  • Euro nymphing roadside is great. Even pressured trout can be caught with a tight line nymphing rig. Just don't get tempted by the big water. Keep it short, tight, and you'll find fish.

Nice, learned this lesson a few years ago. Easy to get caught up in the river runs through it mentality when on a big river.

Nice video and watched a similar video from you on this strategy a while back and oh man this brings am in as many don’t realize fish can sit right next to you and you’d never know.

Awesome video, I've landed a few very nice trout the past couple weeks and also seen some bigs being fought on fly boats. That light drag is very crucial when landing the big ones.

I’m a walk and wade guide one one of these rivers and I can vouch for the amount of times people don’t listen and plunge right into the river to feel like their fishing.

Met a guy out in Idaho last week who we talked to about Euro Nymphing - told us that you can’t catch fish 10 feet from you. We literally caught more fish than we could count that same day.

Thanks for the cool video. Yeah, should never not consider close to shore fishing. I caught a nice rainbow last week in a foot of water and maybe 2 feet off the shore. It was grubbing in the rocks for crayfish and took a Ritt’s Craw literally at my feet!

That sounds awesome, what a great catch!

most of my fishing in wadable streams is done by accessing a bad area and walking up the middle to the fishy areas, then casting to the banks. I got an 18" brown doing that just last week in a heavily pressured stream that hasn't been stocked since sometime last year. Most bait fishers just look for the deep water, cover or not. That's fine for the fresh stockies, but they think the water is fished out after a week when they stop catching, when the reality is that the fish moved to where they actually belong... COVER.

Great video! Question, what size nymph jig did you fish at point and dropper end?

Love your videos! If you watch Devin Olsen’s recent video you will stop losing fish at the end. Low upstream pressure 🤷🏼‍♂️

How much of a stealthy approach are you using? Hiding your profile, etc. I’m mostly a small stream/creek guy and get far to frustrated on larger rivers that are more pressured. I take a very quite approach to creeks but big rivers not so much. And I think that plays a huge roll in my lack of success, any tips?

When the water is big and has some riffle on the surface you'd be surprised how close you can get to big fish. They aren't spooky like small stream fish. You can get right on top of them like in the vid.

Any tips on dealing with the ticks out there? I stopped by last weekend just wading the shore and got covered in ticks.

Joe, is that a tennis elbow brace? Did you do that number while fishing?

If it’s a brace, what kind is it? Fishing elbow is not fun and a bit painful.

    problem with hooks?

Good question but I don't believe so, that type of tight line nymphing on a 10' 2 weight will show you what you've been missing. Most of those strikes wouldn't even register on most indicators.

Seriously why do they all come off before landing? Too light of rod?
