my true self and somewhat comfortable by being aware that it is killing me ……only looking forward to healing and freeing my mind ……I simply could not thank the stars above for this start to real recovery……no hurry felt …..pain slowly lifting and honesty with loving compassion for the self willingness to learn and surrendering …..I’m grateful 😇

The ability to let go and begin your journey "home" to your actual self is a wonderful and powerful experience.
Remember that healing is a process, and it's okay to take your time with it. The fact that you're embracing on this journey with honesty and loving compassion for yourself shows your inner strength. It's a journey of self-discovery, and every step you take, no matter how small, is an improvement ahead. Be who you are. Does sleep, eat, annoy people, daydream, and not understand concepts of causality, future etc. That's what we did as children. But that's when we did not understand what stress was. Because if we felt stress, we would cry and fight and throw tantrums to stress other people out. But as adults stress is normal if we want to survive. But I think unrealistic expectation is driving us crazy.

    • @yourinnerchildmatters
      @yourinnerchildmatters  Год назад +2

Absolutely, you've shared a very insightful viewpoint! It's true that when we were children, we were more in touch with our true selves since we weren't burdened by the complications and demands that adulthood can bring. Stress was, in some ways, a simpler feeling back then, and we responded to it in the most direct ways. You've nailed it, by highlighting how unreasonable adult expectations may be overpowering. Maintaining a feeling of self-awareness while balancing our responsibilities and challenges is important. Accepting who we are while understanding the realities of stress and expectations could help us in managing this difficult path in healthier ways. It's about finding that happy balance between being true to ourselves and adapting to the needs of the world around us. Thank you for sharing such an insightful thought🙏✨💖

My adult son is suffering from the same malady I grew up with - Generational Trauma. I’m glad I can share the information with him - but he “can’t hear it from me”. This puts me in a heartbreaking conflict. I want to Help - but I can’t help…..how do I live with that ?

Your son may not be ready to hear it right now, but your continuing commitment to your own recovery can inspire and show to him that change is possible. Stay strong, and keep the door of communication open for when he's ready to take that step. ❤️

Then in my late 20s, I became more receptive to thoughts from my parents.

I've chosen attachment to my church my entire life and have struggled being my true authentic self. I grew up in this religion, which allowed me to be sexually abused as a child and covered up the abuse, yet has a strict moral code and the members judge others who don't get married and have families at a young age. They especially judge others from the LGBTQ+ community, which I'm a part of, but I'm not allowed to "act on" my feelings or desires of love or authenticity. I don't know why I chose attachment to a church that gives me so little in life for fear of abandonment over authenticity. This video is a start for me to try and change and break free. Thank you

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your honest thoughts and experiences. It takes huge bravery to open up about such personal issues, and I want you to know that what you've done is important to me. Your decision to face these problems and realize your true authentic self is an important first step toward self-discovery and happiness.
It is difficult to choose attachment to something that has been an important part of your life, such as your church. It's reasonable that the fear of abandonment impacts these decisions. Recognizing your longing for love, honesty, and the freedom to be your true self, on the other hand, is a turning point in your life. The path that you've chosen to break free and embrace your authenticity is powerful and transforming. Remember that transformation is a process, and each step toward self-acceptance is an achievement. Surround yourself with people who understand and support you, whether they be friends, family, or people who have gone through similar experiences.
Your willingness to share your story through this comments section may help encourage others who are going through similar difficulties. Your vulnerability may nurture connections and give encouragement to individuals on their own journeys to authenticity. Continue to believe in yourself and your ability to improve. The journey will be difficult, but your bravery and commitment will lead you to a more rewarding and true life. Thank you for being courageous enough to take this step and for include us in your journey. You are not alone on this journey, and your resilience is very amazing.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey to self-discovery and acceptance of your true self.

I am starring to heal but rather than help my relationship with them it has damaged it more. I hope that one day I cam be better and be able to build bridges. I don't want there to be time when things are bad between us but I need to heal enough to stop the same damaging patterns.

I appreciate you sharing your viewpoints and feelings here. You seems to be in a challenging situation, and I want you to know that you are not alone. Relationships may be difficult to navigate through, especially when it comes to issues of personal identity and personality.
First and foremost, remember that you are someone special with your own personality, which is something to be proud of. The Bible provides advice, but it's also important to realize that we're all on our own paths of self-discovery. It's not about changing who you are; rather, it's about creating together in understanding and respect. In any relationship, communication is important. It may be important to have an open and honest discussion with your partner, expressing your feelings and opinions while also listening to his point of view. Misunderstandings or miscommunications might occur from time to time and can be remedied through communication.
Finally, it is important to prioritize your personal well-being and happiness. You should never feel pressured to change your personality in order to please others. Your authenticity is a valuable aspect of who you are. Please keep in mind that there are support networks and specialists available who can help you in overcoming difficult situations. It is important to put your mental and emotional wellbeing first.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts again, and I wish you strength and positivity as you go on your journey🙏✨💖

Thanks for sharing this message. 👍
The first way you said the question (statement) reminded me of how my Dad would phrase it.
So although it feels harsh, I feel like I'd be compelled to answer it.
It felt natural to be asked like this.
With the second one, I wasn't sure how to answer this question and I'd have to actually try to think about it.
In addition, I realized that I also felt suspicious about how it was asked.
(Like why did it suddenly sound nice?
Why would you be nice to me?
When will the other shoe drop?)*
    * This probably means that I need to see a psyc doctor about my mental and emotional health, but it's something I realized as I was watching this video. 🤔
And while we're on this subject, I have asked a similar question, but it was more like this:
I feel stuck in this same situation and I'm not sure why it seems like I've been hitting a metaphorical wall (some lack of modivation and drive) for competing some chores or wanting to do a hobby (although I think my hobbies have shifted more).
    Stuff like this.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and reflections on the video. It's truly touching to hear how different aspects of the content resonated with you on a personal level. It's interesting to notice how the framing of questions can impact our emotional responses and thoughts. Your insights about your reactions to the two ways the question was posed are quite thought-provoking. It's totally okay to have complex feelings and suspicions; recognizing them is a significant step in understanding oneself. And regarding your personal struggles, reaching out and sharing your feelings is a brave and important first step. It's completely okay to seek support, whether from friends, family, or professionals. Taking care of your mental and emotional health is a valuable investment in yourself, and there's no shame in reaching out for guidance.
Remember, you're not alone in your journey, and there are people who care about your well-being. Feel free to take the time you need to explore your emotions and seek the support that feels right for you. Wishing you strength and resilience on your path to self-discovery and healing. 👍 ❤️💖

Here are my suggested corrections. The only one where I could not understand what he said was at 2:18. All the others seem quite clear to me.
0:15 these mechanisms with which we keep from being… authentic
0:21 in, it’s a question of uncovering through patient,
      0:25 and compassionate, kind self-observation
0:31 in which we’re not being authentic
0:36 not some great thing that you achieve (no period)
0:37 all of a sudden. Liberation happens every time
0:44 (large caption should read: YOU ARE NOT YOUR PERSONALITY)
1:14 said the biggest stresses on human beings
1:50 You’re not actually asking a question, you’re making an
1:52 accusation against yourself that you’re not good enough.
1:56 There’s another way to ask the same question. I could ask
2:01 Why are you like that?
2:04 What do you suppose is behind that?
2:17 What if I said to you this:
      2:18 (garbled) You’re 30 and you’re an intelligent woman and you’ve
2:29 And why do you suppose that is?
      2:31 Now, that’s a question.
2:37 So that the first thing is you’ve
2:47 Compassionate curiosity. (If you) say “Why am I like that?”
3:05 for you, ask it with that compassionate curiosity rather
3:30 So if we want to overcome our habit energies… Now,
4:07 and press 150 pounds on the first day.
4:11 You’re going to press maybe 25 pounds.
4:12 So right now you’re pressing maybe 75 pounds.
4:17 You want to press 150 pounds?
4:20 more, overcome those habit energies.
4:31 temporarily that you wanted or craved?
5:16 not a choice that you made, nor
5:17 is it a disease that you inherited.
5:23 So you had to be numb.
5:38 pain, we have to look at your life.
7:13 life, to the point of trying to kill yourself.
7:42 the significant factors that trigger stress are
7:44 uncertainty, lack of information and loss of control.
7:52 is going down the tube, where decisions are made
8:01 large forces over which you have increasingly a sense that
8:04 you have no control or even influence over.
8:35 One is being alienated from nature.
9:10 We’re alienated from our work.
9:29 imposes depression, anxiety, a sense of meaninglessness.
9:45 And then we get all hung up on how we
9:48 obtain, what we can possess, what successes we can achieve.
10:21 no infant is born without gut feelings.
      10:24 to their gut feelings.
10:48 And our gut feelings are not luxuries, you know.
10:49 They tell us what is right and what is wrong.
11:02 So when we’re alienated from our gut feelings, we have no
11:27 that we’re separate, individual, aggressive, competitive creatures,
11:34 we’re actually wired for empathy, wired for connection,
11:36 wired for love, wired for compassion.
12:58 and we’re disconnected from our true selves - to that
13:47 recipient of everybody else’s care.
13:59 patterns and our dynamics and really being courageous about
14:46 So if there’s a takeaway lesson here, it’s get to
14:55 In fact, there’s a really interesting word that we
15:07 Well, if you find it, it means it could
15:09 never have been lost in the first place.

Yeah say to an alcoholic ‘you should ask yourself why you act the way you do’ and in response you’ll get ‘you said you weren’t trying to change me.’ So you can see that their mind has a comprehension problem since you’re asking a question about their behaviour not themselves. They are unable to distuinguish between the two and that’s because they aren’t aware that they’re merely ‘under the influence’ you’re asking them to stop their influence not change who they are by stopping their own influence they alleviate their own behaviour. Even worse is when a spouse encourages another spouse to drink talk about abuse.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic with us. It's important to remember that addiction and its complications can be difficult to understand for both the the person struggling with it and those around them. Encouraging someone to reflect on their behavior while under the influence is not intended to change who they are, but rather to help them understand the consequences of their actions. Empathy and support are especially important in these situations because addiction is frequently a symptom of deeper underlying issues. When dealing with such sensitive issues, it is important to encourage open conversation and seek professional assistance. As we confront these tough topics, let us try for compassion and understanding. Thanks again and bless you! 🙏❤️

However my reaction was inappropriate for the situation/ environment. Yes I know that I lost self control with a raised unfriendly tone. This is not my natural personality. What I wanted to communicate was less affective as a result. However after many years of being silent. I am going to allow myself the time to do better. I am happy that I did stand up for myself and made the first step to recovery. Next time I'll do better.

I chose a lack of attachment, one I lacked the lower to create, in order to become more authenticly myself. What then poured out of me has been angry judgment and other forms of self-destructive behavior.
The biggest aspect of my addictive issues is my inability to engage in a balanced, socially appropriate response to stress. I call it the red light/green light, all go or full stop, idealistic pursuit of extremes. This is addiction as I have come to show it.
The answer is balance. The first step is distance from our emotions. Spatial awareness, or what Les Fehmi calls Open Focus, is very effective. Andrew Huberman's double intake of breath is even better. Inhale deeply down into the abdomen. Stop the inhale near full capacity before taking another sip of air. Then remain relaxed in the stomach muscles and allow the inflation to exhale for you. This will leave air in your lungs. Then repeat the process.

It's very inspiring to hear about your journey to self-discovery and authenticity. Your reflection on choosing detachment in order to embrace your true nature, as well as the subsequent challenges you faced, resonated with me. Your description of your struggle with self-destructive behavior and addictive tendencies, particularly the "red light/green light" response to stress, highlights a high level of self-awareness.
The concept of balance that you bring up is important. Striving for emotional and behavioral balance is a transforming step. Your insights on spatial awareness, as well as the strategies you pointed out from Les Fehmi and Andrew Huberman, are important resources for anyone seeking to achieve this balance. Taking that stop, that attentive breath, can make a huge impact in how we deal with challenges. It's very inspiring to hear about your journey to self-discovery and authenticity.
