yes , other castes rituals will also have all the major parts from this. Like mangalya dharana, saptapadi etc..The five main steps are common to all hindus, all over the country. Nowadays many have forgotten given up original rituals and do some new rituals as they like

Pretty sure, most of these customs were there in North too, but were cut short or cancelled for few centuries due to Invasions & foreign regimes.
For instance, some communities in North marry in Night-time, maybe a continuation of secret weddings at nights during Mughal regime.

One important custom is missing in this. They both together symbolically look at Arundhathi & Vashishta twin stars in the sky.
The Twin-Star pair is considered to symbolize marriage. Vashistha and Arundhati were a married couple. Arundhati and Vasistha were considered an ideal couple, symbolic of marital fulfillment and loyalty. Mizar is known as Vashista and Alcor is known as Arundhati in traditional Indian astronomy.

exchange of garlands is to signify that they have become one, united by both mind and body. Flowers are called sumanas- indicating they will act united in thought also. Hindus dont share cloths garlands etc with one another , not eat from same plate otherwise, except between husband and wife, as they become single unit like Shiva and parvathi

When girl finally steps into the grooms house.. She is first introduced into the kitchen and then made to touch rice and dal.. Meaning - honey celebrations are over.. Ur responsibilities as a kitchen maid will continue in this house too..pls take over.. And then the aunts/Ladies will ask u if u know to make good biryani.. :D oh and of course u will be expected to be awake early in the morning to make filter coffee for ur in-laws. If u successfully complete this.. U r an excellent daughter in-law. And u will be praised like hell.. Otherwise u r doomed..All the best.

not only the two families, their extended families 7 generations apart also, and the whole town neighborhood, are invited. Typically 500 guests very common. Until few decades back, weddings were 5 day event, involving lot of samskaras, refinements of attitudes and vows fastings and feastings and fire rituals. Relatives used to arrive evne a month earlier and participate, help as well as be entertained fed sumptuously. The whole neighborhood would not cook for 5 days in their house, as fresh feast was provided at wedding , for all their families, 3 times a day. Now Hindu wealth and time has fast diminished and people scattered all over.

kashi yatra is not a fun stupid ritual. In olden days, the groom studied vedas shastras in gurukulam, and after the Guru declared he is ready for gruhastha dharma, marriage, he had ot go to Kashi, where renowned pandits lived. He had to go there and get his knowledge tested and approved by kashi pandits, through debates exams(oral) , then he came back . Typically they ahd no money to start married life, Girls father offers girl along with all maintenance wealth(shastra says when we donate anything, we should also give means to maintain that donation, otherwise it may not be useful to the reciever or it may become a burden for him). If Girls parents also have no money, groom could go to any dharmic rich person and ask for money to start his life. Kashi yatra welcomes back a certified qualified groom returning from kashi, ready to marry

They name their future generations with weird sounding names (subjects them to mockery) which acts as barrier in blending with other indigenous cultures....
