Great video, Cremant is THE hidden sparkling gem of france (and probably the world not knowing anything besides Champagne). I personally love Cremant the Bourgogne from Cave the Lugny, similar price and somehow similar profile to what you describe. If you are willing to go a few km/miles outside of France into Baden you can also find outstanding "Cremants" named just "Winzersekt" or "Sekt". I had recently two great bottles from Reinecker in Auggen, Champagne quality but at a fraction of the price. Cremants also have a tendency to be quite ageworthy i noticed, many can last quite a couple of years without any problem and even improving. Maybe also look into Cava and its new not DOC cousins, also great Champagne style quality from Spain/Catalunya
Thomas, excellent points. Cremant is a hidden gem, from Bourgogne more than anywhere else. As for Caves de Lugny, good people, love their wines. There’s plenty of very good non Champagne sparklers, it just takes some effort to dig into finding them. Thanks for posting your comment.

For 11 winters in France, these were a favorite category for my bubbly-adoring traveling companion to explore. Definitely- Crémant de Bourgogne is hard to beat! (Even in price, when the lesser champagne makers were clearing their cellars...)

During last holiday season we went through several bottles of the Cattin brut and rose, both available at our local CostCo for $13ish. Absolute steal! Loved it.
Going to have to look for some Cremant from Burgundy… def intrigued.
That’s good to hear. In my view, Cremant de Bourgogne is the best of the lot, definitely worth searching out.

Hi Bob, you just taught me about a category I didn't even know existed! I will definitely try it as soon as I get the chance. I hope they are not too similar to Champagne as I don't like it ( I know some people might think I'm crazy and ignorant) but I find it too bitter for my palate, instead I like Prosecco. Hi Laura, Cremant in its various forms is definitely worth searching out. Based on your comment, Cremant d’Alsace or Cremant d’Loire should be a good fit for you.

Cremants are some of my favorite sparkling wines when I dont want to splurge on a champagne. Enjoy a cava too. I would love to see a video of you 'shopping' for the cremant (or other wines). When you are out at the store, why did you choose one cremant de Loire over another? I would think price cannot always be the determining factor for choosing the bottle. Keep it up, I am a new subscriber and looking forward to other videos. Merry Christmas!

I discovered Cremant maybe 8,9 years ago and have found that it's an incredible alternative to Champagne, both in terms of price and quality. Nearly all of our friends have enjoyed it, a lot of them prefer the demi-sec category, though I prefer Brut or Extra Brut. In terms of quality Bourgogne and Alsace seem to hit the higher notes, with Loire often being interesting. But sometimes missing the mark and being a bit dull.
I find that I crave sparkling wine more as I age as well, and I am with you on using a wider rim glass to enjoy the aromatics, though for family and friends I usually use flutes. As that seems to be what is expected from most people when drinking champagne or sparkling wine.
Besides all the known regions for sparkling wine, Hungary is getting better at it atm; Decanter has featured a few of the standout wineries/producers. Kreinbacher in Somlo and Chateau Dereszla in Tokaji make some fantastic wines, and smaller family wineries in different regions are also doing amazing examples. Cheers!
Hi Solomon, you’re spot on. I’m surprised that Cremant is not better known, as the quality is generally good and the supply is rather plentiful. Bourgogne is definitely the best of the range and the most Champagne like. As for Hungary, a vast range of excellent wines, but with hot or miss availability, at least where I live. I really like sparking chenin. Cremants are a go to…. South African sparkling chenin is fun to have, and I look for unusual Metodo Classico from Italy. I’ve some Nebbiolo in the cellar I’m looking to open. Had some rose sagrantino not to long ago that was delicious.

Can't remember the name nor the producer but I had a great brut Vouvray recently and it knocked off my socks 😅😮. Similar complexity to champagne found some oak too maybe somewhat leaner but excellent at the price point (~30€)

Are Cremants available in the states easily? I never remember any at my grocery store.
In grocery, not much unless you stop in a Trader Joe’s. Any decent specialty wine store will have some.
@@bobpaulinskimasterofwine I guess I should’ve said in Ohio we have full wine stores in the grocery stores if they have a license. Don’t have any state stores.
@@kyliefan7In Ohio, you have to deal with the minimum mark up requirements. Prices tend to be high than many other states.
