    You'll watch an entire Netflix show even when the first episodes are slow and boring just because someone told you "it gets better." *But what if you looked at your goals like that and watched your life get better instead?*

    You are an inspiration to me. I myself am an aspiring orthopedic surgeon, fellow athlete, and motivated student (through your videos) to get better and evolve into the best version of myself possible. Thank you for these awesome videos and hopefully one day I will bump into you at a research conference, or in some cool way!

    Orthopedic surgeons r truly fascinating. Ive had my fair share of just awful knees. I was born with lax ligaments and caused my knees to dislocate. I had to get two mpfl reconstructions and my surgeon was amazing. I was 14 when I had the first surgery and the surgeon wasn’t in pediatrics but tried so hard to crack jokes and make me laugh to make me feel as comfortable as possible with him. Im now 19 and had to see that doc the other day again. He was over the moon to see me again and was shocked how grown up I am lol. He is truly the sweetest guy I have ever met.

      I’m sorry to hear about your knees but I’m so happy to hear that your surgeon has been incredible for you! A personable surgeon can make a huge difference.

    Hey JR 👋 I was recently accepted to Mayo and am super excited. Your vlogs are such a great glimpse into what life will be like! They are really invaluable especially since we were not able to interview in-person and visit the campus. Random question: do the school-issued laptops also double as a writing tablet? I'm trying to decide whether I should buy an iPad or not. Thank you ☺

    • @EvolvingMedic
      @EvolvingMedic  2 года назад +1

      Hey Andrea! CONGRATULATIONS! That is incredible news! Welcome to the Mayo family! The laptops do not double as writing tablets. If you can mustard the finances for an ipad, I would recommend getting one. Though a lot of students make due with just the laptop!

    QUESTION: After an exam do you suspend those Anki cards or do you keep them and add on? I keep them and add on but all my classmates are saying I'm crazy. I know its subjective but

    • @EvolvingMedic

      I also keep them and add on. It’ll pay off for step 1. I’ll probably suspend all of them after that test though lol

      @@EvolvingMedic QUESTION: Do you use Anki for ~100% of your studying and then integrate Qs? I did really well using Anki on my last exam but on this exam I'm spending more time with lecture nots and not so much Anki, I do all my cards for the day but haven't used Anki as my sole resource. How do you approach the week leading up to an exam? THANK YOU in advance

    • @EvolvingMedic
      @EvolvingMedic  2 года назад +2

      @@SoloJedi_ I do use Anki as essentially my sole study tool. I try and get all the cards unlocked for a given block a few days before the exam and then I spend those few days doing practice questions (either UWorld or AMBOSS since our exams are mostly NBME). I still do my reviews everyday though. I hope this helps!

    When you say you've finished 600 anki cards? Does that mean you mastered them all 600 terms/concepts in ONE DAY? I'm a premed student so I know absolutely nothing about anki lol!

    • @EvolvingMedic
      @EvolvingMedic  2 года назад +1

      It basically means I’ve gotten through that many flash cards. It’s like having a deck of flash cards and once you get the answer right you put it in a pile to go through on another day. If you get the answer wrong you have to put it at the bottom of the deck you’re going through today and do it again. Getting 600 done just means I’ve gotten them right and have moved those cards to a pile in the future essentially
