Thank you for sharing this. What is true for Greenland is true for Europe as well. The date for Christmas originated as a holiday celebrating the birth of the sun at the winter solstice. The Christian church borrowed the date from the pagans in Europe (originally Christmas landed on the winter solstice but now it is only close to that event on the calendar) and a great many of the things that were used in solstice celebrations have come to Christmas. They have no idea on what day of the year Christ was born, but it wasn't in the dead of winter. So, like with the Greenlanders, before Christianity, there was the solstice and a myriad of celebrations in all the northern lands. Our histories overlap as we reach back in time. It is truly wise to remember that. Thank you for doing so!
True! The church just changed the celebration from the birth of the "sun" to the birth of the "son." Most rituals involved in the Christmas celebration like the Yule log, Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and Christmas lights originally came from pagan origin, not from early Christians. For the video and to the storyteller, I enjoyed listening to your beautiful language. I'll be showing this video to my classes when we talk about the effects of climate change. Thank you for sharing!
I really appreciate this storytelling of our old customs, beliefs and world view, thank you a lot!
It is a very beautiful time of the year for Greenland and other northern countries. Thank you for this video 😊❤️
