I bought one brand new in 87, best bike I ever had and Ive had 9 and Im 74 now. When they were new they wanted quite a bit for them but they never gained popularity at that time and I got it from the dealer for $999.99 in Portland Oregon who was getting rid of all the Big Wheel inventory. I used it for 16 years, hunted, trail rode, it was like brand new when I sold it in 2003. A farmer begged me for it, he had blown a motor and they were expensive to replace. He offered me $1,700 for it and I took it. I made 700 on it after 16 years, imagine that. But even though Im a geezer, I wish I still had it. Would love to do some safe forest riding even at my age. And I felt safe on it. It would go anywhere if you could keep it verticle. Everyone who has one likes it and it sits better than the Honda Fat Cat and in my opinion is a better bike. Like I said, wish I still had it. Happy for all you folks who have one and are enjoying them.
I got a Honda fat cat for free when I was cleaning my great grandparents house and garage out after they passed away. Nobody in my family wanted it and my uncle said I could take it. Tires were chalked and it definitely needed some money put into it. $600 later and a crf250 engine swap in it and she runs amazing. I couldn’t even imagine how I would react if my great grandpa had a banshee or a zilla stuffed away in his barn but I was speechless when I found that fat cat.
I love my BW they are tanks. You most likely need a new CDI at some point. Fat tire conversions is the only place to get the aftermarket one that fixes the rev limiter misfire issues. They are one of the few resources for these bikes and their prices reflect it. If you can get the swing arm eccentrics apart do it and grease them they are a pain if they seize.
Nice, I got one too. You could get the tank painted professionally, it ain’t cheap though. I think he put a couple coats of primer on it first. It’s just cosmetic stuff, no big deal if you didn’t. Awesome find!!
Killer find! These old fat-tire bikes are what kicked it all off for me as a kid.. Love em'! It's funny that you found this one on FB Marketplace recently, and I just stumbled across this: 1987 Honda Fat Cat: facebook.com/marketplace/item/313010080089379/?ref=search&referral_code=undefined Talk about tempting! Too tempting.. Best of luck with getting your new BW back in action! 😊👍 Sam -

Great! thanks for the info!!
True their cdi units work well...brought one a while back for the bw200 on my channel...the old cdi units are a weak point on these bikes.
I want one !
That's awesome man. Def wanna see it one day

Ive always heard, never paint plastic tanks. As soon as gasoline hits it, it will start to bubble.
What back tire is that I'm having trouble finding a new one

How do you like the tires it has on it? What model and size are they?
They are bear claw tires. Im not sure what the size is on them. They have a lot of traction.
I love it!
Plan on selling it anytime soon?
