Wow, we're up to Ep 11 already! UUUUU4444444EEEEAAAA
Awesome guys! Loving it!!
@Anthrax I love the carry on my wayward son cover you did it's fuckin awesome 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Enjoying every Ep! Thanks!!!!!
I was so proud of my T shirt with UUUU4444EEEEAAAA incl the NOT-Man, of course 😉
Bring back the Mort Drucker shirt! It was my favorite of all, and was worn for my yearbook picture two different years...
I could listen to Scott tell stories for hours.
Yore not the only one dude.
If you haven't already, you should read his autobiography. It's a great read and has a lot of cool insights into Anthrax and Scott himself. It's called "I'm the Man: The Story of That Guy from Anthrax".
I totally agree. I also recommend everyone to check out the "My Favourite Riff" YT series that Nikki Sixx did, the episode with Scott is awesome.
Dude, there was a cable channel called VH1. It was all about Scott Ian talking about other bands.
Samez man.
It came out just a couple of weeks after "...And Justice for All" but I already had spend most of the money from my summer job on albums like "South of Heaven", "So Far, So Good, So What", "No Place for Disgrace" and "The New Order", so I only had the money to buy one more album. I chose "State of Euphoria". Never regretted, still one of my all time favourites.
I was the same way. Paper route and mowing yards to buy metal cassette tapes. Those were the days.
Yo, you sound pretty damn cool!
Was a busy year for thrash albums. I remember how geeked I was to buy South of Heaven & Lights, Camera.... Revolution when I finally graduated bootcamp that fall.
I raked leaves, dug ditches, bailed hay, picked up dog shit, mowed lawns. Even when you are 8 years old you can get good tapes, lol( cassettes). Christmas and birthdays? 10 or 20 bucks and I'll pick out my own tapes, thank you. Ah. The good days gone bye.
@@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS I see you everywhere lol. See you at UTG
It's a great album despite it being a rushed job.
i agree, I think it illustrates the chaos they (and I ) were feeling at the time
But to be honest, there are two or three fillers on it due to the chaos and pressure around. It's not like ATL, which I can listen to from start to finish, but there's great songs on it, that's true. Now it's Dark, Antisocial, Be all end all, Make me laugh...
I love it, it was my introduction to Anthrax!
@@siv8976 same!
Maybe the band could revisit the album.tweek it,get it to sound the way that makes them happy.i would buy it.
I love this album from start to finish. There's no weak song for me, all of them are killers. Riffs like "Out of sight, out of mind", "Finale" or "Be all, end all" are among the best riffs in Anthrax catalogue in my opinion. But it's good to learn the background story of this album. Another great episode, txh Anthrax!
This album was huge for me back when it came out. To this day, I think it's still probably my fav Anthrax album.
State of Euphoria got me into Anthrax, rushed or NOT it's a great album!
No internet, not many sources for info outside of relatively simple life. This album comes out and songs like Out of Sight and Who Cares Wins start to inform me. All these years later and I’ve been supporting a housing organization for almost 20 of them.
-a bit more on this because it is important. I walk my dog every night at midnight. We do around 4 miles and walk to the parking lot of a nearby mall. Some folks live in the bus shelters around there from time to time. This is central Canada and it gets down to -40 some nights. I make a point to check on them and see if they need anything. They usually say no but ffs it’s -40 out, usually best just to bring something. I stay and talk, help them to feel a bit more part of it all again. Millie is always wagging her tail and they smile. Some actually say “man, no one even talks to me”. Anywho, time is everything and I have some for them, especially these days. Who would’ve thought a video series would lead to a confessional 😁
@PsychonautPupilDialater Manitoba here, around 750,000 people in the city. Homelessness isn’t really focused in one area here, it kind of moves around. One dude I call Mississippi Jack because that’s the name of the gas station he stays at. There’s a brush in a boulevard that he camps in. They get to be known over time and some people do try to help. These days with phones it seems that getting a photo in and posted is the goal. That’s fckd. Cheers 🤚🏼
Awesome of you. I was head of security for the largest homeless shelter in Tacoma, Washington (Moshington) for 5 years. I'm now looking at being homeless myself by the end of June. Thanks C-disease.
I've been a HUGE fan of ANTHRAX for going on 40 years. I only pit to 2 bands these days...I can't help myself.... ANTHRAX And D.R.I.
@@thereallycool I wish you well, man, I really do - and moshington is the best thing I’ve heard in a long time 👏🏼. Things will come around.
Love these videos! I didn't know a lot about the backstory of this album. Please keep these vids coming.
cool seeing you here, so you're a sneakerhead and a metalhead?
@@hanithehimbo3382 yup 👍 watch my bee vid from tonight I show slayer Nike dunks
THANK YOU ANTRAX!!!! BEST album ANTRAX ! I grew up Grusse aus Bayern!👍🤗👺
Maybe being rushed just enough but not too much works well because I’ve always loved the album, it has a great vibe. Really feels like summer metal.
This is an extremely underrated album. I find the song quality overall, to be very high. And "Misery Loves Company" might just be my favourite song on it. It's a shame that the band members themselves don't rate it highly, but for me, the album is worthy of standing alongside their other classic albums with Joey. I'm enjoying this series very much, it's great seeing every album in their discography dissected.
Mortal kombat. Fight me.
The album-tour-album cycle that bands get caught in has to be brutal; creatively, physically, mentally, and socially. The seven album string that Iron Maiden did from their first until Seventh Son *has* to be a record for a band firing on all cylinders for an entire decade. Not a bad album in the first seven Maiden albums. Don't know how they did it.
Agree. Right on. I think a lot of people over look Adrian Smith and his over all presence and impact. When he bounced after SEVENTH SON there was a slight drop in quality until BRAVE NEW WORLD. People tend to think it was the return of Bruce, which was awesome, but for me the unsung magic ingredient is Adrian. I said slight drop, NO PRAYER and FEAR are still decent, just not top notch.
There was a time in the '70s when it wasn't uncommon for bands to put out two albums in the same year. Today, that seems absolutely insane.
In their first five years KISS had 6 studio, 2 double live & 4 solo albums. And just like Iron Maiden toured constantly. I don't know of any band today who could match what the bands of the 70s and 80s had to do.
@@saltpeter7429 Smith is the main man in Maiden for me.
Weren't the 70s and 80s amazing,!?!
Hallo Thrash Fans, ich bin schon 35 Jahre Thrash Fan.Immer wieder toll die 4 großen Bands zuschauen.
I was 9 years old skateboarding to be all end all with a boom box. It was my introduction to Anthrax . Great album!
Anthrax on the State Of Euphoria tour in '89 was my first gig - Living Colour supporting.
Saw the 30th anniversary of State of Euphoria in OKC a few years ago. The lights went down to start the show and the beginning of 'Be All, End All' started to play and for an hour I was back in 1988 as an 18 year old freshman in college. Anthrax's music makes me feel young and always brings back great memories.
Their professionalism shows. To them as artists they say, We should have done this and that. To the fans it's timeless and perfect because Anthrax can do no wrong.
This is one of the most underrated thrash albums. Overshadowed on both sides. Amazing production. Complex songwriting. Darker, more mature themes, hinting at what was to come.
I love this album who cares win is my favorite song and now it’s dark and make me laugh!
Met one of my lifelong best friends in High School because he was wearing a State of Euphoria t-shirt, and I sang "Antisocial" as I walked behind him. We started talking, then tape trading, and at the end of our High School, we did I'm the Man with some buddies at the talent show. Still friends to this day (over twenty-five years later... ).
You're so bad, you should be in detention
My favorite Anthrax album of all time! Still love it in 2021 always takes me back! One of my favorite albums of all time. From beginning to End! Great Record! Classick
State of Euphoria was my first Anthrax album i bought. Then i delved into the older albums later. Finale is my all time favorite Anthrax song. "I drink three six packs, just so I can look at your face" is one of the best lines ever.
Such a solid solid album...I'm gonna watch all episodes all over...I love anthrax...this is amazing...
State Of Euphoria, my very first Anthrax album I bought at the tender age of 11!!! Still love it to this day! Great songs and it doesn't feel rushed to me!
This has been an outstanding experience. Credit given to the band, collaborators, and legends.
Great album...saw that tour... Anthrax, Exodus, Helloween
FINALE!!!! THE BEST THRAX.
See ya!!!
STATE OF EUPHORIA is n alwayz will remain my #1 favorite Anthrax album of all time n extremely highly influential to me. It pretty much set the tone for opening up the flood gates to heavy music as well as all forms of heavy extreme metal music for me.
I've seen them live 4 x's since 1997.
My favorite was December 6th 1997 in Tampa Fla. w/Coal Chamber & Pantera (headlined).
Phil Anslemo came out during Anthrax's set to do a CELTIC FROST cover.
If Anthrax comes back to Pittsburgh Pa when they can im definitely going to go v.i.p. with them n I've got ANTHRAX tattooed on the side of my left forearm.
Great hearing Scott mentioning '… French speaking part of Belgium'. You know we are there :); I can remember the show in Liège (2017) for 500 fans, what an energy!!
Finale has to be one of my favourite Anthrax tracks ever!
Out of sight out of mind ...my God , this riff is epic !!!!
Living in Tampa in the 80s and 90s, I saw these guys so many times. They played their balls off each time. It was an honor to see this kusic so often back then. Anthrax will always be one of my all time favorite bands.
My job once took me into the house of Joey Fatone of Nsynch fame. He had a collection of guitars on the wall, including one signed by Anthrax. I was stunned. I used to have a photo of it, but it was on a work laptop rhat got taken.
Anywho, I ended up sending an email to the address on the Anthrax website, figuring they might see it. I got a response from Scott and he said "Right on! There is a photo of us giving it to him on our website somewhere".
Thought that was cool.
My first concert ever was the Headbangers Ball Tour headlined by Anthrax in Danville, IL. I almost got one of Scott's guitar picks.
I'm one of those fans, favorite album. Something about it I just love every song and singing State of Euphoria with it coming out as EUPHORIA at the top of my lungs.
State of Euphoria is my personal fave! Highly underrated, Be all end all, Now its dark, and my fave track ever by Anthrax Finale! Love that album
I don't care what people say about this album. I loved it when I first heard it. It was like a summer of love. Make me laugh should be played more live.
In the 7th grade and being in the closet, this and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son got me through it. I knew you didn’t mean the “F” word that way in Finale. You showed me that it was okay to be different. Thank you.
This was my first Anthrax album. I loved it.
We loved this album, artists are often their own worst critics and can allow this insecurity to prevent them from releasing anything at all in the pursuit of perfection... You goofy kids did just GREAT, quit beating urselves up!
@PsychonautPupilDialater Actually, when you think about it, there are not too many albums without fillers. If I sit down and try to judge an album seriously I could almost find one on every album. Not just Anthrax, I mean in general. What's the perfect album? In metal maybe Master of Puppets or Among the Living or Piece of Mind? Yes. But as much as I love Maiden there's Quest for Fire and Sun and Steel on that one and they don't get my 10 points. Same with Motörhead. I am a big fan. But still, there are some fillers on every album. Same with AC/DC. Not to mention all the other bands.
I think maybe their experiences making State Of Euphoria, it was a stressful period by all accounts, soured their appreciation of the album? Like how an unhappy memory can color our perception of something. Personally, i think it's a far better album than Persistence Of Time.
@PsychonautPupilDialater I used to play guitar in a punk rock band for about 20 years. Just for fun and without any commercial success. I might be critical too, even though my feelings towards music are not professional. They just come from my gut. Yes, Powerslave is great album too, Reign in Blood is a good album, though I'm not the biggest Slayer fan. But as you said, it's really difficult to name, let's say 10 perfect albums. I'm still trying to make a list in my mind... ;-)
@PsychonautPupilDialater Well, I would call it punk'n'roll, very much influenced by the Ramones, Plasmatics and a lot of Misfits. I love the old rock'n'roll in general. But also Agent Orange with their surfing style. I always liked bands with melody and I was never much into hardcore, you know, like Minor Threat or that ultra fast stuff, though I like Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, Madball. They are not too fast, but they're heavy. Surprisingly the British punk scene never interested me that much. I've seen a lot of them like the UK Subs, ANL, Exploited, but they were just loud and distorted, not very melodic. I always prefered American punk bands, because they always had that rock'n'roll vibe to them and the fifties' melodies. I also liked crossover like Suicidal Tendencies, D.R.I. and Nuclear Assault in the 80s. Which then brings me of course to Anthrax and the 80s thrash scene. There was lot of good stuff. A band I heard about recently, though they broke up already, is an American classic thrash metal band called Lazarus A.D., something like Testament and the whole Bay Area scene. You should check them out, I think you'll like them.
@PsychonautPupilDialater We all are. In a positive way. Don't worry... ;-)
First album I ever heard. Fan ever since!
That album was what really got me into anthrax. I was in elementary school. Bought that once I heard I'm the man, I think. Born in November of 79. So i was a pretty young thrash head. \m/
I love this album. I was 10 in 1988 when it came out and I got my copy back then. Who remembers the hologram insert?
I love that album, It's one of my favorite Anthrax albums
Thanks for doing this!!! Looking forward to every episode
I guess this is why Be All End All and Antisocial are the only ones played live.
Which is wild because Misery Loves Company is the best song on it.
@@n2nother my second fave. I love Now It's Dark. Had that t shirt in high school
one of my favorite Anthrax albums
BEST ANTHRAX ALBUM BAR NOT NO NO NOT!
What is Scott drinking there? Fernet Cola?
In 1988 I was in Bochum D at the Monsters of Rock, on the State Of Euphoria Tour. That was amazing. Testament, Kiss, Dave Lee Roth and Iron Maiden played there that Day too. Simply unforgettable
The insaaaanely cool fact that they got the legendary Mort Drucker to do the artwork on the back of the sleeve!
I grew up on theses guys ,love Anthrax
Always loved this album. Saw it live with exodus and helloween monsters of rock paramount theatre seattle.... Awesome.
My favorite Anthrax album. Maybe not a popular opinion, but growing up a Mad Magazine fan, I really appreciated the artwork. Songs were great. Still in my top 10 albums to this very day.
State of euphoria is a classic!
The first Anthrax album I bought and I still love it.
Is incredible to think when this album came out, how my life was at that period... it's been soooooo long...
Skateboarding to this album was 🔥 back in the day... Good times in the late 80s. #Sk8
Love this album. My first ever metal album, together with Holy Moses' The New Machine of Liechtenstein 🖤
This was the first Anthrax album I had. I still love it
I 💜 this album !!!
Eleven minutes? ELEVEN MINUTES!!!? Is that all you're giving us!?
Come on! You're killing me here!
More! MORE!!!
this was the album that got me into Anthrax... I remember still, going to see them at the Headbanger's Ball tour in Atlanta, at the Civic Center w/ Helloween and Exodus! def, good times!!
This is the album that got me into Anthrax.😎🤘
Rushed, but for me their best. Brilliant album, thanks Anthrax!
Very underrated album
I love this album in all it's weirdness. Kind of how Death Angel's Frolic Through The Park is a weird yet great D A record. Plus that cover is crazy! Pretty bold statement. Yeah we always wondered is that Joey?? Plus this was the end of the crazy shorts period. I miss that era. All us teenagers would wear similar shorts in the summer. Those were awesome! If you put those shorts on right now you will write the best riffs of your life! Hahaha!!
STATE and AMONG are my favorite albums!
One of my favorite Anthrax albums very under rated always enjoy listening to it.
These episodes are a stroke of genius. They were quite lucky to experience that time period of music. Most of us now are jaded or just over saturated by so much music available online, it was never always like this. There was a time when this heavy music was new sounding. It was exhilarating as any drug to discover a new band with a new sound, it was addictive just like these videos…keep em coming fellas (and not like Jr)!
Best anthrax album by far
Masterpiece.
Brings back my childhood
It's my Anthrax album as I was at that age where I found I'm The Man and then Antisocial hit and I became a fan.
It was an iconic album for me. Loved every song on that album. I know Scott has said it was his least favorite album but I thought it was a stellar album.
With this album, I wore it out (on cassette) so many times, the local music shop actually kept a few copies for me behind the counter. I still have my last (worn out) copy in my little music shrine in my home office
Really loving this series. And yes, this is a great frigin album, and one that I almost always look over. Strange. Idk why? Maybe because it's squeezed in between my 2 favorite Anthrax records? If I remember correctly, I even saw them for this record when they came to New Orleans with Exodus and Helloween on that HB Ball tour.
Ok, now I have to listen to Trust. I was in a band with some guys from Bayside and now watching Scott, it reminds me of those guys I used to hang out with.
I believe Clive Burr played with them after Iron Maiden
As Frankie said the artist in them is the most critical. As a FAN I love the album. I grew up listening to them and related to their music. As they did with their idols. Thank you guys. I still to this day listen to you early albums.
Favorite album🤘
It’s my favorite Anthrax album because it’s the one that hooked me. Still so fun to listen to after all these years. Of course the next albums I picked up were Among and Spreading and I thought they could do no wrong after that. Easily my favorite of the Big 4 and their newer stuff is pretty solid too.
Spitz's lead tone on soe is the best I've heard
Great album!!!!
My first Metal album.
Okay, so maybe it got rushed, but the guys were in the zone! Love that record!
Scott is teasing us with that green Jackson headstock in the background! Let us see!!!!!
Best Anthrax album in my opinion. You can feel what is Anthrax in this album! Misery Loves Company is one of the best songs in Thrash Metal. Every single tune of this album is perfect! Thanks for keep doing music and I hope the next tour you play more songs of State Of Euphoria and Persistence Of Time!
State of Euphoria was my introduction to Anthrax. When that came out I'm The Man ep and Among the Living to me were new after SOE. I never heard the band's music before SOE. Shit... I was 10 maybe going on 11. 4th Grade and all I remember was being the smallest kid but got in fights will all the 5th graders and I blamed my attitude on ANTHRAX...
In most cases one would say this is bad but for me, this was when I learned when/how/why I became the Bully of Bullies. It taught me and saved me and ever since then Anthrax has been one of my all time favorite bands... @anthrax
Funny, I can totally grasp the whole euphoria thing. Bought this album in Stamford CT at like 15 yrs old. Knowing my parents were trying to sell their house and move to Cali, wha wha what. Got the cassette had this little hologram sticker inside, stuck it to the back of her 77 caprice classic and she was like whatever and eventually moved to Cali. Wore that album out in Cali saw you guys on clash in Sacramento and was like see you guys thrax doesn't suck!!! But don't sell yourselves short, this album kicked ass!!!
Thanks guys.... means alot to us!! 🤘⚡🤘⚡🤘( big fan of BLUE VELVET!! )💋
This was the very first anthrax album i heard, i was just in my early teens when one day my younger brother brought this home from a friend's house.
This was still long before the internet and the only source of information i could obtain about the band was through magazines and at first i honestly thought Dan Spitz was the singer. I was hooked though and soon discovered persistence of time a year or so later and i lived and breathed nothing but this band for years.
I really liked sound of white noise, not at first but it grew on me, Joey was gone and soon Danny was too. I gave stomp 442 my best efforts but could only dig a couple songs.
I didn't get interested in em until the reunion and then For all kings.
State of euphoria is my first, despite the negative stuff about it i loved it.
Same with ...and justice for all from Metallica.
...... PS. Before i finally got my own CD player, i sought out all the anthrax albums on cassette up to sound of white noise , and to this day they remain the only cassettes i have held onto.
Love state of euphoria
They say your favourite album is usually the first one you heard and liked; I can't say that "State" is Anthrax's best work looking back now, but I had a taped copy (sorry guys, I bought it later!) of "State" on one side, with "Appetite for Destruction" on the other, but apart from the thrashier music that gripped me more, it was the combination of "Anti Social" & "Who Cares Wins" that absolutely cemented by growing sense of social responsibility; hard rock with an actual message, instead of just party cock rock nonsense, exciting tunes that could be light hearted too without being temper tantrums (Get in the ring? Really?). But those lyrics especially inspired and led to a long career in care and social work since, so cheers Anthrax.
(Axel has since matured, and now the school fights about whose tastes were "more rock" have passed, I can look back too and at least say A4D was an accomplished album; but still, SoE will always mean far, far more to me)
'Be All, End All' is a great opening track, easily makes my top 5 Anthrax songs. Also got a lot of time for 'Who Cares Wins', that is a superb song that I've really gotten into in recent years. As for the rest of the tracks they never quite reach the standards (understandable when the band say the album was rushed) of their other stuff. But even the lesser tracks still wipe the floor with most bands. I did prefer the production on this album though (especially the drum sound) compared to 'Among The Living'. I've also always wondered was Phil Collins influenced by this album? Or was it just a coincidence that the subject matter of two of his songs were about Homelessness and Evangelism soon after 'State Of Euphoria' was released? 🤔
if the album was that rushed... yet you seriously make it sound as, or more polished than living.... a testament to your honing the craft... amazing album IMO.
this series is OUTSTANDING. yet another anthrax magnum opus...
i love these!
Literally in a state of Euphoria to record another Epic Thrash Metal Classic? Makes more sense than I thought 💭
And also the fact that “Antisocial” (originally popularized by legendary French Rockers Trust) is among their best loved songs, is equally a huge deal
My first introduction to any kind of metal music was State of Euphoria on cassette freshman year 1990. I've been Metal ever since. Thanks to Anthrax for doing what they do and Thanks to my friend AL for giving me his copy of Euphoria.
Great album
I couldn't even tell it was a rushed album it sounds awesome even when I first heard it in 88
I read Scott say in an interview at the time that the title came from the documentary on Kiss 1980 Australian tour. And if you watch that, the voice over says Kiss fans are in a state of euphoria
