It's crazy to think that 17 years ago, Zac Efron was starring in the first High School Musical Movie on Disney Channel & now he's playing a wrestler in an A24 Movie based on one of the most legendary Wrestling Families of all time.
Why is that crazy
I'm 52 and grew up watching wrestling in the early 80s with my little brother but never really knew why there even was a thing called the Von Erich curse, we were pretty young in the late 70s early 80s. We watched this movie last night. I am at an age where alot of things feels nostalgic but this movie has elicited feelings of nostalgia that hasnt faded, even today, my brain is replaying several scenes of the movie- a definite must see- even if you dont,didnt nor ever plan to like wrestling- this is about so much more.
I hope people understand the work the brothers really went through and not just the pain
Loved hearing you mention Jake G. In nightcrawler. He should have won the Oscar for that one.
It's interesting hearing you compare Zac's performance to Jake's in Nightcrawler - that's a good one. I walked away considering his transformation and performance similar to Philip S. Hoffman's Capote. Philip was measurably better of course, but Zac came close and that's what came to mind. I wasn't expecting much with this movie considering it was A24, but it is a very good film. It's Oscar worthy, but I doubt it will get much and anyway I don't believe the Oscars mean anything anymore. It's not the award ceremony it once was, unfortunately. Anyway, fantastic movie! I grew up in Texas so always heard about the Von Erich's, but what an incredibly sad story.

Zac Efron has come a long way and glad to see him continue to get his flowers. Was hooked to him as kids with the HSM series and all his other films, he knows how to dive into those characters.
they absolutely need to make more movies like this. absolutely beautiful, i feel like they could’ve added more to the story. but i understand timing of movies. beautiful beautiful movie!

Also “The Wrestler” by Daron Aronofsky is another very strong wrestling film, can’t wait to see The Iron Claw now

Efron was terrific and deserves a nomination for this career defining performance but if Paul Giamatti doesn’t get the win for The Holdovers (also a career defining performance)… there will be blood

It but I feel like they might have decided late in the game which brother he should play. Regardless this is a great movie save for who ever they decided to have play Ric Flair ouch that was a little tough.
Only advice I'd give anyone wanting to watch this movie is to check out some of the Von Erichs greatest matches. Absolutely makes you appreciate this movie more.

Exactly...the casting in this movie is questionable. The guy playing Kerry is way too small. Zak Effron did a decent job, but he doesn't resemble Kevin Von Erich in the slightest. The best casting choice in the movie was Fritz. David Von Erich is pretty close, but the rest are not even close. And the Ric Flair actor was horrible...I wonder if he ever even seen a tape of a Flair promo of if he just winged it.
If you have any family members who are not alive anymore or if you choose not to talk to any of your living family members, you are going to reconsider a lot of things and you might cry if you end up watching this.

Yeah I’m very impressed with Zac Efron. I’m so proud of him. He’s proven time and time again to be a formidable actor. Everyone did so good. I mean… except for the ass hat who played Ric Flair… man I shook my head so much and laughed but it’s whatever lmfao. Anyone can enjoy this film.

Zach was nowhere near the STAR of this, at least performance wise.
I think Zac’s botched surgery looking face just ruins it for the audience. He looks about 25 years older than his actual age now. It’s like some weird uncanny valley thing looking at him.

OMG This movie was one of the worst i've ever seen. Just saw it a few hours ago. Effron was the only high spot . The last scene and the way they handled the deaths were really stupid. Not even mentioning the inaccuracies. Literally every shot of Jeremy Allen White made me think if Kerry was really that small. It really stands out. R.I.P Chris Von Erich. He was bigger than Jeremy Allen White.

Great. A little slow at the beginning. If you are a fan of texas or 80s wrestling you will never be bored. The only bad part was the guy who played ric flair
The movie changed parts of the story that was not necessary.
Yeah, it feels weird to say that Chris was a removable part of the story, but the movie was already quite long, and having him in there would have made it even longer and even sadder. I just hope Kevin was okay with that decision.
