- It's the first appeal by a shooter against Devon & Cornwall's kneejerk reaction to the August 2021 Plymouth shootings. The force has been sending out armed officers to seize guns from certificate holders across Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.

So glad to hear this is going to court. At the very least all the people who have lost guns and there certificates should have been given a decent reason why.
People who have their certificate revoked know why the police have made this decision!
Guaranteed to get the exact apposite of what is wrote on the front of that place going in one of them.

It doesn’t cost the police any money!! That comes out of public coffers!!! But for you to do it costs you a fortune! And they know turn up to court Easter time and money back in a months time and there will be something else all the time racking up massive legal bill!
It’s disgusting how they behave!

There is an unknown piece of legislation that hasn’t as yet passed through parliament but appears to have been adopted by some police forces.
Impossible to quote the legislation obviously but police forces are adopting this unknown rule of law in readiness, in that, the pursuit of all law abiding citizens who hold the requisite certificates and licences in respect of firearms must be persecuted.
I know of a case, picture this, at the end of a partridge drive, a gun, accompanied by his son accuses another gun of shooting a buzzard.
The accusers are trembling with anger and wait until the guns have assembled before making the accusation.
The accuser waits for an audience before making a totally false declaration.
The accuser was unaware of grouse species in this country.
No buzzard was shot.
No buzzard found injured or dead, despite an extensive search.
None of the other guns witnessed the incident for which the innocent gun is accused.
Five credible witnesses give a statement to this effect to the police. Three of these witnesses were complete strangers and had no reason to lie and had travelled some distance for the day.
The accused is interviewed under PACE regulations, knowing no crime actually took place it was felt there was no need for a solicitor to be present.
The interviewing officer suggested to the suspect that perhaps the buzzard had been shot by mistake? This was adamantly rejected.
Fast Forward….
£24,000.00 legal fee costs later the charge was thrown out two days before the court date.
In an attempt through the court was made to recover costs, the judge rejected the claim because the three man rural police team were stretched and did everything they could under the circumstances. What they did not do was investigate the incident thoroughly or at all and displaying gross incompetence.
A warning letter from the local constabulary (not the prosecuting constabulary) was received by the accused after the case was thrown out to the effect that this case would remain on their file for future reference and enforcement action could result.
The accused did not have the luxury of crowd funding but £24,000.00 is a great deal of money and had it not been available the prosecuting constabulary and the CPS would have financially out manoeuvred or bullied the accused into submission.
The entitlement to engage in field sports in the future would have been lost forever, after 45 years of living according to the laws of this land.
Faith in the police to deliver justice has been lost.
Be careful out there, you cannot trust anyone, especially when shooting with strangers. As a result of this story, I will only shoot with people I know and hopefully……..trust.

Clearly Devon & Cornwall Police made some catastrophic errors in frirearms licensing. This Gun Grab doesn't justify or atone for their mistakes.I hope the courts give the case a fair hearing and Devon & Cornwall Police have to justify their actions.
Best of luck, me and my partner are currently fighting the same thing! Seems to be a trend at the moment with the police, taking away guns legally held. There’s a lot worse going on out there that the police should really make a priority!

For me the police seem to be getting too much power. I enjoy bushcraft and camping etc but to carry a knife as a tool rather than a weapon, to be used as a sharp instrument in my woodland camping environment is still ileagal (without good cause). Any people who want to use a gun or a knife for the wrong reasons will still aquire them whatever their methods,Keep up the fight . Well done .
Gun licensing should be taken out of the hands of the police as they can't in all honestly be impartial, especially when one of their own has been murdered

Wishing you all the best with Truro crown court. You only have to read Cornwall live and see what kind of monster you have to be to walk out with nothing but a slap on the wrist. Makes everyone sick.

I think it's about time that gun licencing was taken out of the hands of the police and set up an independent body too handle the matter and if you break the rules then they should turn up on you're door step and if they are not satisfied with the way you handle or treat you're guns then they should have the right too remove guns from the property and only call the police if there is an emergency
A nation is as free as its gun laws!

If (sorry, "when") you win your appeal, is there an opportunity to submit a compensation claim? They should pay for the trauma, discomfort and loss of availability to use your guns over such a long period. Not to mention if the guns are covered in rust when they are returned, are the police then liable???

What a shame good law-abiding people like him get their rights trampled by the cops.
Good luck and all the best to you! All this is because the old system wasn't followed. As a long time shooter, clay grounds are full of strangers to me and I had expected the system to ensure that I was safe and wasn't surrounded by unsuitable people? And the knee-jerk is to persecute the sensible ones. Good luck to you.

What reasons are they giving for the revocations?
Thanks for this. Reasons range from complaints from exes via speeding tickets to no reason and, in that case, police are trying to claim PII so they don't have to give a reason. / Charlie

Basc is not there for the average shooter, they have lost the plot. Cancelled my subscription this year and joined the NGO much cheaper and far more approachable
