I actually played Blue Shift before Half-Life, so I prefer a lot of the HD models. The security guards actually look like humans instead of ghouls, the HECU look way better, and the weapons sound better too. However, the MP5 getting replaced was a massive downgrade. I love the CAR-15 but it doesn't shoot 9mm and that always bothered me because there were actual 9mm Colt SMGs that existed at the time. Overall I like the HD textures but they really only work in Blue Shift.
i like the hd barney it doenst make him look like a man who hasnt had water in 3 days and managed to survive thise 3 days but rather your average dude that has a facial disability
Well, the real problem is that after all, the HD models were (more or less) meant to be exclusive to the Dreamcast port of the game until it got discontinued And it shows, by some models not having HD renditions, the complete lack of Upgraded models for Opposing Force (and yet they put weapon model replacements in it) some slightly off animations and model mishaps, and generally some changes that don't fit Half-Life's logic and aesthetic. Also while I prefer the HD shotgun's heavier firing sound, I'm not a big fan of the chunky pumping sound
Another thing that I've noticed is that the Beretta animation is a bit broken when used in the original Half-Life - the slide doesn't reciprocate when firing. In Blue Shift, it does. Just an interest tidbit that shows that the HD models really weren't mod for the original game.
That weapons kit bring back so many memories lol. I played alot of HL, but the expansion packs are what i played the most and those weapon variants are definitely what many of us remember.
Everything regarding the HD models would've been avoided if Sierra didn't cancel the Dreamcast port of half life 1. We were just a few weeks away from avoiding all of that. Weeks... Blue Shift was also originally meant to be released only for the Dreamcast port. That's why almost all of the dead bodies disappear when you kill them and why there aren't interesting new puzzles. Because Sega couldn't handle that. They did manage to make the Blue Shift levels more detailed with additional stuff placed inside them and that's impressive but everything else had to be sacrificed. In the end after the Dreamcast port cancelation the developers decided to release everything on PC including the Blue Shift expansion
i personally prefer HD models because like the gus on HD models sound so much strong compared to LD models and i found H.E.C.U soldiers having a m4 instead of a mp5 way logical(still M4 using 9mm making no sense but who cares) (edit:i learned its not m4 but colt bla bla(basically colt SMG) i forgot full name its actually a weapon that uses 9mm too(atleast wiki says this))
The HD hgrunts sadly have some downgrades when it comes to combat. Their fire rate are a bit slower and don't run as fast as the original model, due to weird changes that Gearbox did in their animation sequences.
I especially liked that zoony (brutal half life creator) added to mod M4 as standalone weapon that uses same ammo that m249 (and thats freaking awesone idea)
I can agree that the HD models arent that bad. They might look out of place, but they do look nice either way! Everyone saying how they are bad in the comments are just haters with poor taste, and probably didn't even watch the video at all. Imma subscribe!
I personally prefer PS2's HD models compared to the PC ones. The PS2 ones got animations for each fingers and eye/eyebrow animations on them. Also the Kleiner scientist model can finally look through his glasses now
I actually like the HD models. It makes more sense in my mind that the US army would use M4s with m203 ubgls then MP-5s with under barrels, which were produced but as far as I know not in large numbers.

The HD-Patch changes the Snark nest from a cocoon with legs to a stomach with a large intestine and rips. Watch how female gamers react to Snark nests: In HD, they might refuse to pick them up, in normal graphics they do, and get excited about the Snarks.
I like the m4 firing sound, in my imagination it is not that the m4 fires 9mm, the pistol fires 5.56mm, black mesa somehow created a handgun that fire AR bullets
i agree, but if it would have blended in better and wasnt the DEFAULT OPTION BEFORE THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY, then i think it would have been great. no but seriously, seeing first time players playing with the HD pack kinda hurts me sometimes (especially before the update). no offense to the HD pack, i love it a lot and it looks nice, but i wish they would have included like HD maps, HUD, and stuff like that to make it blend in. i think it would be a nice way to replay half-life again!
The HD H.E.C.U look much better and look cooler. As i grew up with both models i always thought both looked fine. Some of the weapon models looked way cooler on the HD. The only thing i didn't like was the M9.
@@Marine_2010 I mean, the HD models seem like a mod you'd download, with how it only changes the visuals. doesn't change anything other about the game.
Honestly if the HD models were built into half life 1 or made by valve themselves nobody would care. And in 2005 a lot of hate was given to the HD models due to the fact that they were enabled by default with no way to turn them off. And until 2023 the HD models weapons were canon. And a lot of people get the HD pack confused with the ps2 Ultra definition pack which is ugly as hell
The weapon models are infinitely better. Violently disagree? Mald seethe cope and all of the zoomer buzzwords I don't care. The original shotgun is spraypainted clay, the pistol is lego, the smg is made of plastic pipes and the grenade is a wooden block painted green.

It could also be an M4 9mm carbine... Yes, It exists. search it up.
Bad thing is that the magazine doesn't look 9mm at all.
I vastly prefer the HD models, the originals aren't bad but when the new models hit back in the day I loved em so much.
I legit love the Shotgun so much, it feels so badass, The mp5 is also a huge upgrade
Even though I generally don't like the HD models, I have to agree about the shotgun, such a shame it's mixed in a pile of mostly forgotten garbage
the shotgun is the same type, just with that thing at the top

The PS2 models are the best ones, they're used in Half Life echoes aswell
Not really
There is a 9mm AR variant made by Colt
It has a stick magazine though. The HD model clearly has a STANAG 5.56 magazine.
