I enjoyed your commentary and you told enough to wet our appetites for history and vacation. Seems so much to do and see in TENBY. Thanks for adding the personal places connected to your life. Filming and all was beautiful even in January. On our Must see list now.
writing from Montreal - Canada! love the videos. with a Welsh-born Mam, she and her family played a large role in St David's Montreal. many of your videos recall details from my one and only trip 'home' with my parents. how about a video telling us about you & Mel to contextualize these great videos and your love of our heritage
Thanks for watching. I have quite a bit of family in Canada too. We were meant to be going to Newfoundland back in 2020, so that didn't happen. We hope to get there next year.
Hi guys from all at St Catherine's Island :) Just to let you know that extensive renovation has been going on for the last 10 years. We are open to the public (Last 5 years) from Easter to October - Weather and tide permitting :) Each year we have more and more restored and more rooms made available to the public :) We have trained tour guides and LOTS of information about the Island and Fort inside. Come and visit us soon and we'll be glad to give you a tour :)
Hello Home Townies, That was a tour of my favourite place of all, and a lot of memories. My sister and I played hide and seek around the five arches and, for some years, she lived in the house whose garden included the turret at the top of the cliff. That was the grey slate covered house behind your head, Marcus. We were there, last year, for a family wedding, at St Julian's, on the beach. Can't tell you anything about the mortuary, but the whole town is a history course. If you visit St Mary's - one of the most beautiful anywhere, in my non-churchgoing opinion - you'll find a monument to Robert Reckorde, a local boy who wrote the first books of science and mathematics in English and invented the '+' and the '='. Oh, and did you check out the 'Harbwr' bar and brewery on Sergeant's Lane? That's my nephew's place. Be seeing you.
Enjoyed that Marcus - I've not been to Tenby for a yonks, I went into the Church in the town on a trip with my Organ Association back then, one day I will visit!
Not a local but me and my family have been going to Tenby on holiday trips for years, it's so great to see people really appreciate this beautiful seaside town and I'll be honest looks so strange off seasons but still a beautiful seaside town anytime of the year😅 As for Dead House Steps (7:28-9:18), I've done a few bit of research and from what I gathered of Dead House Steps, it was the town's mortuary built between the time dates of 1847/1892 and was the town's mortuary till 1954 where it was abandoned with the coming of Refrigerated mortuaries but would then be bought by a trust in the 90s. With the evidence of findings of two Chinese mortuary slabs found in there, it's believe that post-mortem examinations and burial preparations have been done there. It was located underneath the Fish Market and where apparently to an Wales News Website reporting of the site being auctioned off in the mid 2000's (this is where I got most of the information from) might have been related to certain investigations of the murders of the Hanging Judge Jeffreys Mass Executions in the 17th Century in Abergavenny following the Monmouth Rebellion and the Aberglasney House deaths of 5 maids in 1650, not to mention it's rumoured to be haunted and it's part of the Tenby Ghost Walks attraction and is currently used as a small boat house and a area for housing pipes and electric wires. Sorry for the long comment, thought I'd share some light to your confusion of Dead House Steps, thanks you, you guys are amazing👍
Once again brilliant you can't beat the coast better than the country side. The Welsh coast Cornish coast and the brittany coast and some parts of the English coast and isle of Wight coast there's some think magical and misticyle and some sense of pride of coming from there. 👍⛵⚓
@@flydriveexplore I live right next to the sea it's about a 4 minutes walk to the shoreline.and good thing is I live mostly right on top Portsdown hill Portchester 10 minutes drive away from Portsmouth I can see mostly all of the isle of wight the solent.in the summer I stay out on the decking with few beers on a night time just looking over at the isle of wight and Portsmouth and Gosport watching the cruise ships coming out of Southampton IV always got my Lateran out but don't worry I'm not trying to lure any ships to their doom and wreck them haha.its the best thing in the world to be coastal folk you probably might agree the coast for life.
Been to Caldy island. As I type I'm looking at a pot I bought my late Mother on Caldy. In those times (early 80's) women were not allowed inside the monastery and only the Abbott could speak to tourists. Might have changed. Interesting video again. I wonder if the monks have been vacced.
I haven't been over there since the 80s. It's an interesting island we should take the short trip when they resume. Don't think the monks have anything against vaccinations.
Love Tenby. Last couple of times I've visited i stayed at the Atlantic Hotel. Can highly recommend. Over looks South beach and Caldy island. Alway prefer it through the quieter parts of the season. Less tourists.
Lovely video. ok travellers, my partner and I are in need of a trip in late March. She’d love to escape London and do a nice hotel spa trip somewhere. Who knows, I may even propose during our trip! Thoughts on a special place in the UK? 🙏

It is a pretty place, even in the grey January weather.
The houses are so colorful.
Thank You.
You're welcome
Nice little town and beautiful scenery.
It is a very pretty seaside town.
I love off season travel. We'd love to see this, like a setting for a story by MR James. Beautiful camera work.
Thanks, very atmospheric during the quiet months.
Enjoyed that Marcus - I've not been to Tenby for a yonks, I went into the Church in the town on a trip with my Organ Association back then, one day I will visit!
You should take the trip. It can't be that far away from you. Nice and quiet before the summer crowds return.

Have to agree, we really like living by the sea also having the beaches and bays of Gower and Pembrokeshire not that far away.

I live a few miles away from Tenby and only visit it out of season
Yes, it's the best time. We did visit once during a bank holiday weekend, never again!

We have stayed in the Atlantic a few years ago, great location on the Esplanade.

Bath is one of our favourite cities, try the Royal Crescent and there's the hot water baths and spa in the city.
