The hate is about Tag Heuer mistakes like Caliber 5 and overpriced watches with no value. This one is a very, very good watch and Heuer 2 is a wonderful movement, so let's hope tag heuer keep going this way
I read this somewhere else : "Tag was a Saudi Arabian holding company that bought Heuer and they tarnished the name with excessive marketing and awful products. For a while the brand was a confused mess before being sold again. While they do make good products today, the hatred still lingers". I guess the lesson here is, it can take many years to build up a good brand and 5 min. to pull it all down with the wrong people at the helm. The Saudi should have focused on making hourglass instead, they have all the free sand in the world 😄⏳⏳⏳⏳⏳⏳⏳⏳
First of all, it's a very nice in-house movement (if you compare it to Zenith's chronograph, for example). It is very nicely built and looks more industrial than classically handcrafted. I think that's an advantage. And this movement has been in development for a few years. The caliber 1969 and then the caliber CH80, which are based on today's Heuer 02 movement, appeared over 10 years ago. So it is not a 'newly developed' movement. But that is also an advantage. But as mentioned, the rotor is quite loud and unfortunately not on a chronometer level. The watch is accurate, but not on the same level as an Omega or a Rolex with a master or superlative chronometer. But since the case is not screwed, the clock can be adjusted quickly. I have to do this about every two weeks. A pity: Heuers 02 is not antimagnetic. Breitling's B01 movement is more precise, but almost twice as expensive compared to this TAG Heuer. The Heuer 02 movement has a KIF protection which is almost the best shock-system on the market (Rolex, Breitling ... with it too). And it's 100m water restiance. In conclusion, you get a great watch for the money. I own the elegant 42mm version Carrera Heuer 02 ...Greetings from Switzerland
No TAG hate here, they make some great watches. The thing for me personally and where I'm at in the hobby, is that any money I might spend on a TAG that peaks my interest would be better suited going towards my next Omega.
Only have to look at online forums and facebook to see TAG and Rolex are by far the most followed, owned watches. The hate is clearly a small few online. Omega etc for whatever reason have much less.
I love TAG and Heuer, for various reasons. My 22 year-old TAG Heuer 2000 is the ideal daily chrono which has taken a beating as it travelled the world with me (literally); and the Heuer Autavia (a recent acquisition) has been my grail watch since I attended my first F1 race in 1968. I really like these watches as much as my Seiko, Tudor and Omega watches. Thanks for your open-minded, non-judgemental approach to all watches, Bruce!
I'm definitely on the love team. They have done some mistakes in the past, but clearly they are now listening to what the enthusiasts want. And they're applying these new ideas beautifully.
Some WIS might not like it, but TAG Heuer is up there in terms of brand recognition with Rolex and Omega amongst the general public whilst being more affordable. Nothing wrong with wanting a brand that the average person will recognise as a luxury watch. It's male jewelry at the end of the day.
Solid watch, checked it out the other day myself. In my opinion lately Tag is really starting to do some great things, it’s nice to see:) Thanks Bruce!
This is an honest watch for the less snobbish amongst the WIS community. Perhaps even a great Swiss chrono for someone not interested in watches as a hobby. Good piece. Thank you, Bruce.
been dabbling in APs and Langes but went full circle back to Tag Heuer recently. the brand introduced me to the world of luxury watches way back in the late 90s and early noughties and hold a special place in my heart. it is rather unfortunate that the brand has had more ups than downs in the past decade but I visited the boutique a week ago, did some reading up and I am glad to know that the brand is on a serious upswing. I never thought I would ever consider getting another watch from TH ever again but here I am with a new Carrera 160 Years Montreal LE. Did not leave with another standard 42mm Carrera 02 simply because I'm torn over the colour choice. On a parting note it is always disappointing to see how snobbish the watch community can be with certain brands when the better approach would be to celebrate the positives that each company or watch maker brings to the scene.
Yes!! Thanks for doing this video! I commented about not seeing many Tag heuer 02 chronograph videos a few weeks ago and now I see you did this review. Thank you!!
Great review, very unbiased. Love my Tag Heuers. Been wearing my Link day-date daily for 11 years, keeps great time. My quartz Formula 1 still keeps perfect time after 15 years.
Great video and outside shots of the watch! I own many high end watch brands and my Tags are some of my favorite watches to wear. A great mix of sportiness, fun design and masculine feel in the watch.
Nice review, I have owned Tag Heuer's going back to the 1500 series that I purchased in the 90's. I gave that watch to my brother and he still wears it presently. I own a Rolex Deep Sea Sea-Dweller, Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph, and a Rolex Speedmaster Racing with the white dial that I purchased over the holidays. I am on list with the Omega Boutique to purchase the newly released Omega Speedmaster Snoopy. I own more Tag Heuer's then any other watches and I still have them to this day; Tag Heuer 6000 Professional (stainless and gold), Tag 2000 Chronograph ( GP USA race track on back), Tag Link Chronograph Calibre 16, Tag Aquaracer Chronograph Automatic, Tag Formula 1 Chronograph Indy 500 (cac111b.ba0850), and my favorite of all of them my Tag Grand Carrera Calibre 36 (CAV5115.FT6019). Not that I wear a watch to solicit compliments but when I wear the Grand Carrera Calibre 36, I receive more compliments over the Rolex and Omega's. All of my Tag Heuer watches were purchased on a military base. With no sales tax from the military exchange system and they are already reduced from MSRP by up to 20% and they have sales through out year when you can get an additional 20% off. I like the new Carrera and I keep asking at the military when they will receive them. I laugh how some people say Tag Heuer watches are not good watches and break easily. Having spent 20 years in the USMC as a UH-1N (Huey) Crew Chief, I wore my Tag Heuer 2000 Chronograph all the time. It survived working in the combining gearbox (C box) brushing up against the stainless steel oil lines of the UH-1N. It accompanied my to my deployment to Iraq in 2003 for 11 months and it worked flawlessly. Since retiring from the military I work in Law Enforcement for the past 16 years. Guess what watch I wore up until last year, if you guessed the Tag 2000 you would be correct. I now were a Apple iWatch for the messaging capability and since I cannot feel my phone vibrate in my shirt pocket due to my body armor.
I have always wanted a Tag Heuer watch since seeing one as a kid (some 25 years ago). 100% will be adding a Tag of some sort to the collection one day.
I bought the blue one to add to my collection and it’s a cracking watch. I love the size and it’s a watch that people have commented on in a positive way on many occasions.
great review. pointing out major points watch enthusiasts look out for. For me, a Breitling owner, this watch was definitely in my interests and I was seriously considering purchasing one. Wore it twice at a boutique, but couldn't check to see the quality of the AR coating with all the lights in the boutique. which is a huge deal-breaker for me. subscribed!
I really like this watch I tried it on recently and it is really really nice in person. The choice of green is awesome and pretty unique to anything on the market right now. I own the Tag Heuer Autavia Chrono Heritage re-issue with this newer Heuer02 movement and I absolutely love it. It’s one of my favorite Tag watches except for the other you showed which is the Monaco. I have wanted the Gulf version for years and hope to add it to my collection. I too love the Navitimer, it seems we have similar taste. Excellent review.
I love TAG Heuer, Specifically the Formula 1 and Aquaracers. They have a very sporty look and are outside of the serious watch aficionado spectrum. To me they seem to be in a world of their own which is fantastic. I bought my younger Brother a Formula 1 for his 21st birthday. Video on that coming Saturday!
I really wish Tag's had better value retention because this is very close to Omega price territory. Given the option of a Tag or an Omega, I'm going with Omega every time just on value retention alone
Is this Tag as good as an Omega at the same price point such as the Seamaster 300m? If it isn't, most will still likely go with Omega at this price point.
It's the name of the game, but yes better to be Richard Mille charging 200.000 $ for a watch with a plastic strap. It's about brand pr and design plus some luck. And the watchmakers and designers probably move around in the big watch groups, so I don't feel sorry for them.
Another great review. That shade of green is beautiful. If people are still hating on TAG they are obviously just following the crowd. Keep up the good work. And if anyone is wondering, yes, Saltzman's will give you a great price. I purchased a watch from them dropping Bruce's name.
I don't mind the wobble. It lets me know I'm wearing a mechanical watch and not a quartz. Nothing wrong with the wobble in my book. The dust/particles on the inside of the watch is completely unacceptable.
I was always a bit of a tag hater, but I was given a carrera day date by my employer for exceeding a sales target and it has changed my mind.. Its a beautiful watch, very well finished and it runs well within cosc specs..
I own a Tag Heuer Aquaracer 300 Professional (latest model in blue), and yes, it has a pretty "standard" movement they call "caliber 5" which is basically a Sellita SW-200. But the level of finishing is way up there. I also own a Oris Aquis with a Oris "caliber 733", which is also a SW-200. Both are excellent watches, and are in my daily rotation, next to my Seiko MM300 SLA021 and an Oris Artix GT Chronograph. But the SW-200 is easy and relatively cheap to service, so no complaints here. Ever had a Rolly serviced? Then you know what I'm talking about. ;-) All and all, the negative talk about the Tag give me a bad feeling sometimes about my purchase, but when it's on the wrist, I think f-'em all those haters. Because it is a serious and beautiful piece of horologic jewellery. PERIOD!
The new Tag Heuer Carrera chronograph is a beautiful watch. Tag Heuer has a history of making beautiful watches like the Link, Carrera, Diver and Monaco watches.
I love this watch but I am a sucker for green dial. Bruce I agree with you all luxury watches should have an exhibition case back to see the Beautiful movement!
Why do people hate on them? I remember when I was a kid the fanciest store at the mall would display tags in the window… the cool Carreras with the red accent and red stitching… I wanted one sooooo bad and thought one day I would… when I was really really young I used to think about Rolex, like everyone, but once I discovered tag Heuer I thought that Rolex was just for people who didn’t know about real watches like tag hahahaha
I love some Tags. The others, not so much. Love my Tiger Woods Golf, love my s/el two tone grey dial and would love a Monaco. Finally starting to love the new models. Thank you Mr Biver.
Woah, what a good factual, both sides of a coin review. I subbed because. Well done. Have owned 3 - 1 Heuer chronograph 70's + 2 Tag Heuer 's 90,s all were great value.
Beautiful watch, way more interesting to me than the usual chrono recommendations from the WIS community. Although I have three Carrera's in my small collection of six, I'm not a fan of their more understated designs such as the Autavia.
Actually really like that green dial . I just bought an Aquastar Deepstar for my new chronograph, or I might have give this peice a serious look . Great video Bruce.
i've got 2 tags grand carrera and muhammad ali which i love but the quality of the mechanism isn't great but i like the looks, ive had zero problems with them both
My first watch was a black formula one. Purchased it for $300 at the time. Great watch. Tag has its place in the market and gets a lot of undeserved hate. People argue it is overpriced, but isn’t every luxury watch overpriced if you really think about it? Great review
This is obviously an homage to the Rolex Daytona, just masked by a different color dial /s Just joking! I think Breitling and Tag Heuer do the best green dials! They look great in sun or shade, and don't come off as cheap unlike some other brands. Thanks for the look as always Bruce.
Grew up in Asia - Tag is big there. Never understood the hate for Tag. This is a good looking watch - tho I feel the green could have been brighter like their Hulk aqua racer
Very beautiful watch! I wish they would have made the steel version with a black dial!!! And they really need to step up on the QC!!! For that price that's a no go!!! Frank
I subbed. I'm 31. I want to treat myself soon. Just getting into watches tbh I don't really have no knowledge. I've watched few collections like the Daytona and others I like but. My most expensive is about 1200. I had bought a Bulova Movado. Just stainless steel. Black center. Gold around center or whatever its called. But have a cpl of regular fossils and watches from hs. A few people I know have some nice Rolexs. One he put diamonds all on his Day-date
Bruce, thanks to you and Lenny (The Timeless Watch Channel) I bough my first Panerai (Radiomir Black Steal). So I am now part of the Secret Dark Side-Paneristi- Society!
I'm pretty sure the unidirectional winding has been chosen for this movement due to the high power reserve. It's more efficient than the bidirectional winding system. This is also why some high-end Chronos are also unidirectional winders. So I wouldn't tie this behaviour just to lower end movements ;-) Thanks for showing the watch, Bruce! It's a fine looking Chrono but I just don't like it as much manly due to the reasons you mentioned in your review. Keep it up! All the best from Germany!
The dislike comes from creating dogs for 25 years after tag acquired Heuer whom was a legendary watch maker. Granted for the last couple years they finally make a decent watch ...
Is this movement a real new in house movement or another caliber movement like the rest (I heard that just mask eta movements and call them caliber#something)
Sound like a broken record, but great video, Bruce, thank you for the effort. In my opinion, the watch is great. Would prefer the now (presumably) discontinued Autavia Heritage Chrono. Same 02 movement, I read an article on it, pretty impressive, to me anyway.
The TAG new design looks super cool. They might overpower the traditional hate for the brand there used to be for years. Literally all their new ones look amazing carrera, monaco, aquaracer. I hope they're done with the cheesy design they presented in the last few decades.
Hi Bruce- I am thinking of picking up the Tag Porsche special edition chronograph from an AD. List price is $5,850 and can get it for 20% off list at $4,680. Watched this video and was wondering if you think that is a good deal? Even at 20% off list I am trying to figure out if if $4,680 is too much for a Tag. Your thoughts?
I really like Tag Heuer. Don’t know why there is so much hate. Keep Rocking those Watches Bruce 🤟🏻
I think the hate started from the moment where Tag bought Heuer. The hate comes from people who are nostalgic of former heuer watches
The hate is about Tag Heuer mistakes like Caliber 5 and overpriced watches with no value. This one is a very, very good watch and Heuer 2 is a wonderful movement, so let's hope tag heuer keep going this way

My first watch from Tag Heuer was the Aquaracer GMT Batman and i love it!
I’m a simple man, I see Tag putting green with stainless and I get excited.

I like it. Better than Seiko for the price these days

I knew someone would of had to make that comment lol.
Epic intro 💃🏻 🕺🏻
I love Tag Heuer ❤️
Lovely watch 👍
Great looking watch. Nice dial color but my only gripe is the stainless steel bezel will probably get scratched up easily.
That green is nice. The latest Carreras are a step forward in design from Tag and give plenty of bang for buck.
Great video as always!
Grew up in Asia - Tag is big there. Never understood the hate for Tag. This is a good looking watch - tho I feel the green could have been brighter like their Hulk aqua racer
Wow 😯 what a nice watch! Great review Bruce 👍
Very beautiful watch! I wish they would have made the steel version with a black dial!!! And they really need to step up on the QC!!! For that price that's a no go!!!
Frank
Love TAG HEUER
Keep reviewing it please
I really like this design! The price, not so much. Have to buy it pre owned if i buy it.
Great video, Bruce!
Looks super nice. Not sure I would ever buy a Tag though.
I subbed.
YES! I am a new Paneristo myself. We are new part of the terrifying brand >:)
Great looking new model from TAG Heuer. Not sure about the color, personally. Thanks for the review.
Have to say the only tag Heuer I like is the Monaco. Particularly the gulf.
I'm pretty sure the unidirectional winding has been chosen for this movement due to the high power reserve. It's more efficient than the bidirectional winding system. This is also why some high-end Chronos are also unidirectional winders. So I wouldn't tie this behaviour just to lower end movements ;-)
Thanks for showing the watch, Bruce! It's a fine looking Chrono but I just don't like it as much manly due to the reasons you mentioned in your review. Keep it up! All the best from Germany!
I am on the Love side of the Love or Hate catagories.
My first automatic watch was a Rolex submariner with the Cyclops and I sold it for my blue face Tag Heuer carrera calibre 5.
Sound like a broken record, but great video, Bruce, thank you for the effort. In my opinion, the watch is great. Would prefer the now (presumably) discontinued Autavia Heritage Chrono. Same 02 movement, I read an article on it, pretty impressive, to me anyway.
TAG 👌🤘 LVMH is on 🔥
Which one, this or a Speedmaster?
Used to think the Carrera was bland but this is cool. I think it’s the green. Like it.
Nice chronograph!
In house movement like their 1887?
Hey Bruce, love the review. Quick question, will you be reviewing the new Marinemasters, the SPB207 and SLA019 any time soon?
The TAG new design looks super cool. They might overpower the traditional hate for the brand there used to be for years. Literally all their new ones look amazing carrera, monaco, aquaracer. I hope they're done with the cheesy design they presented in the last few decades.
Please review Rado true automatic open heart r27100912. It has a beautiful dial.
For a bit more, similar size, a Speedmaster racing could be a good option too. Those are too big for me though 🙂
V nice review. Hope they release the green in 42mm. Thanks
Perfect alternative to a Daytona if you ask me. All they need is to improve the build quality and quality control.
Cool chrono!...
How funny ......it's LVMH again isn't it? (elephant in the room)
I Pay for the Watch 3750€.
