the big names don't really equate to good football. Brazilian and Argentine clubs have many times beaten the Champions League champions in the intercontinental cup, with no superstars while the europeans were all stars. one example is Boca beating Real Madrid, Milan, etc.
what matters is the football culture in the country and the club. that's why the sand league is irrelevant, it's just a pile of money burning away, but no actual passion for their clubs or football.
the US has a growing fanbase for football and the football culture is becoming more present each year.
