I was so confused by “my sister said I could pick HER family’s Halloween costumes”. Like don’t you mean our family’s. Lol forgot that our siblings grow up and have families of their own.
Her immediate family people usually differentiate. Siblings included once they are grown and have their own families.
Her family usually means her partner and children. Like my son says, "we all have our little families and when you add them all together you get our big family."
