Rocking a 2019 Defy Advanced 2. Still as smooth as the day i bought it. It's my daily use bike, gets plenty of Miles and hasn't skipped a beat! I just don't like the conduit proprietary hydraulic brake system but I got a wicked deal on the bike back in 2020. Crazy how high the msrp has gone for all comparable bikes.
Just picked up the Defy Advanced 1 (full Ultegra 11 with GRX 800 rear derailleur) in starry night (raw carbon with speckled colour fade) for $3300AUD. 20% off RRP. The shop included a zero offset post for free too. I prefer the non-series crank - it’s black and it won’t delaminate.
Crankset is a heavier stock Shimano part, not 105 like everything else on the bike. Not sure why some bike companies do this. Trek is the only company that gives you a mid range bike with a full 105 group-set.
@Jamesthebikeguy do you have any idea when Giant launches the 2023 models? I want to buy a revolt advanced 1 or 2 , but we are in the last months of this year, I think is unfair to me and my wallet to buy a 2022 model now ... Congratulations for your channel
So compared to a road bike a gravel bike gives a nicer ride due to wider tires and easier hill climbing due to lower gears. Putting speed aside, gravel bikes look more versatile.
Wider tires at a lower pressure actually decreases rolling resistance so they're faster too, plus having lower gears means faster hill-climbing for a lot of people who aren't pros being able to spin the pedals at a higher cadence (or at all!). In a lot of use cases gravel bikes are not only more versatile, but just faster even on roads right now.
This info is incorrect "The rim weight is very light, only 1545g, 250g lighter than the same model last year, and provides a very large tire capacity to allow me to mount wider tires." i have the 2021 size M and the weal's are exactly the same at 1940 grams the bike is mine new is 9.2 Kg with XT spd pedals on., so if the 2022 model hat 1545 grams lighter rims or wheels this bike should be well under 9 Kg weight...check your facts.
I purchased my 2018 giant defy advanced 3 for under $1500. ( it retailed for like 1700) The main difference is my bike has a the 10 speed tiagra vs 11 speed 105. 105 is not worth 1000 more.
Didn't the 2018 Defy 2 retail for $2100 or something? So it's about $700 more now. I just bought a Defy 2 for $2800 plus tax and shipping fee... 😬 What choice does one have on the current market? You either spend a lot of $ for a desired bike (much more than 3+ yrs ago) or you don't. 🤷
@@jcadvanced $700 more for nothing new outside of maybe a wider tire clearance. If you didn’t own a bike already, then yes you have to bite the bullet but anyone who already owns a bike shouldn’t consider upgrading unless they absolutely have to. There is no reason to help these bike companies along with the insane price increase. Something that doesn’t get talked about when they talk about the shortage of parts, is the increase in new bike companies that now also use the main brand components. It’s an industry made shortage that shouldn’t trickle down to the consumer in my opinion.
@@perfectzero84 I had no choice. Either pay sticker for a bike or don't buy one... Though I hear inventory is higher and demand has decreased. Too bad I'm not on the market for a 2nd bike. Lol
Another Giant not built right. Both (Giant supplied) rubber grommets missing from frame and fork where brake hoses enter.Stops cable rattles and water ingress.into frame I would reject this bike if I was buying it new.
Not sure if it's a lot of bike for 2800…but sure it's a lot of money for a bike. Every single thing wrong in bike industry nowadays it's present on this bike, disc brakes, internal cable routing, propietary seat post, ence not light weight for a carbon frame...
Its for endurance, its heavier so its more comfortable, disc brakes for more tyre clearance for even more comfort. Youre paying dor for comfort, not weight savings
I just got into cycling so I'm no expert by any means but $2800 for a carbon frame, 105, and disc brakes is about as low of a price as it gets. Maybe a comparable bike from Canyon is slightly cheaper but other comparable bikes in this class from Trek and Specialize is $700 more.
This bike literally has everything my Giant Revolt Advanced 2.. minus the top tube bracket, bottom tube bracket, and the tire clearance. of course the group set too but Revolt Advanced has GRX800/600 vs Defy’s ADV 2’s shimano 105 are somewhat comparable as far as quality. AND SOME HUNDRED GRAMS OF WEIGHT BIG WHOOP I literally have this bike but more capable.
mainly the front chain set and the heavy wheels.. I managed to lose about 800 grams alone swapping the wheels to DT swiss PR1800s with Goodyear F1 eagle tires and the front chainset to an 105. Further weight was saved with a Selle italia Novus boost evo titanium saddle... Also swapped stock rotors to Ice tech dura race but unclear of weight saving.. I just likes the look of them! Will change bars and stem down the line to carbon and new wheels will have a dura race cassette soon..
You can build a carbon xc hardtail for $2800, with a dropper and decent fork. So really, you should be able to build this for a bit over $2000. But you will miss out on the good old lifetime warranty b.s.
Cheap ass giant couldn't even throw in the 105 crank. Sweet bike just not sweet on the price, especially with their seat post that can't really be swapped
Have a 2022 Defy 3...love it! Very easy to pedal, very comfortable and faster than anything I've owned before.

I bought this bike and I'm pretty happy with it. I did come across a 105 crankset on sale and swapped out it out for the stock crankset.
I have this bike - same model, same colour everything. Not a lump of fat on her. She even looks like an athlete!
I have the 2020 Advance 1 / ultegra. Very satisfied. The only change was to replace the seat with a Fabric.
Nice

But it has more flex and will feel sloppy. At least it feels that way to me.
@@jmaxson150 the crank you mean? If so I agree, and I traded it for an R7000 crank which feels very stiff!

Any idea on weight difference?
@@jcadvanced Exact numbers no, in the hand feeling is a big difference. The cranks on the 105 components felt much lighter. I would guesstimate 400 g.
@@jcadvanced A difference of 195 grams (0.43 lbs.); basically 27% heavier than "105" crankset.
Shimano "Non-series" FC-RS510 crankset = 908 grams (2 lbs.)
Shimano "105" FC-R7000 crankset = 713 grams (1.57 lbs.)
Just bought one, 3800.00 in Canada. Thanks for the Vid!!!
The bike looks great, I am enjoying my Giant Fastroad SL.
That's such a fun bike
Thanks for the video, just ordered one today !!
You gave the weight, but I don't recall you saying what size the frame is
Medium
How is it so heavy?! The Contend AR 1, which is also built with 105 (minus the crankset) weighed only 0.35 lbs more than this!
Brilliant video, going to buy one in2023
Looks like a nice upgrade from my cross city , thanks

Hey :) nice review , iam considering to buy this bike , iam 189cm should i go for size L or XL ?
L
For that price they could easily have put on a 105 crank set! I hate how all manufacturers are doing this. It’s not acceptable!
They are not there for our sake only for themselves! Also called Greed.
Great review

9.34kg
Yep they are gona need that 34t a lot more🤣
Very nice. But out of my price range.
Does it have the same seat tube crack at the seat post juncture that 2022 Giant Revolts & Liv Devotes have?
Nope, different design.

Thanks!
