You're videos are always very useful, precise, well explained and generally well done, I really can't understand why you don't have more subscribers. Keep up the good work anyway.
Zack, you made my day. Or my clean, as I should say. Before I started crossfit (and through that cleaning and snatching) I did mostly general strength conditioning and powerlifting and due to how I'm built lifting sumo has always been a lot easier than doing a conventional pull. Still, until you posted that video it had never really occurred to me to just try to pull with a rather wide foot stance. Well, now I did and dang, new PB. Thanks a bunch, love your channel - thank you for sharing so much valuable knowledge!
That was great and great timing for me to see this. Ive got a superstar that has a few small areas that make her loose "efficiency" in her lifts. Her toe position was one of those items. You expressed exactly what was in my head for fixes! Awesome!! Thank You!
Ray Goyochea thank you! Do you enjoy this style of content? (Live coaching) I have a lot of different tactics that are harder to explain from behind the desk.
Zack Telander diversity of content is always a plus. This with other examples of faults/corrections placed in the vid is very informal and visually descriptive.
Zack Telander hi Zack, I like this type of content as well, the main difference to me is thar your "behind the desk" videos seem to be more structured with regards to the idea being exposed (which to me is a plus). Maybe "live training" like this video, just more structured, would be the sweet spot (not sure if I'm being clear...).
Basically he should drop all "meaningful" content and upload daily, if not bi-daily with updates on things like, what time he woke up, how the weather is, occasionally going to the gym (but not required). All this weightlifting bla bla bla might make you sound smart, but it's not where you should be. Trust me on this.
This is great! Just what I was looking for. There are many ship wrecked parts in my pull and this is one of them. I have one question though, should I make both adjustments at once or just one at a time? Thank you for these videos. I’m incorporating your progressions in my warmups.
Can you do a video about scoliosis and weightlifting? I've noticed that klokov, shi zhiyong and some other chinese lifters does have one and i'd like to know how it impacts performance, training, and safety
Hey Zack i was wondering if you could do a video comparing the split jerk to the power jerk? when should i use which one and what are the pros and cons of each? Love your vids btw
Yo Zack, great vid as always! Do you have any tips on how to avoid banging your hips into the bar when snatching? I think its because im loosing the bar out front and then hit it for extension. It makes it hard to do "a lot" of snatches as it ends up making the pubic bone hurt as a hell
Idea for future video -breakdown of programming for weightlifting; specifically rep set schemes and total volume for accessory movements to manage weekly fatigue.
Hey Zach! First, thank you so much for your help over the past year with these videos! Question: are your feet in the catching position of the snatch (but also the clean - Chad Vaughn, @olychad, has a good video in relation to the clean foot position in the catch posted on his Instagram 04/05/2019) allowed to be wider than you would optimally overhead squat? I find my overhead squat (or even snatch balance oddly enough) more conducive to "squatting" up a maximal load. Any thoughts???
Hey zack can you do video about hook grip overhead in snatch ???? Because I don't know if I should hook grip overhead or take my thumb off in overhead position
Zack, I think the Chinese technique requires leg extension more than hip extension in the second pull, and that explains the wider stance. With leg extension athletes spend less energy to move the bar, and the time for them to adjust the feet is less. They don't have to compensate by jumping and widening the feet --like athletes who use hip extension in the second pull, which requires much more force to be generated for the time of jumping and feet adjusting. The wide stance then serves as a result of the technique as it cuts short the time for feet adjusting
The opposite happens to me I really want to use wide stace I try and try and dint workout for me , I get force back to narrow stance and is like 40 kilos difference, probably because my strong point and explosive but and still learning so my technique is not there yet on narrow stance my feet land on the right spot , my lower back I can set more tight. ZACK Help any advice.?
Hello Zack, Thanks for this excellent explanation! Could you enable the subtitles please? I speak little English and I am trying to fix this problem with my snatch! Thank you
Quality stuff as always, Zack. Can we see a "jumping back vs. jumping forward when receiving the bar" video next? I feel like I'm always hearing about how too much of either is a technique flaw, yet there are elites who do one or the other and still have tremendous success (e.g. Harrison Maurus jumps back by a lot, Rostami jumps forward by a lot).
Zack, please reply. I'm 22 and really interested in joining a weightlifting club. Is there any chance for me to be sucessful at it? I'm to late for the Olympics but how about just some national and maybe international competitons? I've been going to the gym and been doing stuff like squats and deadlifts for some years now, so I'm not completely starting from scratch. Also, how important is the strict over-head press for olympic weightlifting?
hey, I start with what I think is standard feet position as shown in this video, but it got wider when I am going to squat. Is that a problem. Sometimes it get too wide, so become hard to go deep. any solution?
My thought was always to catch like exactly like you squat atg...just bc im stitting on my calves anyway so its stable and im not collapsing that way even tho its narrow
I am by no means an expert but does it appear that Shi Zhiyong is dealing with a few joint/muscular or positional imbalances? A lot of aspects from his start to finish. Obviously despite putting up monstrous weights and being at the top of his class. That would make a great athlete analysis video.
But if a comfortable catch/squat position for you is a narrow stance, with feet not so pointed out, is it not a problem, or would you still advice a wider stance or feet more pointed out?
Regarding the Chinese lifters and their stance width - doesn't that go hand in hand with your observation that their feet don't really leave the platform? Therefore, they can't really move their feet out anyway.
Thank you! My femurs naturally rotate inwards and I feel way more comfortable with toes pointed out, but my trainer keeps insisting they point straight in power position and it feels so unnatural and weak for me. Gonna have a chat with him
So you have a trainer? I've been lifting on/off for about a year now (am 18 this year).. my parents keep asking me to get a trainer but I'm afraid I'll get those trainers with like outdated 90s bodybuilding/weightlifting advice. Do you think it's worth it?
@@ianism1103 Trainers definitely help and I would highly recommend one .But you need to pick one who got a track record of training olympic lifters. They will accelerate your learning. A snatch is such a complicated movement, you need an expert to look at what you're doing right/wrong and give you different cues to work with.
hi Zac, just from watching your last video on foot pressure i am now hitting like 97% of my 1rm from twelve weeks ago way more easily (previously i would fluke my PRs by looking for aggressive hip contact). I just focused on pressure during my pulls over a week and viola! not perfect but only gets better from here, so a BIG thanks to you (and aleksey)! just wanted to point out that i agree with your vid, though i wanted you to see this vid describing different start positions (including toes out and parallel) ruclips.net/video/7G8yh22FhGU/видео.html i'm more a toes out kinda guy, but i definitely understand why the parallel stands helps SOME people break the bar off the floor so easily. I think Simon Martirosyan might be a good example. just food for thought
People start in that narrow stance with toes pointed forward because most crossfit coaches, for whatever reason, insist on having EVERYBODY start in the position. Crossfit seems to be all about universal cues and positions, and has yet to reconcile with individual differences.
I dont even do weightlifting and i love watching you... Next thing I wanna see from you is you setting up a novice weightlifting program. If you search google you can see theres not a lot of them....
She did say she had had some knee problems in that interview in the recommendations tho But her feet dont twist over the heel like those of your athlete's do in the video (this is the first time I have heard the expression "toe-flaring", tho the team here does work with the concept) that would prolly affect her numbers much more.
The weightlifting Candito. Keep it up man. Would love a video about the mentality of dropping under the bar
I second this
They even have a similar voice, haha
hei emil
Yes!
you just don't understand how hyped i get seeing you make doing snatch looking like a piece of cake. thanks man.
A beautiful day. Ain't no better notification than one of these. Thank you Coach!

Thank you!!!! This has helped so much. I had a coach tell me to have a narrower starting base and using your tips has helped so much!!
Very interesting video Zack! A lot of good clues! Thanks for the good work!
ZT looking forward to your seminar in Milton Keynes
man gotta love coach Z
"Zack is like..a rebel..His coaching tips and cues..they never fail" always appreciate your content along side with the 90s Hip Hop

legendary upload frequency
Love you coach!
I realy like the way you explain lifting stuff. It makes me better at lifting! Warmbodycoldmind al day!
What a wonderful metaphor for the importance of individualism.

great video fixed my problems fast.
Excellent. Thanks!

Very nice and informative Video!
Btw. I would like to see a technique comparison video between Nico Müller and Max Lang. Please go on, bro.
Thank you. Zack
That chick has me in pain. So buff, and yet I can't help but feel bad for her elbows. Crossfit is the worst
Nice vid!
Good song selection at the beginning
Hey Zack! could you post a video about 20rep squats? just found your channel, subscribed right away
I needed this tip.
Yo Zack, great vid as always! Do you have any tips on how to avoid banging your hips into the bar when snatching? I think its because im loosing the bar out front and then hit it for extension. It makes it hard to do "a lot" of snatches as it ends up making the pubic bone hurt as a hell
That old school Avicii song in the outro!
never stop making videos
Insta like dude. Good content!

Watching this in 2022. Great video!
Nas is Like
What about jumping forward in the snatch. Any fix for that?
Hey zack can you do video about hook grip overhead in snatch ????
Because I don't know if I should hook grip overhead or take my thumb off in overhead position
According to Klokov when you point out toes and stand close you will gain more height as standing wider takes away height. What do you think?
You are my coach
OMG thanks coach
Oh god im so guilty of both of these. Brilliant video.
Hey Zack! Will you ever do a video about a hip extension?
Zack, I think the Chinese technique requires leg extension more than hip extension in the second pull, and that explains the wider stance. Instantly loved the vid from the start because of the music
Great video and RIP Avicii

You should really do some sort of Form check friday like Bryce does from calgary barbell, it would be such a good series to watch
Hello Zack, Thanks for this excellent

I have the same issue, I jump back alot. I can't seem to correct the issue.
i have a problem when recivieng the bar that i land in my toes instead of full feet!
Zack, please reply. I'm 22 and really interested in joining a weightlifting club. Is there any chance for me to be sucessful at it? know your limits master wayne
Having nas in your intro is an automatic like
My thought was always to catch like exactly like you squat atg...just bc im stitting on my calves anyway so its stable and im not collapsing that way even tho its narrow
Great video as usual. So I have the foot twisting outward you described but it's only my left foot and I can't figure out why it does that :(
Anatomical difference, mobility/bone length..everybody has some asymmetry.
Is there a way I can send you a video of my lift?
I'm not convinced, yet. But definitely food for thought.
What about standing with your feet completely straight? Like Pyrros?
Cool T-shirt bro
Make viedo on how wide grip snatch and clean grip
No copyright infringement for the music?
Where do you coach/train at?
Those shoes are fly as fuck
that chick is strong
I am by no means an expert but does it appear that Shi Zhiyong is dealing with a few joint/muscular or positional imbalances? A lot of aspects from his start to finish. Obviously despite putting up monstrous weights and being at the top of his class. That would make a great athlete analysis video.
ErikfromEarth it’s just asymmetric limb length
ErikfromEarth
It was mentioned he has scoliosis.
But if a comfortable catch/squat position for you is a narrow stance, with feet not so pointed out, is it not a problem, or would you still advice a wider stance or feet more pointed out?
Brodie the narrow stance limits your base and control. Your hips also won’t have anywhere to sit so they will be forced backwards in the catch
How can I like this video multiple times
Look at those shoes tho 😍
cause it looks cool asf to have the close stance.
Hey.. pointing the toes out and gripping the bar for cleans is kinda hard .. the knee gets in the way
Mohamed Haneef you have to widen up the grip then fam.
Regarding the Chinese lifters and their stance width - doesn't that go hand in hand with your observation that their feet don't really leave the platform? Therefore, they can't really move their feet out anyway.
it's because of their setup that their feet don't leave the floor.

Does this also apply for cleans?
yes
whats the point of split stance in CJ?
More stability?
Since minute four (4:00) I have been watching the chick doing muscle ups on the background
hi Zac, just from watching your last video on foot pressure i am now hitting like 97% of my 1rm from twelve weeks ago way more easily (previously i would fluke my PRs by looking for aggressive hip contact). The fact that Mohammed Ehab was in your thumbnail made me click on the notification sooo fast.
Ehab got that super duper toe point boiiiii
Zack Telander
Ikr, the man's a machine. Not the strongest but definitely my favorite. Hard working af.
The Chinese lifters also might have shallower hip sockets :(
People start in that narrow stance with toes pointed forward because most crossfit coaches, for whatever reason, insist on having EVERYBODY start in the position. Crossfit seems to be all about universal cues and positions, and has yet to reconcile with individual differences.
Dimitry Klokov has hella close feet placement on for his snatches
Michael Cho true but his toes are pointed hella outward.
Isn't that because of his bow legs? I remember you going over that in one of your videos on idiosyncrasies in lifters
YOU ARE NOT KLOKOV
If possible. Hip flexibility is a real issue with this.
I dont even do weightlifting and i love watching you... Next thing I wanna see from you is you setting up a novice weightlifting program. If you search google you can see theres not a lot of them....
2:30 LADIDADIDA
great video, would hug u if i could.
4:32 ...Muscle-ups FTW!!!
for the algo
just do "lastheben breit" (dunno what it is called in english, im german)
Snatch grip deadlift ;)
But we all want to look like Pyrros Dimas!
I know you're talking about form, but on an unrelated note, I saw him a couple of years ago and he's still jacked af
that girl at the back showing her crossfit cheated muscle ups
4:11 holy shit that chick in the back. Wtf is she doing
This is a type of problem that even elite lifters have, I mean, erm erm, koha, erm, erm.
Duncan Thaw yeah but she does that knee bow thing so it’s all good I guess ;) euro champ can do whatever tf she wants.
She did say she had had some knee problems in that interview in the recommendations tho
But her feet dont twist over the heel like those of your athlete's do in the video (this is the first time I have heard the expression "toe-flaring", tho the team here does work with the concept) that would prolly affect her numbers much more.
No mate, the real reason is how u are built up. Wider stance and higher hips are tools to guide people with long femur/short torso in their training.
lmao is that an ohio power bar
Likes to dislikes almost at that 420 - 0
Adib blaze up, my friend
