Anthrax alumni here, grew up in Stamford, CT. Really cool to hear Porcell talk about it. Like every early-mid '80's scene there really were very few punk/hardcore/skater kids in the area back then. The Anthrax does not get enough credit, it was like an oasis. So many epic shows there and later when it moved to Norwalk and even well into the '90s when they had shows at a bar called the Beat in Port Chester, NY. There definitely was an art/artistic sensibility to it. The back wall outside (Stamford) where the parking lot was were big graffiti pieces which I remember being really into. Black Flag played there ('86 - busted by the cops) and I remember Rollins reading his poetry upstairs in the gallery before the show. If you can find them, consider interviewing Brian and Shaun who ran the place.
Brian ‘Pushead’ Schroeder is notorious for being opinionated. Then he 😢 after the fact when he realizes he spoke too loudly. He’s said about 10 legendary bands were crud. Stick to your art, bro.
I have to admit that there are many bands I have had to come back to after dismissing them. Some of the bands that have become my favourites were hated upon first listen.
Loved this episode, but the first lead singer of Ultravox, John Foxx, is BRITISH and grew up (and went to school) in England
