agree kaau! IMO training in low HR for 80-90% of the time lessens the chances of injuries and also would reduce recovery time from each ride. Thus, fresher legs - more training time and mileage. Eventually would translate to improved speed and endurance. Mao ng dapat chill ride jud! haha 😎
Hi Carlo and I'm going to take a look at this as I have heart failure from my Chemo and I've been told not to go above 133bpm, but I'm now hoping that this will allow me to do so. Obviously I'll speak to my GP and Cardiologist before doing anything physical, but I've just spent £5,500 on a new gravel carbon bike inc wheels etc, so that I'm not having to push a tonne of metal along the road and hopefully Maffetone will help me improve more, so thanks for posting this as I've never heard of it before.
I'm not an expert. But Maf is maintaining a certain heart rate (180-your age) while polarized is going out most days in low heart rate, but on the days that you go hard, you go very hard. That's the best non-science explanation i can give hahah
I dont know this method but I always try to be relax and dont think any bad things especially when climbing. I just keep my heary beat low. When we did a longride to tabuelan and back home I just feel relaxed even though it is so far and we encountered rain and wet road going back. I think if you will just enjoy what you do and just relax yourself while biking dli jud ka malaspag. Sauna kusog kaayo akong heartbeat especially sa climbs pero karon dli na jud relax lang jud ko para d dali maluya.
I use my Garmin watch. The chest mount is much more accurate though. The watch has a lag and if your effort changes a lot (HR is high then low then high then low), it isn't as accurate.
Not exactly 140bpm, but I have a segment that I recently did that was 41.61km flat. Avg 30 kmph at 151bpm. Segment was called "Liloan Sogod" www.strava.com/activities/6699708727
I checked out the website. Here's an excerpt "The MAF 180 Formula may need to be further individualized for athletes over the age of 65. For some, up to 10 beats may have to be added for those only in category (d) of the Formula. This does not mean 10 should automatically be added, but that an honest self-assessment be made." philmaffetone.com/method/process/
@@carlovillarica Thanks, I actually did a 20 mile Zwift workout this morning and kept in check at 117 bpm... I have allot of hills near me. maybe add 10 pts for that.
Agree that maffetone method benefits those training for endurance and ultra endurance events/races. You should start doing a recon of possible routes for a long distance gravel event, unbound-esque. 100, 200, even 350 kms. It could be for a cause and at the same time you could promote your brand. That would definitely be an awesome reason for others including myself to go to cebu. Havent been there in years. The only limitation now would be this effing pandemic.
Yup! I've mapped out a few routes on Komoot, but I still need to recon since it is a bit far and not the usual cycling route for most people. But first plan is to train and finish our Round Cebu weekend.
@@carlovillarica cool! sounds like a solid plan. Thats whats enticing, riding new routes. Gravel events are the craze now in the US based on what im seeing in feeds etc and talking to friends and relatives over there. Even EU road pros are participating in said events. Just hope it’ll stay pure as it can be and not get as competitive and agressivr as road cycling. Whats nice also in handling an event/race like this isnhat its community building too. Round Cebu seems to be doable, just trust your training and stick to your gameplan. Good luck and enjoy the process 🤙🏼
I think you are using numbers for running not cycling. 145 beats per minute on the bike is brutal for me. Usually cycling is 10-15 beats less then running.

My pleasure. This is basically z2 training. if you search zone 2, you will get more results
Good for you bro...the program worked great for you. Ride safe always!👍👍👍
Thanks!
Yown!! Goodmorning sir.. now watching
Thanks!
What is the difference between maffetone and polarized training sir?

Yup! that's basically what I've been doing. Nag monitor lang ko sa akong HR
Nice one dol, do you wear any heartbeat sensor? im planning to train maffetone method in the future,

Very nice content..
Thank you!
Can i do 120-130 bpm of maf? Super low effort?
Sure. It will be slow and frustrating at first, but eventually becomes fast
Nice, thanks for charing, what is your speed on flats at 140 bps?

New subscriber here...
Thanks for subbing!
At 63 yrs young I don’t see how I can ride at 117bpm…

Oh but you can. Start it on a trainer in steady state an hour a pop. Save one day a week where you ride outside anyway you feel.
