A few months back I bought a 'faulty' n3DS that wouldnt charge or turn on for about $20. I changed the battery to test, and it worked just fine. Charged as well. I thought, all it needs is a new battery. I put the battery in my other 3ds to see if it would charge JIC, and it charged just fine. So it needed no fixing, just the battery being drunk.
I have one of those AA Chargers that has the protection circuitry in it and it wouldn't charge some of my AA's but I bought one of those really shady Chargers on eBay and Walla I got the batteries to charge.
I find deals like that all the time in thrift stores. I dunno what it is but every time I walk into somewhere like Value Village, there's a Wii sitting on a shelf for like $20

That shell piece that's broken - I have a brand new one in the same colour that you can have for free if you like. Let me know if you want me to send it. I recently reshelled one of these and ordered 2 by mistake. Reassembling it was incredibly painful, I hate working on the 3ds XL, it is horrific. Mine is missing the screen lens so I assumed that's why my 3D isn't working (I assumed the lens was a polariser).

i'm currently in the process of tearing down my old console to rebuild it and i needed another point of view that could help me figure out where everything goes again lol. it is very broken and dirty, but i'm slowly fixing it (and ordering new parts). thank you so much for making this video!
I feel your pain when it comes to dealing with the ribbon cables on the new 3ds xl. About a year ago I had bought a used one that had a pretty grimy shell so I eventually bought a new shell for it and man was that the most tedious thing. I was so worried I was going to break the cables because of how little room they actually have to fit.
I love fixing consoles, and waiting for snail mail is the worst. I waited a month for a PSP 2000 shell, and when my package arrived, it was a 3000 shell. So I definitely feel your pain with the screen mix-up.

It might be a bit late, but the New 3DS XL has a pretty rare IPS screen variant, and replacing the ips panel by the other panel and vice versa without modifiying the console's software will cause it to have some issues such as, you guessed it, 3d not displaying properly. I've found out about this while looking for and IPS mod for my New 3DS XL
I've owned my red Monster hunter generations mew 3ds XL (long name) for about 5 months and it just came to me that maybe i should be protecting it instead of playing it like normal

Generally, the non working 3d effect comes with a damaged speaker ribbon cable, the same one that you replaced in other video, in a regular new 3ds. The shell was broken and the hinge was exposed, very likely that the speaker cable is damaged too. Or one of those small cables on the screen's side (one is for the backlight, the other is for the 3d effect) is not properly connected.
