Dark ales get their signature color and roasty flavors from highly kilned grains, one of the more popular being roasted barley, which some believe imparts undesirable burnt flavors. Carafa I is an alternative that's said to contribute a smoother, less acrid roast character. Brülosophy's Will Lovell is here to put these two roasted grains to the test by having blind tasters compare Altbiers made with the same portion of either roasted barley or Carafa I. Can participants, or even Will himself, tell the beers apart?

Nice to see a recipe that stands a chance of showing any small differences.
I’m never really convinced by 8oz of hops, then small difference not detected.

I like the testing of subtle differences and potential impact on final outcome. One thing I've been curious about is measuring my dry hops during brew day versus waiting until dry hop day to measure. I store my hops in vacuum sealed bags, and it could save me a lot of time/effort to measure all the hops whilst I have the vacuum bags opened on brew day. Curious if you've experimented with this over the course of your 99 brews challenge or otherwise? Thoughts on doing an exbeeriment for this?

Now now It's not the size of the sample that counts but the accuracy of the refractometer 😂
