I often wonder how the Young Folks think those tattoos are going to look when they're in their 60s 70s and 80s can you imagine what that Rose is going to look like when the skin starts to sag, talk about a severe case of wilt.
In his biography of Columbia boss Harry Cohn ("The Merchant Prince of Poverty Row"), author Bernard F. Dick says Cohn loved a B producer like Sam Katzman because Katzman almost always turned a profit with his low budget B films. The films usually hit the bottom of a double bill but were almost always interesting movies.
So many things could go wrong with stealing a plane ! What if there's no fuel ? Mechanical issues ? The plane might have something wrong with it and be due for repair. The prisoners can't even do a proper pre-flight check list !
Richard Devon had that special face, sadly, was not used in bigger budget movies. Should be more well known. He makes any scene better in all his movies and his many television appearances in westerns and TV dramas.
Roger that. Richard Devon had a regular role as well as on the CBS series "Yancy Derringer", performing the part of Jody Barker, a pickpocket and sometime cohort of the lead character played by Jock Mahoney.
Katzman and Sears also did the Caryl Chessman story Cell 2455, Death Row. Here as there, they demonstrate their knack for taking fascinating material, draining off anything that makes it special, and making bland B-movie sausage out of it. Talky, unexciting and inept enough to squander lots of perfectly legitimate exploitation possibilities. The only thing that this and The Shawshank Redemption have in common is the studio!
Lol.....without seeing it I'll take your word for it. And, this is not Sam Katzman's movie, it is Fred Sears' move. Last I looked, the director is the author of the film, not the producer. This channel does have good writeups, however and posts good films sometimes.
Pretty easy going jail. More like a summer camp for thugs. Pretty darn confusing all around. Kind of filmed like a television show. Not a very realistic one at that. Even my local county jail is run better than the one depicted here.
Thanks for sharing this gritty film.
Welcome. Thanks for watching.
